  • were u by urself in the glider

  • @Marine1994ful CAP O-Flights they go up with an instructor.

  • Cool video, what country is this in?

  • Its in the United States of America. Civil Air Patrol is only in the United States unless there`s others i dont know about in other countries.

  • why on earth does the civil air patrol have gliderS?

  • civil AIR patrol...

  • ..to intercept rogue hot air balloons!

  • lol

  • for training their pilot candidates.

  • i have been a cap for 6 years now and i love it. i have had the same people in my scaudron so there like my second family!! love it and them

  • man cant wait to join Cap i turned 12 october 14 and my local wing meets monday its night saturday right now :)

  • 2nd song?

  • New Born, by Muse

  • aww man i wanna go to glider encampment but im still too young and i havent gone on a glider o-flight yet. must be fun using nothing but wind, thermal and spoilers to fly.

  • we fly a blanik in indy too

  • Im in the virginia wing and I flew in a glider it was awsome.

  • ha thats cool...shootin a vid while flyin...that probably takes SOME skill

  • atually no first of all the instructor in the backseat of the glider flys it while the kid flew it.

  • at first i though you were taking off canpey open

  • congrats

  • Great Video, thanks for sharing =)

  • man this is awsome! im a cadet airmen in the douglas county (nebraska) cadet squadron.

  • thats not a runway but good try

  • Well would you rather have them tie up the runway for 5 minutes

  • i know but i thought it was funny

  • the glider flights were amazing.

  • cadets...U rock!!!!

  • lol i love this song. I went to Washington Wings flight encampment this summer, i soled 12 days after my 14th birthday

    C/2lt McClure, Washington Wing, USCAP

  • Nice video... I've taken 3 powered O-Flights, but haven't taken a glider flight yet. I look forward to it. Thanks for posting the video.

    -C/Afc Wenger

    Squadron 904, PAWG

  • Great vid man! C/Ab Nguyen GA-116

  • looks fun.

  • If it's drizzling, then they can't fly yea?

I have an orientation flight tomorrow.

  • Depends on the cloud ceiling, but typically, we don't fly in the rain.

  • I really hope I go to National Glider Academy this year. Had review boards today, and I have no clue how it went. They said I did well, but I don't believe them.

  • Great Video. Im A CAP Cadet MySelf. Them Gliders Of CAP Are Fun. So, How Was It?

  • are you just a cadet??

  • Yep, 18 now, soloed at 15.

  • i thought you where suppose to be 16 to solo

  • Thats in powered aircraft. In gliders you can solo at 14 and get your license at 16.

  • wow. cool! i also have another question, i am joing the CAP squad near me and i was wondering how many powered flights can you have?

  • As a CAP cadet you are entitled to 10 o-rides (orientation rides). 5 powered, 5 unpowered (glider). If you want actual flight training you can go to a glider training squadron if there is one near you, or you can attend a summer fligh academy. You'll have to pay for those, but the rates are a lot cheaper than at a normal flight school! good luck in the CAP!

  • since the one i have near me doesnt have glider what then?

  • glider 14

  • wow nice vid, ima airman basic cant wait to start flying hahahahha =]

  • what does the yellow lever do if you pull it?

  • It releases the rope that tows the glider once you have reached desired altitude.

  • Right, if you look closely at 5:55, you can see it slide out and then back in as the rope is released and we bank away from the towplane.

  • detaches the cable from the tow plane

  • whoever flew was way too fast on approach, can not box the wake if they tried. not a bad vid tho.

  • Lol, you obviously don't know who's flying then...

  • i just dont understand boxing the wake...

  • simple. the wake is the turbulent air coming from the prop. it sort of goes downward from the towplane. hold each step for about 5 seconds to show the CFIG that u can box the wake. down throught the wake, left still n low tow.maintain the left position to normal tow. go to the right of the tow plane, hold right position and go down. weather cock to low tow and up through the wake.

