A goalie I teach privately was getting beat badly on breakaways two weeks ago because she was losing speed just like the overrated Luongo. Her father called me and we let 10 skaters (boys AAA) come in on her. Eight scored becuz she lost momentum and started to late. When we worked on retreat speed and timing for twenty minutes she gave up only one on 10 more shots.
P.S. Showing "how not to" is learning. Why do you think there is video coaching!!!

I like Lou, don't love him, but you're 100% right that he's pretty bad at breakaways. He doesn't do that butt thing completely intentionally, but it is a terrible habit he hasn't gotten rid of. What I saw honestly was luongo was loading up on his left foot getting ready to push across and then the player cuts back at the last second which catches lu off guard and makes him fall on his ass. It looks as if the deke or fake made Luongo commit to his right-side, you can see where his right-pad falls first as if he was going to slide. I see him falling back as an emergency thing, in hopes of using his arm/glove to stop a low shot. You're just hilarious, Luongo has had problems with Chicago for years, he's nervous against them in the playoffs, last year they got on his nerves by plowing snow into his face and diving into him every time. By the way Schneider doesn't just happen to be on a team with good defense, he was AHL's goalie of the year last year on a mediocre Manitoba Moose.

They have both never had an sv% under 90 (except Brodeur's debut season playing 4games). Maybe you should teach your students how Brodeur and Luongo plays instead telling them that they aren't good.Because they made it to the NHL elite, and you didn't. Luongo and Brodeur are 2 of NHLs best and most respected goalies, they can steal games on their own.
You don't even get my point. Brodeur and Luongo have had at least 91% save percentage EVERY season. For an example how many times have Lalime had an 91% percentage? 2TIMES! And mind if i tell you their NHL total save percentage?... Lalime with .904 being second goalie in his half career. Against Luongo's .919, and Brodeur's .914! Big difference! Also have you ever hear Ovechkin saying that Lalime is a tough goalie to beat? Do you know Ovechkin's bad stats against luongo?

Luongo isn't a coach, he's a professional goaltender. His job is to keep the puck out of the net, not teach people how to. It doesn't matter how unorthodox the style, all the matters is his stats. Remember how crazy Hasek looked? That guy did anything it took to block a shot.
Before DiPietro, Luongo was the highest drafted goalie in NHL history. Not only that, but the man's stats are no lie. Since 2000 his GAA has been below 2.98 and his save pct has been above .915
Oh and come on, lets see you come out to the free agent camp. Normally goalies are invites only but I can pull some strings to get you on the ice. When I played there in '07 I got to know Jon Hillebrandt, the goaltending coach, really well. He's a great man and an excellent coach.

breakaway and shootout is the hardest thing for goaltenders to face, you see him move one direciton but adapt by noving in the other direction with his upper body, what is wrong with that? my boyfriend was a goaltender for 26 years in sweden and russia, he never was a top goalie and can't do half the things luongo can, but even he says luongo is one of the best and thinks you're funny calling luongo and brodeur the two worst. you're a retard, best of luck.

With your logic, every player in the NHL stinks if he isn't perfect. I guess Ovechkin is awful if he were to say, miss a breakaway. But you don't see any ridiculous videos saying, "Boys and girls, uh, when your on a breakway, the first thing you do is shoot it into his chest. Yea, that's how you do it! That's how you score!"

@blue12999 And this is the problem! These are not simple "MISTAKES". I have hundreds of vids of Luongo playing the breakaway incorrectly so it's a TECHNICAL ERROR, not a MISTAKE. a SIMPLE ADJUSTMENT TO his TECHNIQUE, or for kids watching, then he is a BETTER GOALIE.
That's all! luongo is human! Luongo is "not perfect" as you say and I say as well!

And I agree that goalies do have to rely on their team more than any other position, because I've practiced and done a 5 on 0 and they are almost impossible to stop. I'm just saying the Luongo (Lebrongo) is not the god of hockey. Nobody is perfect and I'm not saying that Thomas is the god of hockey because he has let in bad goals and had his share of bad games before.

Yes that's because Brodeur is a living legend with most shutouts,most career wins and alot more records. And Luongo just won olympic gold. They have both never had an sv% under 90 (except Brodeur's debut season playing 4games). Maybe you should teach your students how Brodeur and Luongo plays instead telling them that they aren't good.Because they made it to the NHL elite, and you didn't. Luongo and Brodeur are 2 of NHLs best and most respected goalies, they can steal games on their own.

You don't even get my point. Brodeur and Luongo have had at least 91% save percentage EVERY season. For an example how many times have Lalime had an 91% percentage? 2TIMES! And mind if i tell you their NHL total save percentage?... Lalime with .904 being second goalie in his half career. Against Luongo's .919, and Brodeur's .914! Big difference! Also have you ever hear Ovechkin saying that Lalime is a tough goalie to beat? Do you know Ovechkin's bad stats against luongo?

He was one of the best in the top of his career but you can't compare them when Cechmanek isn't even near playing as many games as Luongo do, and not as many seasons as Luongo has played. Cechmanek's game average per NHL season is 53. Luongo's is 60 playing more than twice Cechmanek's NHL seasons.

How does that mean anything when he has a great save percentage. You're a guy less and you shouldn't blame a goalie letting in goals in PK when they have to work more than anybody else. Maybe New Jersey have a too passive PK system too, i don't know. He has lots of Vezina's so i can't see what he does wrong.
I think Canada is a nice place too, very passionated hockey-fans also. It's a shame there is so few Canadian NHL teams.

Luongo isn't a coach, he's a professional goaltender. His job is to keep the puck out of the net, not teach people how to. It doesn't matter how unorthodox the style, all the matters is his stats. Remember how crazy Hasek looked? That guy did anything it took to block a shot.
Before DiPietro, Luongo was the highest drafted goalie in NHL history. Not only that, but the man's stats are no lie. Since 2000 his GAA has been below 2.98 and his save pct has been above .915

It is without a doubt that the 60 goalies in the NHL are the BEST and it is IMPOSSIBLE that there are poor scouts, career ending injuries, financial burdens, family burdens, physical abuse mental abuse, coaches playing there own son who is a goalie more, parents SPONSORING the team to get extra playing time, that may have OUTED better goalies tahn there are now in the NHL?

Actually I was injured in a freak bicycle accident that ended my career as a goalie so now I teach just like Francois Allaire! He never played in the NHL but he is considered the most knowledgeable goalie instructor in the world!!!
