  • @Ultanbeare. Yes. He brought the navy to them

  • What's with all the Irish (I assume) people here complaining about the term British Isles? Stupid complaint, sounds like nitpicky political correctness to me. "British" is a geographical, not political, term. I've never heard any of my immediate family & friends in Ireland complain about the term.

  • haha i actually like this version!

  • love it , long live the chieftains and the rollin stones

  • the best performance of "rocky road"

  • I will grant you that historically as that is true but is no longer politically relevant and therefore I take issue with it and rightly so

  • And, for the record, the British Isles DO exist. And YES, Ireland IS apart of it. HOWEVER, that term is NOT used in Ireland due to the affiliation to "British". The term was originally coined by Ptolemy, when he referred to Ireland as "Little Britain" and the island of England/Scotland/Wales as "Great Britain." These names were later used to mark the distinction from the peninsula of Brittany, in northwestern France.

  • @lilbigwill8 - At last somebody who is educated - Totally agree - Unfortunately You Tube only allows so many characters and creates half opinions - but on a political note - Ireland IS NOT part of the BS - Northern Ireland is but I am being semantic - good intelligent comment - a breath of fresh air

  • I absolutely love this song. The Dubliners are amongst my favorite groups. I have to admit, at first I thoughti t was sketchy at first, but this certainly is an interesting twist to it. Although, I do hafta admit I think there was too much instrumentals when the bit of "Satisfaction" comes in. But definitely a nice twist.

  • I went on a University field trip to Ireland when I was at Sheffield University. My friend Fiona asked one of our Irish guides "so, do you go over to the Mainland often?". The guide was speechless. I was stunned! It was left to me (with my "second generation Irish" qualifications!) to explain the past few thousand years... We are taught nothing about England's empire building past, so who can blame some of us for being ignorant. I'm sorry if it causes offence.

  • the british isles was a term coined by the british monarch to lay claim to ireland after constant invasions by ireland to the british moarch,

fed up with this the monarch declared ireland and the uk the british isles,

staking a claim to the thrown of the 5 kings of ireland, causing a war that has lasted 800years, so no we are not part of the british isles, as they do not exist!

  • Ah those West Britishers play lovely music.

  • @GOMBOLD17 LOL

  • Greetings from Argentina to the great Irish. Always remember the Admiral William Brown, as he did brave people have made my country free.

  • @TEJENDRIX yes i have been told about the legend admiral william brown a brave irish man who gave a great fight for argentina and its rightfull place to the rocky road to freedom and correct me if i am wrong but the beautiful people of argentina still honour this great legend every year to the present day with a street party to thank such kind brave act and a forever reminder of our peoples brotherhood, nations built by warriors god bless you brother and i wish all days to be happy

  • Galway boys are always there

  • SPAREPARTSCENTRE ,learn about something before you pass comment ,you haven't a clue ,you're just another one of these that thinks they know it all yet know only what you hear in conversation ,and open up your mind to learning

  • @gaffey1711 If you accept that then you are a sheep and I have absolutely no respect for you - I haven't a clue? - I'm 5o years of age ... what age are you? and who are you to tell me I haven't a clue - You are the sheep not me and as long as you agree to the term british isles - it will be used - Sir you have no forsight and are most definitely less educated than I am - haven't a clue - what a gobshite

  • @gaffey1711 What age are you? - I guarantee I know more about Irish history, Mythology, Music, Irish Politics and history of the state! than you ever learnt in school or looked up - open my mind? - Learn something? - please you couldn't hold a candle - Fact!

  • Irish are not British. They are Britons. The English stole the name and they are not Britons, no matter what they call themselves. Just because they inhabit part of what was once Briton does not give them the right to use the name Britons to refer to themselves, especially since the real Britons still exist.

  • @Ardalla555 I take what you are saying on board - I am also aware that these islands are referred to as the british isles - HOWEVER - No Taoisigh in Ireland has EVER referred to Ireland as part of the british isles - to do so would be counter our call for independence and just because it's part of everyday venacular on sky news doesn't mean that that's the way it should be - You don't have to accept that and I like a lot of other people don't

  • @Ardalla555 You are absolutely right - and because they are not thought history properly in school they don't even know this themselves - poor things

  • Valiete Irish people!

    Admiral William Brown recalls Argentina!

People with courage who fought for the freedom of my country!

    Saludos hermanos de Irlanda!

  • I think that this is a great version. I think that a lot of the bands that have done this song have done an awesome job.

  • i m irish and have been for the last 49 years and think this is pretty good actually and paddy moloney would nt have done it if he did nt think it would work music is music is music !

