  • "We're about to get hit by a fuckin' wedge" should be on a t-shirt, way to calmly shit your pants and not orgasm everywhere like Reed Timmer.

  • Comment removed

  • Natural sound is always the way to go. Stay quiet and let mother nature proivde the commentary. Not like Reed Timmer who just won't shut the hell up.

  • @UtahMike41 You mean the guy that says everything is a tornado? Pros video shooters let the story speak for itself.

  • How bad was your car damaged? Great video!

  • @TFZ14 Not too bad. Just dirty with a lot of tumbleweeds stuck under the truck. It did short out the cooling fan relay but other then that, it was fine.

  • "were about to get hit by a fuckin wedge" love it lol

  • @lionsforlyons I was driving north out of Quinter. I did stop before the video started (its in the raw footage) and looked to see if anything was to my west and it was not until the wedge formed and I got out of the way in time.

  • Epic sound on this one too, good work.

  • I saw this tornado, from half a mile away as it went by my house.

  • @Shelbar2015 I drove past your house after the tornado :-)

  • You did everything right. You got us perfect sound. stayed calm, fine work. five stars.

  • Wait, so, can I broadcast this?

  • @PootStip because I own the copyright and you need to pay me to use it.

  • what with you guys do you have a death wish

  • @hamsteradorable No, I backed up came out just fine :-)

  • @hamsteradorable No, just want to get the coolest video ever :-)

  • Fukin wedge!!

  • rolling rolling rolling lol

  • Damn lucky you were on your game that day. That thing maxed-out fast!!!! WOWZERZ

  • Dang, that thing was wobbling all over the place. Looked like you were running parallel to it, then oops...

  • what are the sparks that I see. Is that a tire flat?

  • @jjsaturn93 As I'm driving up? Thats a power line shorting out. Same one that later landed on me.

  • @jjsaturn93 I believed it was sparks too but now I think it is the fog lights that light the water lifted from the ground on the car's way backward.

  • 0:11 the lightning strike in front on me would be freaky enough

  • The monologue in this video makes up for all the stupid yelling typical of so many chase videos. Absolute silence for most of the time, with a simple, "I'm about to get hit by a fucking wedge." CLASSIC!

  • man, that satellite is big for, well, a satellite. reminds me of moore in '99.not a crappy rope, but a nice stovepipe borderline cone

  • was this quinter #1 or #2

  • @AJTwister97 Quinter #1 that day.

  • @bnvn1 Doug, this cell actually dropped a large cone just south of I70 first. Then lifted until north of town & then dropped your elephant trunk & wedge. We saw the cone lift & chose to wait along I70 for another cell to the south. This later storm dropped Quinter 4 & luckily took a left & went between Quinter & Park to the west. My buddy Colt & I filmed this wedge (which I assume everyone names #2 for wedge 2) entirely from I70. I still come back to this vid! Great stuff man.

  • @2200Z The second storm is being called Quinter but is actually closer to Park, KS from what I remember.

We followed the first system as it was dropping stuff south of town then went back up and went north of town and then formed three tornadoes north of town. The first one is the one that causes the power flashes when it hits the power lines. It falls apart then another drops the big pipe and that falls apart then I stop in fear of hail and see the wedge to my west.

  • @AJTwister97 Quinter #1

  • That's want I want to see for my Christmas and birthday presents combined ! Great footage ! Good luck this upcoming season and stay safe !

  • Very nice and unstable tornado. You got balls of steel

  • Dude...you have some stones.

Were you driving on a flat? What were all of the sparks that appeared to be coming from the front driver's side?

  • @TheWartHawg No flat tires. That was not sparks, that was debris flying past the headlights.

  • @bnvn1 Thanks for the response. Sweet. Glad you made it out of that ok.

  • Dude, you've got balls that clank! That is the coolest video I have seen yet. Thanks for posting.

  • @rouschno1 lol

  • It sounds like he has a ground squirrel riding along.

  • @joydivstellar - Moo-Ooo-Ooo-Ooo

  • Yeah and he was calm as well and kept his wits about him.

  • I don't care if this guy made calculated mistakes. This is some of the best tornado footage I've seen. Lucky SOB, though.

  • @ripro83 No luck, all skill lol Ok, I got damn lucky

  • wow, I can't believe yall were so close to that tornado!! If U didnt back , you'd be toast!!

  • @NiteOwl1224 Toast, naa. Meatloaf, Yep. No armor needed, just backed up got in the slip stream of the wind behind a hill and trees.