  • Right. It has no real purpose other to demonstrate to the instructor that you are in control of the aircraft and are capable of maneuvering it.

  • oh...i see

  • When aero tows were a new method of launching gliders no one new for sure what would happen if the glider entered the wake of the tow plane. So when a gulider pilot wanted to go to low tow they boxed the wake to avoid it. Now it just helps to build pilot skills.

  • no i mean why we do it

  • :( i didn't get to go gliding

  • hey srry if im botherin u n all but i got a question...do u hae t be smart join CAP?

  • You have to know how to spell. Without chatspeak (I'm only kidding). Yes, you do have to be smart, cause your dealing with people's lives. Their not asking You to be einsten or anything, but you do need to have common sense, loyalty, and determintaion. With that, you should do fine :D. If you got any questions send me a message.

  • no mam'

  • isent it iligal for cap to fly hicopters in cap?

  • i think it might be illegal for caps to do that but some squadrons may have diferent rules

  • I dont think we have any of these encampments in Oregon...How is the training for gliders?

  • sweet i just got back from a wawg glider encampment what wing is this?

  • Los Alamamitos JFTB, in SoCal

  • i was towed behind a maule in my solo flight

i also solo'd in an old schweizer with a glide ratio of 7:1

lol that was a fun day

  • That tow plane, a maule, is a STOL a/c and designed for slow flight. Flying a slow, steep climb, gets us altitude ASAP. If we have a line break we want as much altitude as possible to work with. Altitude= options. Also, since we stay within the airport's airspace we don't have a whole lot of room to work with.

  • thats interesting, I did not know CAP used Maule's. We tow behind a 172 so at 60 kts. we're only climbimg at 300-500 FPM. I definitely agree with your theory for gliders: Altitude=options...so true. Great video!

  • Thanks. What I didn't mention was that, unfortunately, CAP decided that the Maule didn't perform to its liking and has since sold all of them. So we now tow with a 182 :-(

  • CAP still uses maules. we used em at my NFA just a week ago. 182's Suck compared to the maule :)

    GLIDERS FOREVER!!!

  • noooo need a PA-25...:))

  • we had to tow behind a 182 instead of a maule because my wing's (washington) maule was tied up with its annual

  • hey KVNY, as a glider student pilot myself in CAP from Minnesota I'm just curious why you climb so quickly and slowly. Above 1000 FPM at 55ktn's? thats crazy! the tow plane is literally 5kts from stalling! Maybe it has to do with the fact your basically 40ASL? just curious

  • omg i am like so so so anxious to go to flight academy today i hope it will be super fun lol

  • oh yea, it was super fun alright! -ryden

  • Love this. I will be leaving on Saturday to staff our Glider (encampment) School Here is Pennsylvania. Did it last year also, and although it was alot of work and long days, it was such a blast.

  • Hey i'm thinking about join CAP does it take much out of your schedule because i'm also on Varsity Hockey.

  • Mast Cadet squadrons meet once a week. The length of the meetings and the night of the week will very from squadron, but the average is 2 to 4 hours. And, of course there are weekend and summer activities as well.

  • I remember when i did this! Its pretty amazing, there are no words to describe the whistling sound and the view. When i went on the motor ride, this kid next to me upchucked a chewy bar.haha

  • wow youngstown squadron never does this

  • sweet i just did that today in CAP it was so fun... no sound atall sweetness

  • hey i'm a CAP cadet MN 113! minnesota wing CAP i'm from worthington Squadron! i got my first rank AIRMan!!

  • were was u wen u did this?

  • you can do it in any state civil air patrol squadron, like im with foothills squadron in colorado and we are doing this next thursday i think.

  • wats the second song?

  • "New Born" by Muse

  • wats the second song called?

  • we get to do that once a year in PA thru CAP

  • not our PA sqd, this vid reminds me of when we went years ago, except that we landed on the runway:) "no piper go-arounds son"

  • you misunderstand, i am in DE wing but we go to PA to fly gliders

  • oh my bad, where do you guys usually go in PA to fly?

