@meatswap Depends on the style of 80's synth, but yeah - this is pretty good for the New Order style.
I'm one of those neo-synth revivalist types... who's dabbles in everything from pads to trancey supersaws, acid riffs and those 16th note basslines. Hehe. But sometimes there's nothing like a good old fashioned mopey synthpop song.
Little known fact: Fallout Boy stole lyrics from Wes (when he was in American Nightmare/GUTG) and those douches from FOB had to pay him a bunch of money to keep it under wraps...now Wes gets to travel playing whatever shows he wants around the country, the ultimate dream for an artist of his caliber...
so much bullshit comments going on the front side of this page, nonetheless ive loved everything from wes, support it, all projects come from him, whether as phases or not in his life.
I think its cool that the guy went solo and played the kind of music he could. He only has one hand, its hard to furiously play guitar in that condition. I also welcome the return of darkwave.
never liked his lyrics, and i guess i can expect everyone to hate me for that, but i can't help it. this is catchy, sort of. but it's also sad that he's doing this now, compared to the amazing things he did for hardcore in american nightmare. he was an AMAZING vocalist.
@jemelend hahah they did it 4 the lulz man. because how else are people going to know that you were influenced by the new wave unless you EXPLICITLY FUCKING RIP OFF THE NEW WAVE?
@andstric23 not really at all. the drum beat is completely different. The vocals/melody/lyrics are different. There's no bass guitar. I even know what you're on about.
@JKNovoa This is the 2nd Cold Cave song that is like this (Our Tears Help The Flowers Grow being the other), they're ripping that song off hard. Still like the band though.
Wes Eisold is a genius, but Cold Cave is not my kind of music at all. I bet most people don't even know that Wes was an amazing hardcore vocalist for American Nightmare/ Give Up the Ghost, which is really a shame. To me, his talents were much better utilized when he was in AN.
@thajamison i was an AN/GUTG fan since ever, and i can't agree with you, hardcore will not last forever, in our lives and in the world, there's nothing wrong following different paths.
if a kid start a hardcore band i'll be glad, if a kid leave hardcore scene for something else i can't be mad at all so i'll be glad.
@thajamison the thing is, even when during the AN days all Wes really listened to as home was Joy Divison, so it makes sense. plus eventually you stop having things to be so angry about, i am almost thirty, wes is thirty now, we have old balls(lady balls in my case) i don't know about the genius thing, though he is a sweet guy when he wants to be.
@thajamison lol @ trying to show some sort of musical superiority with the whole "i bet you didnt know so and so used to be in so and so" shit. dom from cold cave is also known as prurient and runs hospital productions (a noise, black metal, etc, record label and physical store), but i bet you didnt know that. who gives a fuck.
@jacobgoldbergsongs Not to mention that: a) American Nightmare/GUTG, while a good/decent band, were the most overrated HC phenomenom since Earth Crisis. b) Cold Cave could only be considered anything other than "GOOD" by somebody totally unfamiliar with this style of music. Not really "genius" material.
i think any cultured musician or lover of music, would agree that this band is both unique and amazing. somebody in the band appreciates House techno. i would love to see a list of theyre influences. probably...
This song is lovely. i don't care if its a soundalike. what isnt these days? I know cold cave sound like new order, you know cold cave sound like joy division. Well done. Cold cave makes me smile. I like that...

oh don't pretend that sounding like a joy division/new order hybrid is a bad thing. saying that someone has a voice like ian curtis must be the highest of compliments.
@lampshade796 stupid bs aside. cage was actually featured on wes' other band xo skeletons 'bored by heaven' on the track 'lascivious'. track is pretty odd. look that up instead of comparing what the two look like like a little girl.
i don't think there's anything wrong with being influenced by JD/NO. Even if it is extremely close to a certain song, at least people can tell that it is. maybe it'll get a new generation interested in the original bands! hell, i'm 15, and a huge fan of both the original bands and their modern counterparts.
they're not influenced, they're practically copying new order..first strophe of this song you can sing "a thought that never changes remains a stupid lie, it's never been quite the same" which is new order's song Your Silent Face first strophe. also the music reminds me A LOT of The Village by NO. I dont know..I like cold cave but this is so evident.

@ChrisThrough I agree. I mean i dig this but if you told me 10 years ago the guy who wrote am/pm and hearts was in this band i would have laughed in your face
