Haha this is my opinion: Old Skool shits over the new skool. On every aspect, Lyrically, flow, storytelling. Back in the days you had Illmatic, Infinite, AmeriKKKas Most Wanted, Big Picture etc people will never forget those classic's. These days most of them are fucked.

In my opinion, hip hop rappers from the beginning (like in the 70s) to the end of the 90s are considered REAL HIP-HOP. Today's "hip-hop" only apply the rapping technique but not lyric-wise. Plus, today's hip-hop are more club-oriented while old-school hip-hop is more designed for you to listen in a room or to listen to with friends while driving somewhere.

lol I had no idea Shaquille O'neal recorded a song. Ya i agree that MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice are really corny, but they did introduce rap to the mainstream. I also agree that older tends to be better ( i like 90s hip hop). Older artists i like - Eminem, Tupac, Common, and Nas. I still like quite a few people today though :) Newer artists i like - Kid Cudi, Kanye West (even though he is a douche), Jay-Z, and sometimes Drake. To me it really depends on the artist, but i guess i generally like older hip hop better. But your categories are a little vague. Early 80s hip hop(MC Hammer, Sir Mix a lot) is way different than late 80s hip hop/ "The Golden Age" (Ice T, Public Enemy, Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest), which is way different than 90s hip hop(Tupac, Eminem, Notorious B.I.G.). Its also important to note that a lot of your "Old hip hop" contains people still recording today like Nas, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg.
