  • was stevie gay?

  • on 0:26 up top it show a little bit of the microphone lml

  • I always liked Dick Cavett. This was just his style. I wish more talkshow hosts did things the way he did. It was always fun to watch and he created witty banter with his guests. Real class.

  • -People don't call you Little Stevie Wonder anymore

-I have a few people call me that, and I knock them upside the head

    LOL awesome

  • dick cavett gets most of his momentum with eye contact.. this one looks like he's talkin to someone on a speaker phone. glad to see it. thnx for posting

  • Cool interview ...not crappy!

  • Dick Cavett was such a great interviewer. He always knew how to set his interviewee at ease. Check out his interview with Hendrix on here.

  • I want that outfit, It looks like it could still by stylish even today

  • I wish I went to school In the 70's, Music wasn't crappy Rap back then, it was REAL music. And when Stevie wonder dies, I think I will be Eternally Depressed.

  • @BionicChronicle Rap is poetry depending on what era your talking it was rebel music that no one understood and they took it's essence for granted if anything the 90s was the last best era for music talents and legends todays music is horrible I do agree

  • stevie's charming. the interviewer seems a little slow. either trying to make a joke out of that "together" line or genuinely not knowing what it means. noticed that in several of his other interviews as well. john houston had to explain to him what "pinning" someone means although the context readily provided the meaning.

  • he was too dumb to interview stevie!

  • Cavett never gets into the meat of the point with any of his guests...

  • the dude is lame not worthy of stevie s presence

  • im no interview connoisseur but i didnt find anything crappy about this, stevie was his enigmatic "out their" at times self, and the interviewer handled it well, very funny at times....

  • people don't understand that at the time, this man was actually the first to openly talk to the people he interviewed, he treated them as humans, not gloating over their celebrity, teasing and joking and sharp as a knife, he could banter with the very best of any of them, he also showed his honestheartfelt enjoyment of being allowed to be so perosnal.other stages offered casual appearances for such artists, but never on the level of intimacy that always was the case when visiting with Mr. Cavett

  • "I hadn't heard that it was not together." LMAOOOOO.....

  • I thought the interviewer had really funny dry humour. The pauses added to it to me. He should b on the British show extras

  • @AnjelicasBaby you gotta remember man this was 40 years ago!!! The humor back than was so different

  • "Well I nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, nevah, know." This was funny.

  • 3:00 ok 3:42 hmmm .-)

  • What's up with Stevie Wonder wanting to knock everyone upside the head?...I think he's on crack...

  • He reminds me of conan Obrien.. cavett that is

  • Stevie.. he's such a cool young black dude. And that outfit.. man, it's so stylish. I'd wear that today if I could get my hands on it.

  • his so funny i love dick cavett we need more of him

  • I don't know why people are defending this guy. To me, this entire interview seemed awkward and uncomfortable.

  • cavett, class. wonder, class

  • Dick Cavett haters are ignorant. He was the first Charlie Rose. Stars liked him. He put them at ease, therefor they opened up to them. I am truly thankful to have the Cavett stuff on Youtube. Thanks for posting this even thought your title is lousy.

  • 9 times out of 10, when this 32 year old watches some old interview with some great musician or public figure the host is none other than the great Dick Cavett. Don't like it kid???? Go watch Tom Green or something before I put my bum on your lips............... ..................................................bitch!

  • Dick Cavett is the MAN. He's funny, chill, and had great interviewees.

  • What's up with the boom operator on this show? Every one of these I've seen has the friggin microphone drooping into frame. Epic guests... two-bit production.

  • 1st gay rapper on youtube

  • Dick Cavett probably had the most interesting guests of any host...opting for very talented people. Stevie Wonder (nice guy who for some reason acted a little bit dickish to him), Marlon Brando (a dick who acted like a superduperdick to him), Bobby Fischer (a superduperdick for some reason acted like a genuine and nice guy to him).

  • how the hell is this a bad interview?

    and that outfit looks awesome

  • Stevie is the coolest.

  • Th interviewer is a try hard comedian. I hope he quit soon after.

