I was flipping through the vinyl at a Goodwill store near my house and stumbled upon Bo Hansson's Attic Thoughts album. I picked it up for 75 cents just cause I thought the cover artwork was cool. Turned out to be one of my favorite albums ever. Bo Hansson was an amazing musician. He will be missed.
I started listening to the Lord Of The Rings in the seventies deep and high in the Colorado Rockies Had a very comfortable Cottage with a huge old stone fire place
Would take some LSD And sit in the dark listening to this sound
To this day
I know the depth of the subconscious mind and how deep and strong myth is
seem to recall this was called "Flight to the Ford"? It's different from the book: in the film Arwen replaces Glorfindel the Elf warior who rescues Frodo from the 9 in the original story.
For me Hanson (have I spelt his name right?) captured the fear, atmosphere and resignation of the Hobbits in his score. Truly a masterpiece!
The best piece of music from the best LP ever made in Sweden, by the best Swedish composer. It is quite outstanding. It also reflects the feelings of the Tolkien trilogy even if I don`t remember if I read the book before or after listening to the music, but they match and both are top class.
sitting round a table with friends, smoking some "strong tobacco", laughing, laughing, laughing... and then, the idea: Let´s travell to the sea, just in the middle of the night, 8 persons in a small volkswagen, 600 Kilometers, laughing, laughing, - a thousand years ago, it´ll never come back. And what´s today? The black riders are all around you. Can´t you see?

Now THIS, my friends, is the quintessential marijuana album. More joints have been rolled on the sleeve of this record than there are trees in Fangorn. My Dad is probably the only person on Earth who bought the LP and didn't listen to it stoned. Great music. A classic.
@ProjectFlashlight612 Haha! Classic. I bought it recently, and I am loving it. Such a good album. Inspired me to grab an old second hand copy of Lord of the Rings book yesterday (a nice 1975 edition, would have been printed the year after this LP is copyrighted, perhaps hitting stores on the same day for all I know!)... I might give it a re-read some time, preferably stoned and listening to this LP at the same time. Haha. Inspires me to make some "inspired by" soundtracks like this!
AAAAA my ears!!! Youtube destroys the quality of the sound :( But I got this on LP and it is so awesome, the sound is much better than on the CD edition
@randomforum Yeah!!! I even heard Allison Steele (the Nightbird) play THIS on FM radio late one night back in the 70's...it was and still is ...Awesome!!!
@thyrfingindianen without 'hitler' this could have been funny… i say as a german. with it this is poor, sorry. he was just saying that this music is beautiful, it was the title-track of 'rock in', he bought it on cd 3-4 years ago and that his daughter plays keyboard. no need to connect it with hitler, just because of the language. i would not have thought that somebody who likes this music could be so narrow-minded.
Ha Ha Ha!! I can recall when Allison Steele played this song on her late-night Radio show, most likely WNEW-FM, ...I remember her sultry, deep voice, saying, "yeah, that's the Black Riders, Flight from the Ford...Bo Hansson..."
This is Soo much better than the movie soundtrack..I have this album from so many years ago, and the music still evokes images of the various scenes more than those brought to mind by the movie...
I think it's done on a moog, atleast he used one for the album, could be an organ though. Amazing record, I own the original swedish version of it, it's lovely, and it surely trancends Lord of The Rings, the best combination is to read the books while listening to the music though, gives it a whole new level.
Lol this is so sweet. Is this done on a Moog? Ive been thinking about ordering this CD for a while now. Where did you find the Vinyl for it? I haven't heard the whole album but i've heard that he transcends the source material, which is pretty impressive considering it's the Lord of the Rings!
I seem to remember the tempo is a bit faster on the vinyl version...
