This fantastic moment of happiness has been the first million seller guitar record ever registered and there is only one Duane Eddy, i had the chance to see him play at the Show Mart in Montreal in 1963, with Chubby Checker and i will never forget this show on witch Jenny Rock and Pierre Lalonde where in the biginning of their great career, i think that they had good examples of professionnalism with those 2 greats artist, Bravo!!
@themoshmenace - the title of the track is a play on the expression 'rabble-rouser', which in the dictionary is hyphenated. The apostrophe is probably because of the etymology of the term, which means someone who stirs up (or arouses) people's passions. And why does the damn grammar of the title matter - it's an incredible record and that's enough, isn't it?
Although Duane Eddy was based in the western U.S., he recorded for the Philadelphia-based Jamie label. And fittingly, this song was used in the 2011 Philadelphia Mummers Parade.
How sad it is that i have to play a game to find this awesome song ... at least video games are kinda the only way to introduce us such gems ... through the music and through the game itself (mafia II) i kinda appreciate and like the fiftys ..
I came here to listen to see if this piece was on youtube and to listen to it. I graduated from Liberty-Eylau in Texarkana, TX in 1976. Wow! This is the school fight song.
I think I heard Lee Hazelwood say that for the recording, the amp and/or mike were placed in an empty water tank adjacent to the studio. For touring purposes, Duane had a special amp and pickups built that could reproduce the sounds. The guys in the backgrounds were the Sharps, AKA the Rivingtons, of "Papa-oom-mow-mow" fame.
I've heard this song a million times and still can't make out what that guy's yelling in the background during the sax solos. There's one part where he sounds like he's saying, "Holy mackerel!"
This is my school's fight song. The Liberty-Eylau (Eylau) school district was founded in 1955. The kids freaked out whne I told them that our fight song was a popular tune in1955.
OMG!! this was the 1st song i learned to dance to!( ok, i was 3 or 4 and my dance moves consited of walking around in a circle, but what a great f***ing song!!

I don't know much of his music but I sur elove his "twangy" guitar and the clappity hands.
There seems to be voices half way thru the song but I can't make out what they are saying
heatblizzard 1 year ago
@heatblizzard
During the sax parts there are shout-outs like in Gospel singing.
At other times the voices are just making sounds mimicking the instruments i.s. "naaa na haaa"