  • @187prettyboy Watch more than one interview before giving your young, moronic opinion. He intervied the best entertainers of all time and was considered one of the best interviewers by the people he intwerviewed. Trying reading a little before typing. Give your generation a tip for me, learn something that isn't thrown in your face by popular culture.

  • @bigsleep32 lol he's a tryhard. Nothing to do with age or generations. I have seen many interviewers older than Cavett who are not try hards. Besides what does age have to do with being a good interviewer.

  • Oh man I want a pair of sunglasses like that. Does anybody know which ones they are?

  • i had my gold records melted down into a toilet

  • was he talking about talking book or songs in the key of life?

  • she plays the tuba lolololol class

  • That is Really shocking that at dat time stevie thought he wasnt a good lyricst. especially when his most popular songs were the ones he wrote solely by himself(As,Overjoyed, DO i Do,and Superstition,You are the sunshine of my life,All in love is fair, Ribbon in the sky,Boogie on a reggae woman, higher ground, dont you worry about a thing, sir Duke,I wish, Masterblaster just to name a few). Wow i guesspractice Makes perfect for real. defining inspirational moment fo me.Luv u stevie.k

  • @fucu41 This interview is from 1970, all the songs you just named had yet to be written. At this time he did co-write most of his songs

  • @TheJseiler -yea i know that. i was saying that with practice and dedication you can get better.LMBO

  • @TheJseiler -lmbo still. u told me that. DUH

  • 2:59 Well you Never never never never never never Nev never never Know, Haha love you stevie

  • he looks like he's about to go server the japanese empire

  • I didn't think Cavett was that 'crappy'. He's cheesey but that's his style.

  • This is hilarious. Very candid. Nice broadcast post.

  • love himmm.. he is so handsome

  • All you people accusing Cavett of being racist checkout the doco about Hendrix on his show. Plus, as for his being uncool, he used to tear strips of himself and never pretended to be anything near as hip as the artists he had on his show, he loved Janis, Jimi and all the guests he had on his show and never put them down for cheap entertainment.

  • Stop hatin! The interview was cool. That was how they did TV back then FYI.

  • you can see stevies eyes under his glasses.

  • dick cavett was genuine, disarming and a little nervous. anyone who sees anything else in there is projecting it upon him.

  • Comment removed

  • Did Stevie say he didn't think Scorpios are nice people??

  • Some one could tell me about Club de fans from Stevie Wonder..,? because I love him... dont speak inglish... i´m from Mèxico... i try write in inglish... sorry XD

please i nedd know fans club Stevie Wonder i want be part the club.....

  • I LOVE U STEVIE !!!!!

  • Stevie's talking voice is sexyyyyy!

  • hmm, ray charles' eyes were always shut tight, but stevie's appear to be wide open here

  • At 1:18. SYREETA!

  • Dick Cavett was an asshole here with Stevie and to his credit as a gentleman Stevie was polite and humorous the whole way through! I have seen plenty of other interviews and he was great with his guests, like Hendrix.

If you want to see Dick put in his place.. watch the Marlon Brando interview where he gets owned!

  • Dick Cavett is a terrible interviewer.

  • Boom mic fail around 1:24.

  • he's always been extremely talented and he was fine.

  • Where was Stevie Wonder from? I know from Michigan, but what country? Africa? what part?

  • @littleelvis1996Stevie is from america and was born there and is african descent same as white americans are of european descent

  • ffd

  • cool

  • Oh wait, its only the beginning of Stevie.

Its amazing, that best for him is yet to come.

  • stevie......know you can't see, but you should've tried knocking the shit out of that guy.......

  • Stevieee sounds really posh here, dont you think ?

  • for all you haters. you clearly don't get dick cavetts sense of humor.

Now go watch dane cook or something

  • I didn't think this was so bad.

  • This was a jacked up interview. Dick Cavett acted like he didn't know what to say to Stevie and the interview was boring. I don't know what that was about, but I hope that Stevie didn't go back on his show again after that.

  • I've never heard Stevie speak before, I like how he's a jokester = )

  • Every interviewer has his sluggish days. Anyone who says that Cavett sucks needs to see his other interviews. He really is a legend in the world of talk shows.

  • the*

  • they only good thing dick cavett has ever done... beetlejuice.