  • I'm sorry but NO self respecting Irishman would ever agree to that - Yes I do Live on the ISLAND of Ireland an ancient place as is Britain so boundaries mutually respected - I will never call myself 'British' - I never and will never respect a 'suggested ownership' of the Island of Ireland. I don't accept that the north of the country is 'Owned' by the British establishment - Upon these things we disagree but I do and can agree that the music should be enjoyed - These things run deep

  • Yuck... Why are people from England singing an Irishmans song!

  • What a horrible cacophany. You can tell the Stones were just jamming whatever came to their minds, probably on a crapload of drugs, so I guess this kind of shit should be expected. Still a great band in rock and roll, though.

  • FUCK THE STONES!!!!

    LONG LIVE THE DUBLINERS!!!

  • medea1990 best scene in the movie. the music made it.

  • god they made a mess of this song !!

  • My God, my favourite folk song ever!!!

  • jeez what a load of w*nk.. a great song and a million better versions than this.. who needs to hear this great song butchered - don't know what bothers me more: the ridiculous jazzy drumming, the horrible 'blues' soloing or the sudden snatch of 'Satisfaction' thrown in. I couldn't listen to the end - please tell me Jagger doesn't sing.. okay i'm going to lie down (and maybe lighten up)

  • @TheWaytoolazy - I agree. With Luke Kelley's version here on youtube, this does not shine.

  • love this song, love the whole CD this song is on , Mick Jagger sings "Long Black Veil" , Way better then Johnny Cash ever did(sorry Johnny)

  • Was this song in Sherlock Holmes? It's so familiar..

  • @XxXcoolbeansyeaXxX ye but thats the luke kelly version

  • @XxXcoolbeansyeaXxX A faster paced version is used in the film.

  • @XxXcoolbeansyeaXxX Yes, The Dubliners version. At the boxing scene and the end credits.

  • This is wild.

  • Keith Richards maternal grandpa was an English country Fiddler. He grew up with traditional music of ht e British Isles.

  • @Aviv52 British Isles? - Ireland isn't part of Britain - wont be and never was - Although your comment is very decent - I and all the people on my Island will never refer to ourselves as living in the 'British Isles' - Our Island is ours - Join in by all means but have some respect

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE - Eire is geographically part of the British Isles - you live there.

Ireland is partly Eire and partly UK.

But then this music isn't political is it?

Should we just enjoy the music?

  • @christopherjohbailey Ireland is not part of the British Isles. Britain is an island beside Ireland, thats about the extent of the geographical relationship between us as far as any Irish person is concerned. Just because the British ruling class claimed Ireland to be part of the British Isles does not mean it to be true.

  • @marcher87 I made no political comment about Ireland, the Irish people or the British, just a comment that all of the islands (about 6000) make up the British Isles.. see wikipedia or whatever...

  • @christopherjohbailey It doesnt matter to me or any other Irish person what wikipedia says. Even in political agreements between the two countries our government refuses to use the term "British Isles". I am simply informing you that the people of Ireland dislike being told we are in the British Isles, therefore others should respect this and stop saying we are in the British Isles. I really don't care what some geography book says

  • @marcher87 OK, I understand, so in the UK we will refer to the British Isles as the British Isles (I hope you respect our right to do that) and you wont, which i do respect.

  • @christopherjohbailey NO - we dont! - If you refer to Ireland as PART of your so called british isles then NO - we in Ireland refuse! We are NOT part of your union and never throughout history have we ever believed we were - we are not or will ever be subject to your crown and you have no sway or juresdiction here - it's your folly to believe that britain is the start beginning and end - Can't you see that this is why britain is so hated in the world? - Can't you see outside your own window?

  • @marcher87 It is Part of the British Isles. Its a geographical term, nothing to do with politics.

  • @christopherjohbailey Geography is a political bias and I'm afraid there are a great many people who don't entertain your version of Ireland - they speak their own language and consider themselves to be wholly independant of britain with a small b - I hold this view - and just because you believe that Ireland should be part of the UK doesn't make it alright - in fact I'm guessing that you're english - or very young - Ireland and england are very different today - and of course music is all

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE As a very old englishman of Irish descent I despair that irishmen like yourself cannot distinguish between a discussion of plain geography and a political dollop of spleen - I'm going to end this chat accepting that you have made some very valid political points that were never part of the subject under discussion.

  • @christopherjohbailey I'm sorry - but your wrong - I don't agree with you AT ALL - What part of this do you not get? - Ireland is an Island - The majority of people on this island don't include Britain as part of our nation so why should we accept our location being referred to as the 'British' Isles? Its a term that is left over from British colonialism and I / we don't have to like it! I don't refer to Britain as the Irish Isles do I? How would you feel if the world started to? Respect!!!!