  • I'm a student glider pilot and have soloed, but in this video my instructor was flying from the backseat. As for being afaid of heights, i wouldn't worry about it. I'm not a big fan of heights either and flying doesnt bother me!

  • did you ever get to do a wingover?

  • Yep, as well as stalls, high speed approaches (even steeper and faster than the one in the video) and incipient (beginning stage) spins

  • we never got to do high speed approaches...turning stalls are fun

  • and is that u flying the plane?

  • kool video! luv it! i wish i could join CAP but im afraid of hights! wat do i do?!!?

  • thx for believing in me! even though i luv CAP im still afraid of hights! but maybe i can make it!

  • and i luv ur video i gave it 5 stars!

  • i dont think i could do that even though i luv CAP!

  • Sure you could. All you have to do is listen to your instructors and not do anything stupid! Like with anything be prepared to mess up a couple times (but hopefully not too badly lol), learn from your mistakes and get back in the saddle/cockpit.

  • i could nvr do that!!!!

  • Of course you could, But not with that attitude ;-)

  • Nice! I don't think I could land a glider/plane and record a video at the same time....you got skill lol.

  • That was my instructor flying from the back seat :-). I don't think i could do that either, and, frankly, i wouldn't try it lol.

  • what's civil air patrol? what do they do?

i don't think we have that in belgium ...

  • lol i just saw something. 3 ppl including me have 911 in their name. (healer you were in the 78th? how long ago?)

  • yea glider o-rides are fun and are more fun than powered (personally). nice video also. GO 78th EAST IOWA (sry if i double posted)

  • I haven't had the opportunity to be around the gliders - I know that IAWG has one (I used to be a member of the 78th, in fact!). I am a member of the NEWG (Offutt Composite SQ) and NCR Staff. We have been talking to IAWG about doing some glider O-rides, in western Iowa. Take care!

  • kinda funny you mention IAWG's glider......I was involved in an accident just yesterday with it about to solo...lol

  • yea glider o-rides are fun. nice video. ok song. GO 78th EAST IOWA!

  • "Holiday" By Green Day. And in response to an earlier question, this is at Los Alamitos AAF, in Los Alamitos, CA

  • thanks man

  • dude wats that first music title? Also. Like CAP realy cool! Love glider traning

  • Love CAP. Go Alpha flight. Great Lakes Region Encampment. Honor Flight. HOOAH

  • looks like fun

    awesome vids !

  • Where is that?

  • i took 2 glider flights with the CAP. I havent been in over a year, but will probably join up again this summer.

  • ah.. memories.. :( i liked flying powered better though, cause i got to wear the headset :P

  • Man, you didn't stay up very long.

  • Well, you'll notice at 6:08, there's a cut in the film. YOu can't really tell how long they were up....

  • Good vid, is that the worlds longest aerotow rope? Do you still glide or was it a one off?

  • Our rope is farely standard, at 250 feet i beleive. Different lengths of rope will of course require different towing styles, but, as far as i know, 250 is pretty average. And yes, i still glide. I've got about 18hrs and am working toward my private glider liscense :-)

  • Ah, i just looked at your videos and noticed that you glide too. I guess you guys just use shorter tow ropes there than we do here. But then again, i've only been to two glider ports, this one and one other, so i dunno!

  • I love flying. I love CAP. I also like gliding, and have a lot of fun doing. Looks like a good video. Only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is because you play holiday at the beginning. don't put anything greenday into a CAP video.

  • I had no idea thay did gliders there. Is that a MedFly flight that departs at the end?

  • Yep, thats a medfly at the end. The CAP has a squadron there at Los Al with two gliders.

  • CAP is awesome

  • Brings back memories of my 3 Flights! (too bad they got rid of the Maule)

  • sweet thing to fly, used to fly the blanik.

  • that is what it looks like about 5 thousand feet in the air in a glider lol