  • Did he have no questions planned or something?

  • It's really weird, I have a feeling Dick isn't even happy to be interviewing him, if he is, he isn't treating Stevie right.

If I met Stevie, I'd be like YOU ARE FANTASTIC, I don't know... I'd be more enthusiastic.

  • it's a sign of the times that nobody is "getting" Dick Cavett's style of interviewing.

    a couple of facts:

he had to fight to have guests on who were considered difficult or dangerous. the word fuck was first heard on a dick cavett show. he was also one of few interviwers to have african americans on and not patronise them.

    so get an education or

go back to audiences that will clap at anything, witless humour, one hundred km an hour news soundbites, and let your mind drip out of your ears.

  • @dancingdiplodocus I agree with you 100% on Dick Cavett. Some boneheads today just don't get it do they? I find this old footage from his shows ultra interesting. He had this great quirky style and a wit that's nowhere to be seen today. He was so much better than Carson and people like Letterman today are nowhere near in the same league.

  • @dancingdiplodocus Fantastic set of curious facts! That's what it's all about, congrats!

  • She plays the tuba LOL

  • well ya neva neva neva neva neva neva neva neva neva neva neva know...

  • stevie wonder is one of the greatest entertainers ever and he is a true genius, and he has gotten through his blindness to do great things. show him some respect Dick. dont be a bloody asshole.

  • He was not so famous as he is now 40 years ago mate.....lets talk about time and perspective here....he was just 20 years old then and not many of his songs were hits back then

  • Is this guy Cavett just thie biggest asshole ever.

You're talking to a genius, have some respect and sit up straight you little fuck.

  • the interviewer is an arse!!! and stevie is just amazing........... 'never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never know' ...... brilliant!

  • Yooo that mic coming in and out of the shot is distracting me...FIRE THAT SON OF A BITCH

  • I never get how they pick out these interviewers I dunno maybe its just me

  • Dick Cavett is "definitely" an ass. lol

A weak interviewer at best. Stevie's unique. What a great artist!

  • No he isn't! Stevie's great, but so is Cavett.

  • I know what's with the hating on Dick Cavett? He's done some really great interviews! He's had on all sorts of amazing people like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and David Bowie. Take it easy on him... he was one of the cool people in the 70's, ask your parents.

  • @WishYouAWishxx

Dick Cavett was a str8 up asshole when he interviewed Jimi Hendrix as well,Cavett tried to imply that people would be upset with Jimi Hendrix about how Jimi played the National Anthem. Stevie Wonder is such a beautiful spirit, that he did'nt let Cavett get into his head. "Ive have'nt heard of any problems in America" what an asswipe Cavett was/is! I could've named a few,Assassinations of Both Kennedys,Malcom X,Dr.King,Lynchings, riots, looting,RACISM,gas shortages, drug use.

  • @mrinnervisionz "I haven't heard of any problems in America" was obviously sarcasm. Cavett had a better sense of humor than you do. Cavett was not a "str8 up asshole." He was always very tolerant and friendly towards his guests, and in many cases was a little in awe of them, but was also a comedian, which called for some good-natured irreverence which unfortunately has been misinterpreted by some viewers these days as rudeness and disrespect.

  • @TheMichaelPeterson Dick Cavett was the model of a lot of middle age, boring,i love america,L-7 Square white men! He was'nt being funny,he was uncomfortable & not even realizing that he was in the presence of the greatest singer/songwriter,producer,arranger,multi-instrumentalist,civil & human rights advocate, humanitarian in all of music! Dick was just being a d.i.c.k. Cavett was an asswipe with Jimi Hendrix also,he was accusitory towards Jimi about playing the fuckin Star Spangled Banner!

  • @mrinnervisionz

take it easy, i guess you´d like to see "L-7 squares" like cavett kneeling down before godlike hendrix -- for what, is he something better for being an artist? they´re grown people, that should be enough to talk straight!

and stevie wonder is just a damn good piano player and songwriter, no person cult please!