  • 3:53 - cow

  • i like this video the best of all the ones ive seen...i do alittle bit of chasing myself and admire you reverse driving!!thanks fot posting this

  • Lucky you were looking to your left when that wedge touched down, great video.

  • now this guy was nuts!

  • Did the tornado lift off then come back as a wedge or did it back up and wedge? There was a moment in the footage where it disappeared from frame.

  • @hawkeyesurfer Two Tornadoes. The first fell apart and a new tornado formed and turned into a wedge.

  • Wow, I don't think you realize how close you were to getting killed by what was obviously at least a strong F3, if not a mid level F4 wedge. You were in the wrong position to be chasing it, parallel and to the right, you were by yourself, so you had no one to watch it closely in case it turns........and then you pull over next to the power lines. Any chaser knows supercells and tornadoes like to make right turns. I would've continued backing up, in case it wrapped a satellite around.

  • i hope this dont seem too stupid of a question. did he not see this wedge because he was looking at the smaller one? i didnt get that part.

  • This guy is my freakin' hero. I'm hate to speak ill of other chasers, but I'd take this guy's sparse, understated commentary over Reed Timmer's hysterical ravings any day.

Sorry, Reed. I admire you for being in the right place at the right time so often, but when you start freaking out and screaming, I just wanna' slap you like everybody lined up to smack that lady in the movie "Airplane!"

  • Damn dude nerves of steal.. I would have been freaking out a lil bit more then he was lol awesome video.. Wicked ass storm

  • @MrIndependent06 He did the right thing by not freakin out, it's much easier to escape. When I had the Wakita tornado bearing down on me, I kept my cool. I went a few hundred yards to my north, let the tornado go by, then I went south to escape the hail core that was coming my way. I got hit by three hail stones, but if I had stayed in my escape spot that was to the north of the tornado's path, it would have been a barrage of hail stones clobbering me.

  • Great wedge tornado video footage!

Despite facing a monster of that size with destructive winds and sizable hail (as well as the fact you were alone)... you seemed to keep your cool.

Guess that makes you the 'calm in the storm'.

    Thanks, bnvn1!

  • In the cover of the tornado they should have launched an ICBM from Silo 17 there in Quinter only yards off a surface road there not to far from where your from. At least the people there would have not seen it.

  • @DetroitLove4U What? There is a ICBM silo near that area?

  • this is one of the best tornado footage i hav ever seen

  • Mistake 1: Going out chasing storms by himself. Mistake 2: Placing himself in the damage path of a fast-growing wedge that he could clearly see was about to double back. Mistake 3: Driving along downed powerlines. Tornado or no, tropical storm-force winds are enough to kill when they're whipping around live lines as they were in this video. Needless to say, this dude was extremely lucky. I was just waiting for him to get electrocuted.

  • @AtarahDerek Na, I'm just good :-) If I can survive the food on the road while storm chsaing, I can survive just about anything.

  • @bnvn1 AtarahDerek is so smart he should write an instruction manual for stormchasers.

  • "We're about to get hit by a FUCKING wedge."

  • -=clicks the vuvuzela button=-

THE SIRENS ARE SOUDNING! THE SIRENS ARE SOUNDING!

  • Whoa, look at the power substation light up!!!

  • Absolutely great footage! I wish i could chase with you! Although an experience like that one, i'd be shakin' in my shoes!!!

  • Bravo! Those powerlines...that coulda hurt.

  • I gotta move to Kansas !

  • do you know how lucky you are that thing didn't turn??? good God dude, not so close next time,

  • Thanks for doing what you do. Risking your life for knowledge of these terrible killers.

I am scared to death of these things. I live in Texas and they are common here. Get ALL the info you can WHILE STAYING SAFE....scaredy cats like ME depend on people like YOU to keep us informed. We REALLY appreciate all you do. Cant say thank you ENOUGH. God bless and KEEP YOU SAFE!

  • Good thing is they backed up........any one notice the hail? LOL

  • @ohiosevere That's why I stopped, the hail. I hate hail.

  • you and me and the rest of us XD

  • Impressive footage for sure, this guy had nerves of steal, or he was just stupid! I know a lil' about tornadoes and towards the end there the wind picked up more which i believe was "inflow" a stream of air being sucked into the twister, which could have turned his vehicle over. He probably would have survived, but i think it would have ruinded his day though lol.

  • How wide was it? it sure is taking a long time to pass!

  • @bookworm1960 The other video shows it is at least a mile wide.

  • Bitch, I'd be like, TURN AROUND AND FLOOOORRRRR IT!

