  • Thank you very much for your video. I just started making smoothies. I have made three so far (1 c frozen strawberries, 3 c. spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 orange, water) and the color looks like mud. Your color is beautiful. My 6 y/o daughter drank it and really liked it but almost didn't because of the color. I tried the exact same recipe except put in mixed salad greens instead of spinach and was way too bitter. My daughter wouldn't drink it. Are smoothies supposed to be mud colored?

  • @eeploo

The berries will give your smoothie a brown (mud) colour. Skip them in the beginning if you need to.

  • Once you get past the beginner stage, you can try all sorts of different ingredients. Check out the grossest looking smoothie that is actually "Delicious" at "Top Secret Smoothie Recipe" from BabyPandaTales

  • craving the greens? mine taste aweful and I'm forcing it down. I tossed out a bunch today because it was so disgusting. What am I missing???

  • @earthwalker7 Throw in some more fruit, especially banana which has a lot of natural sugar. Try sticking to milder greens, such as spinach, and stay away from more bitter greens like dandelion.

  • @earthwalker7 You should get the book "Green Smoothie Revolution" by Victoria Boutenko. She tells you everything you need to know. Has lots of recipes to get you started. Any of the Boutenko books are excellent. She was the one that revolutionized the green smoothie drinks for health. Don't eat apple seeds, they contain cyanide. Seeds of any kind can be toxic. Toxins build up in you system and have later consequences.

  • Looks like he's drinking out of a flower vase. JUST KIDDING! Really though, this video was quite helpful.

  • You look great, and thanks for info.

  • really appreciate your video!! thanks so much!!

  • For anyone looking for his awesome ginormous glass, I think I found it on the Ikea website. It's called the Vasen, with article number 000.171.33

    Only $1.99. Awesome!

It's obvious how the lifestyle you lead keeps your health and spirits high, be it from the wonderful California sun or the daily 35oz of green smoothie you drink!

    Thanks for the video :)

  • is juicing that much different than smoothies

  • thanks for the vegication. Today I bought a blender and 50 bucks of vegies and fruit and made one of your recipies. Wow its good. I was like daaaaaaaamb!

  • You are helping me a lot brother. Thank you. Peace and happiness always.

  • Truly you are the Mr. Rogers of green smoothies. : )

  • RJ Where did you get that massive glass? It's awesome ;)

  • I like you, you seem all mellow like your high on life. I'm going to start green smoothies as my new year's resolution (and to get fit again). When I'm making them I'll be only making them for myself, so how long would you recommend keeping it in the fridge for later? Cause I'd prefer to make them in bulk, well maybe not "in bulk" but more than one serving at once. Thanks =]

  • Started doing green smoothies yesterday. These things are giving me a buzz! My recipe - kale, collards, carrot, some blueberries, cranberries, banana, squeeze of lime. Pineapple (core and fruit), steel cut oats, coconut, peanut butter, spinach. I add supplements such as soy/whey protein and flax oil. Oh, and grapes. I end up with 4 cups of green stuff that satisfies my hunger and makes me feel incredible.

  • Hi, this is really a very good video. I started drinking green smoothies about a month ago and I love them. One delicious recipe is: avocado, mango, banana, carrots and a spoonful of flax seed oil. This is really a great smoothie.

  • Let me ask you, would you recommend someone do a green smoothie fast? some people do 14 day. some do 40 days on youtube anyway. i want to do it for cleansing....and weight loss.

    what do you recommend?

  • I've only been REALLY getting into green smoothies for about 3 weeks, the first week I did a lot of research and made sort of a Beginner shopping list and then I froze all of my fruits! The past 2 weeks I've been really experimenting, but the only veggies I've added are spinach, carrot, celery, and avocado (I plan to expand into more leafy greens next shopping trip) I feel healthier, more active, and I look great, lost 5 pounds!

Besides Flax seed, what else can I add? Be detailed please and ty!

  • @HeroFlame

    Hi HeroFlame,

Great to hear that you are getting into Green Smoothies. It has been over 3 years for me and I just keep feeling better.

My site, TheGreenSmoothie(dot)com is just getting back online after some time down so you will be able to get all kinds of information there in the upcoming weeks.

For now though, write me at rjncaction(at)hotmail(dot)com and I will get you a very specific and large recipe list that I send out. It is very helpful while getting started.