  • @MoveOverCasanova Actually i only idolize Stevie Wonder & Rick James, but I love Jimi Hendrix. Stevie Wonder plays much more than piano, he play organ, drums, bass, harp, clavinet, spinet, harspchord, guitar 2 name a few. As far as Stevie being good, he is Godlike, his music is cosmic, nobody in music then, now & in the future will ever be as great as Stevie! Beethoven & Sam Cook are or were close. Cavett was a typical needle-nose,american flag waving white boy! Fuck him & anybody like him!

  • @mrinnervisionz

sure sure black power very interesting

  • @MoveOverCasanova What of it!? I guess you are of that same racist click that Cavett is a part of.

  • @mrinnervisionz

get out of the victims corner -- maybe cavett is no racist, maybe you just have no sense of humor at all, thought about that? or are you a little kid?

  • @MoveOverCasanova I will take that part back,i have no idea if Cavett was a racist,i don't believe he was. I simply mispoke, but everything else i said, I stand by 100%!! Cavett was definately thinking the way that those middle aged & older white men thought,he was very very uncool!

  • whys stevie wonder always smiling lol tell me wat u think the aswer is

  • because hes blind...he dosent know how ugly thee world is....

  • I like his smile :D

  • Dick Cavett is an ass.

Stevie is a way better of a person than he is.

  • well you neva, neva, neva, neva, nevaaaaaa, neva know!

  • Stevie is radiating with such a powerfully positive vibe at this time....and his genius is about to explode over the next couple of years.

  • @RAM71 you mean from then on! Stevie Wonder's songwriting, singing & musicianship as well as his advocacy for civil & human rights was about to begin, & he has not looked back! Stevie Wonder is the greatest singer/songwriter,producer,arranger,multi-instrumentalist,humanitarian,civil & human rights advocate ever! Long live the official UN Messsenger of peace & Goodwill (STEVIE WONDER)

  • is stevie wonder blind?

    i want to know

  • yes, Stevie Wonder is blind!! lol :)

  • yeah he is blind . he has been blind since birth

  • oh

    why was he blind

does he just have bad vision

or he doesn't see nothing at all

  • @mjFan07421 Stevie Wonder became blind because he was a premature baby,in order to save his life the dr. placed him into an incubater & gave him too much oxygen, the oxygen burned his eyes. Also in the early 70s,Stevie was in a horrific car accident that left him in a coma for almost a month, his brained was severely bruised robbing Stevie of his sense of smell for over a year. The Dr, actually told his family & Berry Gordy that Stevie probally was'nt goin to survive.

  • born blind...

  • she plays the tuba lmao

  • "i was trying to check one out the other day" haha i love how he jokes so easily about himself it makes him seem like such a down to earth person

  • i love stevies humor

  • I love Stevie Wonder's suit and he is wonderfully gorgeous!

  • Stevie is so gorgeous! Cavett is so arrogant...

  • Exactly 23 years later to the day. I was born

  • true legend

  • Poor Stevie. Never should have been made to work with this rubbish.

  • how did this fool-get in show biz -and able to talk to such a wonder?!

  • Well you never never never never never never never never never never never know...

  • The interviewer should show more respect to Stevie Wonder.

  • Wow. Stevie was fine

  • I like Stevie's suit. He looks cool.

  • I wonder if he dressed up by himself ;P

Seiously, I like Stevies music very much :)

  • It is an odd study of an interview that can't quite get the wheels on the rails. Cavett leads and drops the ball... the awkwardness then just feeds on itself and you just wish Cavett would stop acting like the token "square".

  • terrible interview...on both parts

  • i'm a 13 year old girl and i love Stevie Wonder. he is great. but i was a little bit disappointed with this interview. Not with Stevie. I'm disappointed with the host person (don't know him i'm young lol) it seems like whenever Stevie answered a question, the host just left him hanging. he deserves more respect than that.

  • dick cavett retard look at the title

  • she might have missed the the title but still... why be a dick?

  • What is wrong with you guys...Cavett is a jealous scorpio tryna be funny but Stevie is hip...He knew how to handle him. The funny part is astrologically the are opposites and don't get along according to the stars. The suit Stevie is wearing I thnk it's cool a fashion statement...got that asian cut on it. Y'all are silly tho. But I still love everyone on here. Peace

  • lol wat the hell kinda suit is tht. lol but i guess he is blind lol. brilliant musician

  • I just like the pace....!!!

