Gretsch was out of business for many years. So they didn't drop him he moved on to Gibson who made special guitars for him. Thew Guitars Gretsch made for Chet wqere exceptionsl > one reason they went out of business was their quality control was poor. Their workers were paid by the piece so they shipped out everything they could. The new Gretsch's are made in Japan and are much better and more consistint guitars then the vintage Gretsch's A good old Gretsch is a great guitar but hard to find
@roymack1 I am a big Gretsch fan, but I didnt know they dropped Atkins. If that was the case, its definitely sour grapes! Gretsch is a premiere guitar maker, and their guitars are phenomenal instruments. No question its sour grapes!
man james burtons solo is so good its like he accuratetly notated it before but you just know its just random bits of brilliance i especially like the lick that starts at 1:26
This guy James Burton is one of the most famous guitarist's in the world playing with people like Elvis , Ricky Nelson and Roy Orbison to name a few also Albert Lee who Is a legend as well i have had the privelage to meet these two men a few times and they are gents in there own right ..
I have been playing guitar for years and years... these guys make it look effortless... wow, 3 of the greatest on stage at one time... just flipping amazing. I wish I could play half as good as any of 'em.... time to practice
The guitars arent a Gretsch, and a Strat. James Burton is playing a Telecaster, but Chet Atkins, while known for his almost exclusive use of various Gretsch models, is playing a Gibson, and Albert Lee is playing his signature Ernie Ball Music Man model.
@sdonovan1994 As you may well know Gretsch "sponsored" Chet for many years, supplying him with guitars (free). After they "dropped" him he was quoted as saying that he would never pay for a Gretsh as they were crap! Was it the truth or sour grapes?
The billion dollar trio here. And I love the distinct sounds from the Gretch, Tele, and Strat...all iconic in their own way and all in the hands of guys who mastered them. Except for Alberts lead cord falling out this was pure bliss.
They are supposed to have a James Burton tribute in Shreveport, every year, but they put it off this year. (The year that I was living in Ashtown -- 20 miles south of Shrfeport!!
James Burton started playing with Ricky Nelson in the 50s. He was one of the first few who used a Telecaster back then, and on "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet" show. He is known for his "chicken pickin" :) You can Wikipedia him for more info.
Hwere have I been, I haven't heard of Jams Burton but if he's playing with these two then he must be preety bloody good, Can someone give me some information on him please? Gary
Its at the Opryland Hotel. I stayed there in the early 90s. They are playing in one of the indoor gardens. When I was there Loyd the harp player performed. Boy the people just lined the walkways lol. Gave me a nasty look when he asked me if I wanted his autograph and I said no. Liberace playing heartbreak hotel on a harp isnt something you see much of.
Are they playing in a mall or what? Wow. I'd have paid a couple hundred to see these three play. Imagine being one of those people walking past behind them and realizing who was playing. Thank for posting. What a treat.

Really musical playing by all three, each bringing his own style to the collaboration.