  • @HeroFlame at the healthfood store I bought wheatgrass powder to add and some iodine drops(for the thyroid)

  • Be careful eating the pits of random fruits. Some are quite poisonous. Also it might not blend and will be hiding in the smoothie waiting to choke you!

  • @RobbytheLion

Yes it takes a pretty strong blender to make an avocado pit unnoticeable in a smoothie but they are out there. The blend tec I use grinds them right up.

The only other pits or seed I grind are apple seeds which are supposed to contain some kind of toxic element though I have blended them for years with no problem. Use your own judgment and intuition for anything you put in your body. Have fun and feel great!

  • we have an expensive Jack Lalane juicer, but a regular blender. Would it work to do the greens in the juicer then combine with the other ingredients in the blender to make the smoothie?

  • @danbaxley

    Hi Dan,

Regular blenders are great. I started with a $29 dollar special that took me a while to burn out with some really thick kale.

I sometimes do just what you are planning and juice my greens first then blend that juice with some fruit, coconut etc...

It just seems that the leafy green pulp that is lost in the juicing, gives me a different feel when I use only my blender and drink all parts of the fruits and veggies. Either way you will be doing a great thing for your body. RJ

  • voice is to low cant hear even with speaker blasting

  • I have a question, raw food has bacterial growth and pesticides used on vegetables while harvesting, how do we overcome it? It may affect us.

  • this guy is ridiculous, is he high off the love rays he must have reflected from his Cali bathroom mirror?? yeah, bring it closer to your enormously inflated head. suck your own willie pops, green smoothies aren't brain science, i'm sure even Sunny could handle it.

  • you are boring aburrido

  • sue 345, I have a small kitchenade food processor - one of those tiny 600 watt things that make one large mug of smoothie at a time. What I found that helps a lot is to first put in the greens and the water, blend that for a minute or two until all that's left are really tiny pieces. Then add the fruit and blend until smooth. I also add some flax oil for the Omega 3's. It has virtually no flavor and it's wonderful for the body and the mind.

  • Thank you!!!

  • Thank you VERY much. You are wonderful!

  • i hate it when it comes to blenders... a 3hp blender is just too expensive... always something comes up when starting something good...dang!

love the smoothie idea, hate the not so smooth blenders

  • Thank you. Great video.

  • He aint proud, he's content and feeling good.

  • You can eat an avocado pit??? To think I've been wasting them this whole time!

  • I had a green smoothie today with only spinach, almond milk, stevia, vanilla extract, and ice. It was surprisingly palatable.

  • I have a Kitchen Aid blender & it doesn't make my greens smooth. It leaves my kale in bits ...not a good taste, drinking chunks.....I thought it was a good blender....until I started smoothies.

  • Is it really worth it for me to buy a $400 Vitamix? I have a food processor called "Quad Blade Euro-Pro" that I plan to use on my 1st smoothie as the groceries get here... will be very soon... I plan on using only kale, spinach, banana, and apple.

  • RJ mentions the Boutenkos- the Green for Life family. Sergei on one video said that a regular blender will do but you have to blend longer. They do so many and so much maybe this is why they use mostly a VitaMix. I've used all 4 of these in combinations in the Braun and it works fine.

  • Dear RJ, enjoyed your talk. I have started green smoothies for past week. Phenomenal difference in my energy, clear headed, and my craving for chocolate (I was eating tons) has drastically reduced. Enjoy your smoothie. Gill

  • afternoon for me!

    cheers

  • you blended the avocado pit?? man, that's crazy, and awesome too, i mean! i know you're using a 3 HP blender but do you ever have to worry about the blades getting broken?

  • I started the green smoothie drinks, and I love it !!!!! I'm hooked forever. PEPS reading this- you should try it!!!

    Thanks RJ

  • This was so relaxing to watch.

    Where do you get Spirulina?

  • i'm sure you can get it online like at amazon as well as health food stores. the one i bought was close to $25 which i'm pretty sure is rather steep and it's in powder form.

  • lol i love this vid. every time i have a green smoothie i copy him lol ''nothing like having a green smoothie....

  • what's with the weird face at 0:17? lol

  • he is just so proud! =D

  • Is that Steven Colbert?