  • Back in that day, Cavett was the only TV talk show guy who even had musicians like this on. He was usually better than this, even when the guests were diffident (which Stevie is not)

  • AWKKWARDDDDDDDD

  • God bless Stevie Wonder.

  • he writes wonderful music.

  • "Check his sound out

    He'll tell it all

    Hey

    You talk too much you

    worry me to death

    He's Misstra Know-It-All"

I think that Mr Know it all is Mr Cavett. :-)

  • Cavett is a moron in a suit...stevie wonder was, even at this time, a genius. but I guess he had to humour him.

  • You're a moron without a suit. Now stop bashing Cavett, because he's brilliant.

  • Hmmm...

    Thanks.

  • I guess the new album he's talking about is "Where I'm Coming From". Is that right? I've not heard that one, but based on the great albums he was putting out at that time I'm sure it was good. And just think - the world still had not heard the miracles of "Innervisions" and "Songs in the Key of Life" and "Talking Book". That's amazing.

  • Stevie Wonder is such a charasmatic individual.Just watching his interviews are pretty inspiring

  • great interview Cavett

  • Stevie was sexy!

  • Stevie was fucking with him. He knew this guy isn't serious, so he was having fun with it.

  • Hahaha, Stevie Wonder is really witty.

  • Comment removed

  • famous people hate doing interviews. End of story.

  • It wasn't a "crappy interview". People just don't realize how good the Dick Cavett show really is. Come on, it beats the shit out of damn near everything these days.

  • his interviewing style sucks IMO.

  • Why, if I may ask? OK, it's not the world's most "in depth" interview but the aim is entertainment, not which synth he uses on this song or whatever.

  • I asked if you listened to his music OR followed up on him, not as a way to defend him, but to see if you were in any way familiar with him. My point was that if you were familiar with Stevie you wouldn't make such a dumb comment. If you're talking about just this video, fine, but you then went on babbling about how him being blind means people have to cater to him and all that rubbish. Then calling people "niggers" and crap like that. Yeah, I'm a mongloid though...

  • Have you ever actually listened to his music or followed up on him, or are you just randomly posting comments on Youtube? That's a rhetorical question, by the way, because your comments clearly show that you are just randomly posting ridiculous comments.

  • 1. Your second sentence makes no sense.

    2. No, good music doesn't make a good person, nor does it make someone a bad person.

    3. Can you give any reasons as to why Stevie Wonder is a bad person? Not like one or two examples, because nobody is perfect, but a history showing why he's a bad person?

I look forward to hearing what you come up with...

  • 1 - my 2nd sentence makes perfect sense.

you said you had a clear perception that i was "just randomly posting ridiculous comments"...

the greater the clarity of this perception, the farther you get from the truth. which is to say, the more you believe you are right, the stupider you are.

2 - i never said it did. another reason why you are a fucking idiot.

3 - i don't know him. i'm merely commenting accurately on this video & his identity within this moment.

  • 1. Say what you mean then, don't use rough sentences and expect me to know what you're talking about. You should have used the word "perception" the first time around.

    2. You said good music doesn't make someone a bad person. And I never said THAT, so if I'm an idiot, then so are you.. you are the one who

  • made a correlation between music and the type of person someone is, I merely asked if you ever listened to his music.

    3. Yes, you are commenting, I'm not sure "accurately" is the right word though.

  • 1 - the sentence makes perfect sense the way it is, i'd go mad translating my every comment for retards.

2 - you implied that i didn't like his music because i criticised him as a person so again my comment is appropriate & yet again you've shown yourself to be an idiot for missing that too. see, i never even mentioned his music, i said he was a retard & you brought up his music.

3 - your judgement on what is accurate or not doesn't seem particularly reliable tho does it?

  • No, you've got it all wrong. You said he's a "dick". I was asking if you know anything about Stevie Wonder to jump to a claim. Do you listen to his music? Have you ever read what others have said about him? Or are you just posting crap? We can argue semantics all day, but you still haven't really said why you think he's a "dick".

"Retards", "idiot", yadda yadda, basically code for "No, I can't answer the question".
