Dear Diana, maybe you want to check into Dr. Steve Roberts theories about IL-8 / cytokines and the NF-kappa master switch of inflammation. Roberts likes to treat with "banjo" ;) but also his theories are veeery interesting, for his wife has migraines and he is a good guy who really made up his mind to help his wife and others... I think he also really wanted to fight these migraines of his wife... he is a good man! I know him for a while on facebook now. Greeetings Mikel
Glad to hear you are out having fun. I've been feeling great too thanks to food, exercise and my meds for FMS too.... Reading "Minding My Mitochondria" by Terry L Wahls, MD is helping me fine tune using food for medicine. Terry has MS and went from using a motorized wheelchair to riding her bike to work. After this helped her her patients (she's an internal Med. dr. at a VA Hospital), She's gluten and dairy free, lots of greens and other colored veggies and fruits. Give it a look on amazon!
@missejane Hi Ms. Jane! Great to hear from you! Sounds like a great book! I will definitely look it up! As I go on this journey, trying to figure out all the pieces of the puzzle on how to get better, it seems more and more that food/diet is one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle, (as big, or even more important than medication. So strange than most mainstream U.S. doctors totally ignore that dietary aspect of wellness.) Dairy. Yeah, been struggling with whether to eat yogurt or not.
@deju357 Hi Deja! Glad to hear you're having a good summer. Yes, Topamax has a ton of side effects. I've tried going off it three times, but each time, my migraines have come back. I think I'm stuck with that drug, despite the risks and side effects. A stroke? Yikes! That's some serious stuff. I have to get regular brain scans anyway, because I have a colloid cyst, which is a type of brain tumor. What do you do for your migraines? - Diana
@Kella86 Hi Kella! Or, should I say TwinKella! I've always wanted a twin! On the Guai Support Group, folks often say it is uncanny how much they have in common with other folks who have fibromyalgia. This is very reassuring after feeling like the "odd person out" after years of seeking out a diagnosis for the bizarre, seemingly random symptoms of fibro. It is so reassuring to know there are other folks out there who understand exactly what we're going through.
@ironbith Hi Ironbith! Great to hear from you! So glad you are doing better this year! Hopefully, we will all continue to improve together, as we share ideas and strategies that are helping us get well. I try to write down the stuff that works, and the stuff that doesn't, so I can look for patterns. Then, again, I'm a writer, so I write down pretty much everything, anyway. :)
It's great to hear you say that the problems fibro has caused you are reversible :) I am a coeliac, so am on a gluten free diet anyway. I have also recently switched from cow's milk to goat's milk and am seeing a real difference with digestion, energy levels, skin etc. I am also allergic to citrus though so all in all am pretty restricted but am trying to work on getting a varied and balanced diet that will help me with my fibro. It's a long process but hopefully I'll get there in the end!!
@happysad321 Hi HappySad! Nice to hear from someone else who is doing gluten-free! I tested negative for celiac's, but decided to do gluten-free anyway. What a difference it has made. We went dairy-free in our house, after our son had all sorts of digestive issues. (He completely stopped growing for two years.) Turns out cow's milk is much better for baby cows than baby humans. He's doing great on almond milk. Food issues seem to play a big part with auto-immune folks.
I have thought for years that I might have Fibromyalgia. I am in great pain every day but it has been a struggle for me to get doctors to look beyond the fact that I have hypothyroidism. Anyway, I have recently gone gluten-free myself, I've also cut out sugar and most simple carbs. I was getting horrible headaches nearly every day and they have been gone since I changed my diet. I've also lost 8 lbs! Yippee! I still have all the rest of my pain issues though.
@dreamingmuse Hi Dreaming! Yes, if you have hypothyroidism, I could see where doctors would always want to just treat you for that, since the symptoms overlap. But, obviously, you wouldn't still be coming back to the doctors, if you weren't still having symptoms! Gheesh. It is frustrating when doctors won't LISTEN. I'm glad going gluten-free has helped you. It can take a long time for the gut to heal after you gluten-free. Gentle stretching and exercise may help with some of the stiffnness.