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE But part of Ireland is part of Britain Northern Ireland

  • @shadowflame1300 - Says a minority on this Island - It's just tolerated for peace sake but our island is still an island and the majority hold sway - why should you accept that you are part of the british isles - Michael Collins didn't - are you afraid of what they would think?

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE northern ireland is part of britain hence the name Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

  • @JackedUpBumm - I say up your arse then - The island of Ireland and the Irish people are a lot older than your so called 'KINGdumb' - to quote history is not for youtube - not enough characters! but I could most certainly educate you correctly in terms of why you made that comment and so wrong that you actually are. Northern Ireland IS NOT part of britain - It has been claimed by britain and conquered by - that doesn't mean that is the way it should be as I said you tube doesn't allow debate

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE you sir..... are immensly retarded. fly your rebel flag elsewhere bucko. And by god sir you may besmirch me.... but you shant besmirch the name of queen Elizabeth the second I SHALL SLICE YOU FROM NAP TO CHOPS GOOD SIR... and now i bid you.... adieu

  • @JackedUpBumm nape*

  • @JackedUpBumm Fuck your queen and go jack up her bum while your at it and as far as slicing someone up is concerned - I invite you to try so piss off back to that hole you call home and as far as flying a rebel flag is concerned I've more of a right to fly a flag around this video than you do but I wouldn't call it rebel - I would call it justifified! Typical stupid uneducated brit - besmirch your queen - fuck her and all who place their mickey in her!

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE yeeeeaaahhhh im from america so you are pretty much barkin up the wrong tree fuckwad

  • @JackedUpBumm er as previously stated - same fucking thing you dope! red white and blue and twice as uneducated - I'm from america ..... how embarrassing for you - who gives a shit where your from - I'd still smack you in the gob Jesus and I thought brits were stupid ..............

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE man oh man oh man you are so funny... dude take a small piece of advice.... winning an argument online is like winning the special olympics.... you may have won.... but you're still retarded. And if i recall who has he most powerful military in the world -rubs chin- just who was it hmmmmm oh yeah america thats right hehehe. Just to let you know you are the 8th most retarded person i've ever seen on the internet go complain to your friends down at the local bar you fuckin drunk!

  • @JackedUpBumm Hah hah hah - Guess you are as tired as me of arguing stupid arguments - good response - not bad at all - We touched swords and silly we don't do for long - good .. A beer is on it's way - but the stupid drunk thing - stupid is ok and so is drunk but I'm not neither - to come back to the original argument - Nobody in Ireland considers themselves part of the BI - we find it very insulting - we all know its a geographical term but thats only because its widely accepted ... more

  • @JackedUpBumm - Jacko - The states are pretty over extended with regard to Military but we in Ireland actually have a very kind and purposeful affinity with the states and that is a fact - After all - Literally half the population of our country sought refuge there - so Stateside anyone who is Irish today has a connection albeit first hand ... secondhand or historic (glad we crossed swords btw) I love humour

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE -Dramatic music plays- narrator: and off their own ways they went..... to be continued

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE ,we in Ireland are not part of Britian ,but we are part of the British Isles ,it's a geographicial term ,not political one ,

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE ,we in Ireland are not part of Britian ,but we are part of the British Isles ,it's a geographicial term ,not political one

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE Hate to burst your bubble but you couldn't be more wrong. Geographically speaking anyway. If you want to say "not part of England" or "the UK" you'd be dead on but Ireland is one of the "British Isles." Now if you choose not use the term that's your business and I get that, lots of bad blood going back centuries.

  • @tmlafrance But: The term British Isles is controversial in Ireland,[7][12] where there are objections to its usage due to the association of the word British with Ireland.[13] The Government of Ireland does not use the term[14] and its embassy in London discourages its use.[15] As a result, Britain and Ireland is becoming a preferred description,[13][16][17] and Atlantic Archipelago is increasingly favoured in academia,[18][19][20][21] although British Isles is still commonly employed.[16]

  • @tmlafrance The term is politically untrue! It is OLD and as I admire your cander my 'bubble' is not just mine alone - in fact its a bubble almost as big as the island of Ireland itself - The term should be named appropriately in my opinion to reflect the political nature as it actually is - if you want to burst a bubble thats the one you should be aiming a pin at

  • @SPAREPARTSCENTRE And I've to add to your comment, that from my experience, even the people from Ireland are veeery different compared to british people.

  • Was that tune Nikita Kruschev in the middle???

  • the enjoyment of playing comes through loud and clear!

  • lovely

  • i never thought that the rolling stones would ever do a song like this. its just funny to even think about.

  • @sunbabybull

The chieftains have often opened for the Rolling Stones on tour for many years. This was recorded in Frank Zappas studio. These guys have serious credibility!!