  • I never thought about blending the avocado pit. Wow thanks!! I love how your cat come up to say hi :-)

  • Wow, i just had my first green drink as I was watching this, I already I feel awesome, My first smoothie wasn't so good, I added too much water, and It didn't look real green, I was more chunky with apple peel bits in it, But It didn't taste bad, IT was OK, and It's great livin...

  • I just started into the green smoothy diet yesterday and love it... I remember when I was in california in 97 I drank this green drink there that was called Spirolina.. wow was that ever good. I'm in Canada now, I think it was sold here also, but didn't catch on to finicky canadian ethnic tastes. That spirolina drink was amazing though, I have to look for that again.

  • Spirulina is incredibly healthy for you but it tastes like shit warmed up.

  • Yeah I cannot imagine drinking that stuff warm, yecchhh.. even my smoothies I find I like em on the cool side, keep ingredients in fridge before blending... as far as spirulina goes, I was in the health food store and I saw some bottled pill form spirulina.. is that the same stuff as the green spirulina drink? Also I am curious do you know what exactly goes into spirulina? like what the heck is in that stuff anyways? its some kind of algae isn't it???

  • Hi there,

It has taken me a little while to get back to you but thanks for writing.

Yeah, that spirulina is some serious green food. What it is is two different species of Blue Green Algae and Blue Green Bacteria. It it grown in modern times for its high protein and high vitamin content in an easily digestible form. Plus it's green and everyone loves green.

I haven't used it in a while but I'm thinking about it for a REAL green smoothie.

Hows your green smoothie blending going?

    RJ

  • Hi Queen Sheba,

I love collards but haven't used them very much.

I founds some starts at the nursury the other day and am now growing them in my smoothie garden.

A couple months and I'll be drinking them with you.

    Thanks for the comment!

    RJ

  • I haven't tried collard greens yet, but I did try Arugulia and that has a pretty funky taste, quite undescribable but still like the taste.

  • what would you recommend with collard greens??

  • I use collard greens in my smoothies all the time. Very good!

  • good videos though, ive watched them all...thanks!

  • thats a big ass glass!!!...whats is that a 5 gallon glass!...he should peel off his clothes and dive into that motherfucka!

  • Hey,

yeah that is a monster glass isn't it. I used it for effect. I think its a flower vase from Ikea. Crazy!

I do drink almost that much everyday.

    I appreciate your commical coment.

    Thanks,

    RJ

  • looks so goood!

  • RJ here ffatali,

So lets see, sure drink two a day and nothing else. The nutrient content of one smoothie is more than your average person gets in a week or longer.

You may end up loosing some weight and going through all kinds of adjustments but you will have wonderful health if your body is ready for it.

Nuts and soup sounds great too. Follow your inspiration.

I blend other veggies sometimes like zuccini, onions, bell peppers etc. Experiment and make sure it tastes good!!

    RJ

  • thanks for you time to answer this, i find it quite hard to go all raw, its been about two weeks im having a green smoothie every morning. i can feel the difference already, i never experiance anything like that before. thanks for your vids.

  • You are very welcome ffatali,

I'm happy to hear you are feeling the effects of the great green smoothies.

I know it can be hard doing all raw but the more you drink the smoothies the easier it will be to handle more and more raw foods in their whole form.

The smoothies will prepare your body for raw because they are so easy to digest and assimilate.

After a while on the smoothies, check out my video on the hydrochloric acid test and see how you do. Its fun!

    Take care,

    RJ

  • can i have two green smoothies a day? and nothing else is it healthy? well maybe handfull of nuts or soup in between.

can i blend vegetables as well. like brocoli and carrots. im definetley going make it a habbit. tnx

  • about how often should one drink these?

  • Hi there,

Thanks for the question. It is a wonderful and exciting experience getting started on the smoothies. You are going to love the healthy changes you will go through.

As for how much spinach, you can use as much as you can fit in your blender but I recommend starting with less and adding until you get a consistency that tastes good to you.

Two good sized handfulls is a good place to start. Then add from there as you wish. YOu really cant get too many greens.

    Have fun!

    RJ

  • Thank you for the info! :) I'm excited! About how much spinach should one use?

  • i like green slightly gay?

  • thanks for this video! great site! i'm going to try my first green smoothie today.

  • thank you very much i am ready to embark on a green smoothie journey
