Lol everyone lay off him on the whole refueling his excavator. He knows what hes doing I'm willing to bet and I also bet that the dieself truck came by later. Yea he's low on fuel... so what? And dont give me the "hes gonna let the pump and injectors run dry" crap.
nicely explained. Good video here talking about setting yourself up right. Thats one hell of an excavator. But you need big balls to move that wet clay, ouch thats heavy stuff.
When you get that bucket swinging it sure doesn't want to stop quickly that's for sure.
It starts swinging almost instantly but there is so much weight it keeps swinging for a while after you stop with the joystick. Even empty it still "free swings" a fair bit.
Best way to figure out what I mean is to try this. Fill your bucket up completely on a smaller machine and then stick out all the way. Now swing hard one way and let go of the stick. The 385 is like that empty!
It most certainly is a ME setup. It's got the "mass" boom and the 2.9m "quarry" stick. I thought for certain it was the 3.4m "mass" version for the longest time and then finally measured.
Is there anything in particular you'd like to see? Or just sticking dirt in the back of trucks as usual? I have a walkaround video I still have to post sometime, so look for that soon.
@vantagetes well thats a production machine... if its not doing production then you lose fast... trust me i am laying pipe with one now... dont know if they rent this one but ours costs 35,000 a month
@ford2002boy1 While production is key, there will always be days on any site where the biggest machine there has to dog it a bit to let other stages of the jobsite progress so you can continue on with your bulking. No this machine is not rented. When you have permanent work for a machine this size renting becomes rather useless.
if i could add anything to that all i could say is no 2 jobs are ever the same so as an operator we are constantly adapting to whatever job conditions we have.
5 months, plus a year and a half working on the woods (forestry, so alot of boom work and tight quarters). Then a bit of luck. I've played video games since I was little so the hand eye coordination is there. And I seem to be a bit gifted when it comes to operating things. I started off with this company on a 330 and they moved a 375 in after a week but no one wanted to run it. I told them I'll take it! Ran that for a year and a bit putting my time in and they gave me the 385 a year or so ago.
(1/2)For the most part I have free reign on how things are done. My foreman may have me do a certain section first due to a deadline, having to have other machines come in that area or needing a certain type of dirt in the fill.
It all comes down to whats the easiest way and the fastest. Earth moving is all about production. You always want to get the trucks down lower than you as soon as possible so by benching you can acheive that.
(2/2)The other advantage to benching which I mentioned is when you come back to cut your slope you already have grade top and bottom and you know exactly where the toe is.
If you sat at the bottom and pulled the slope down to you, you have to swing 180* to load the truck (way slower) and you will always be pulling the dirt into your tracks and hitting the pile you pull down with your counterweight. Plus excavators dig up not down ;)
I'll make a how to video on loading trucks fast sometime.
A last note. No two people run a machine the same way. As long as you get the job done in a timely manner and dont abuse anything there is no right or wrong way. Do what is easiest for you, and then work on finding ways to make it faster. I find watching other people work I pick up on little tricks all the time! I spend most of my free time trying to figure those out. The most important thing is being open to suggestion. I'll always accept advice, it never hurts to try.
So well said. What a change to have somebody who doesn't make out like they know it all and who thinks they're the best at everything! You're so right when you say there's no right and wrong way to do things. It's all about adapting to the situation you're faced with and getting the job done. Nice video ;-)

How many cubic meters can fill in bucket?
So what do you wanna say is that you need to be really careful when swinging it.
Tiiggii 3 years ago
8 cubic yards or 6 cubic meters. Yes you have to be careful swinging because it takes time to stop all of that weight.
vantagetes 3 years ago
That much?! Thats really large bucket.
Perhaps that youre that guy operating on that ld. That last move was really skillful, chasing the truck with loaded bucket lol.
Id like to try that one.