  • this is incredible in a super insane scary way! i wouldn't have any idea how i'd be feeling.

  • i can't believe how calm you stayed, that's incredible

  • delicious. i would give my soul to have been there. nature ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

  • @slaveyMe what you would i'd give my house maby but not my soul ARE YOU CRAZY!!!

  • 1:10 - At this time, please return all tray tables to their upright position and fasten your seatbelts. We will now be serving emergency doses of sanity and proceeding to pull a U-turn...?

  • Looks like he got fixated on the little satellite tornado and forgot about the big wedge!

  • What size of twister did this turn out to be?

  • What size of twister did this turn out to be?

  • @jahspromise in the comments it said it was about a mile wide, so probably around an F5.

  • You were totally freaking me out. lol...

  • I'm sorry but while watching the video. It was funny at 2:09 when you made the wedge comment. It kind of came out of left field..lol. But great vid!!!!!!!

  • That 2nd tornado came out of nowhere!

  • I watched this about a year ago and just located it again today. This is one of the best tor. vids out there. One question, did the original tornado just grow larger or was there a 2nd area of rotation which developed along with the original.

  • that tree looks nice..

  • Look at the hailstones flying by the car!

  • This would be awesome

  • this was really freaky .

  • Good video 5/5

  • Wow. It looked like the whole friggin' supercell was at ground level. Had to be one hell of a wall cloud that dropped that monster. 5/5

  • great vid man,5 stars, love how u stay calm, and gotta love those ks tumble weeds

  • at least you did not get hurt because I saw you got too close and then you backed up which was the smart thing to do. Great job on filming this beastly tornado

  • Quinter is my hometown. No it doesn't get hit by a lot of tornadoes but that year was a bad year. I couldn't get ahold of my parents who were at work at the time all this was taking place.

  • It's amazing how fast that tornado just grew into a wedge right in front of him from nothing at all.

  • BACK UP! lol

  • @DakotaB253 All the bad ass footage without the DRAMA of someone else.

  • While this happend, TIV was stuck on the interstate :)

  • @ 4:25 the power lins snap...lol crazy

  • That guy was prob like that one storm chaser, BACK THE F8CK UP

  • Does Quinter get hit with a lot of tornadoes? It seems as I see a lot of tornado videos filmed near the town.

  • @ matteng1997

I think all that footage was of this tornado at different stages.

  • @dragonridley No, that is all un cut raw footage.

  • I was replying to a comment asking if there were a lot of tornadoes in the Quinter area. I was referring to the fact that it was a single, well documented tornado.

  • @dragonridley Ah, yeah that week in May 2008 was insane around there.

  • Jesus christ!

  • was that an f5 tornado

  • ef4 i think

  • This guy's like Duke Nukem - he's got balls of steel!

  • @greenmetal1 LOL

  • It is amazing how big the tornado got so fast!

  • Perfect video for showing how quick a tornado can wedge out. Shows exactly why people need to give the tornado a chance to grow before drawing in so close. You can have a tornado pass safely in front of you, but if it grows into a monster wedge, it can have you for lunch even though it's going away from you. This is where you will hear accounts of tornadoes that turned a 180 and came back and hit someone. Most cases the tornado didn't do a 180, It just grew so fast that it appears to do a 180.

  • This guy did the right thing though, he backed up and didn't get into a screaming panic like I see in some videos. He didn't get at a rediculous speed that could have put him in a ditch on this road. Nice job backing up calmly and staying focused on the escape from this beast of a tornado. I give this vid 5 stars.

  • @Torn80cj Thanks. That first one suckered me into following it and when the big hail started falling I stopped thinking I did not want to get into a baseball hail storm. Thats when I looked out the drivers side window and thought "I'm Dead" and just started to back up plant myself next to the small hill to deflect some of the winds. It worked and I did not break one window.

The only thing that did break was my radiator fan motor relay that got wet.

  • the moment when the power lines hit the car must've been scary, though. You just got out of the way of a huge tornado only to get hit by live wires.

  • Awesome video! Glad you're okay!

  • I was thinking when he was backing up the suv, what is he doing? Why is the camera pointing to the left and not following that tornado? Then suddenly after speeding up "we're about to be hit by a f**kin wedge" I laughed my head off! Omg how awesome!

  • almost as good as your NKOTB vid

  • that looked like it went on forever. How wide was that thing?

  • Ok, I just finished watching this video. Nobody was hit by a wedge tornado, the tornado was ahead of them .

  • Yeah, a mile wide tornado with debris hitting the truck that was just 100 yards in front of the truck. guess you did not see the powerlines slamming into the truck.

  • What the hell are you talking about? Thats the time code of the video your watching. Dude your an idiot.

  • AWESOME VIDEO!

  • Man! you got the biggest balls to do this! you have to get your life insurance papers done just in case you depart for eternity..I thought that wedge would never end! I had to change my crapped underware and I'm only home watching it! Damn!

  • power lines almost hit the car

  • No, they hit the roof of the truck and bounced off.

  • amazing!

    love the tumbleweeds!

  • I would have been shitting myself when the pole with the wires came down with what looked like the wires resting on your roof, scarier than the tornado. I allways smack myself when realize after a chase I was filming under those while outside of the car

  • VOTE: Who's got bigger balls, 1. Storm Chasers or 2. Bering Sea Crab Fisherman?

  • I think they both do... massive... but I have seen stories and heard accounts of the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen.... I couldn't do it... Storm chasing oh hell yeah! As long as I was with someone with more experience that I, and since I have zero it shouldn't be too hard. I've been in a tornado but not chased one...

  • I too have been close to a tornado and like an idiot, I had to see it even closer. It's very intimidating seeing something so violent and not knowing where it's heading and the "Freight-train" or "roller-coaster" sound it makes is accurate. Although I'm curious to test my own fears on the Bering sea, I've been in the N. Atlantic in about 30-45 footers which was heartpounding. But constant rougue waves is freakin scary.

  • crab fisherman , there's a death rate in that line of work.

  • WICKED!! I'd love to see that up close, and I wish I knew why the fear of death was so exciting?

  • WOW! That was close. Bet you had to change your underware after that! "we're about to get hit by a fuckin wedge" lol

Not laughing at you- laughing at what you said and how you said it kinda calmly for about to possibly get killed

  • That was a big ass tornado!!!

  • Wow! Great video -- what I would give to have been there!!! Scary as hell.

  • What were alkl the sparks coming from the front of the vehicle when going in reverse????

  • It's not sparks.. it's rain right in front of the lights..

  • i cant see nothing on the screen

  • that was a decent intersept for the tiv or TVN's SRV but for shooting video its just too close there was nothing to see!

  • better then reed timmer screaming like a retard while 2 miles away from the fucking thing

  • Nice video, if a little bit reckless. IMHO a sign of true professionalism and skill is getting close enough for the money-shot, WITHOUT putting yourself in harm's way.... but whatever. It's a great video.

  • When I saw the crooked telephone pole I was like oh shit but than you start to see it at 3:58 and it just couldn't stay up any longer, it fell.

  • this is a good one, it shows you how you have to be professional any tornado including a wedge monster like this one

  • wow!! --I love this part 2:10 nice kick off intro.I remember chasing that day it was hard not to get hit.A high risk day--wild!**

  • This the perfect situation for those adult diapers developed by NASA.

  • uhhh... tuvo suerte... de que no llegara a tocar el tornado...

  • Great video. You're a lucky individual. That wedge came out of nowhere.

  • It's a Jeep GCL

  • What car u have?

  • You have balls of steel dude, awesome video

  • the only thing i wish this video had was about another 3 minutes driving back up where it crossed and assessing the damage first-hand. great footage!

  • I'll be posting that on my site later this month.

  • This huge tornado was rated EF2. The one that crossed I-70 about 2 hours later was an EF4.

  • Comment removed

  • Great video. But between the power lines coming down on the car and almost getting hit by the tornado itself, this guy should have a "supidity clause" in his life insurance policy. Haha

  • Um, Yeah. I shot the video...

  • Haha. I'm messing with you. I think thunderstorms and tornadoes are fascinating. Terrifying. But fascinating. Ever chase tornadoes at night? That would definitely be an adrenaline rush not knowing where the tornado was until lightning flashed.

  • Yeah chased lots of them at night. The danger is dealing with all the other people on the roads not having a clue what is happening when I have a radar feed to show me where the storm is located.

  • Yeah! A stupidity clause and a change of underwear!

  • I am not that stupid to drive right next to the tornado. You have to use wise judgement when chasing or you will become a statistic, a dead one. Nice video though, thanks for sharing it...

  • sweet vid, Doug.

  • One of these days, one of these guys are going to miscalculate and get too close. Then we'll see the funnel sweep over the car, hear the guy scream his head off, and the camera record the car being thrown 200 yards through the air.

When that happens, I bet that gets 5 stars on YouTube.
