I have an Advent 4211, and I'm extremely fond of it. Alas, it came with a 3-cell battery. I found a seller on ebay who supplies more powerful 9-cell batteries for this model. Im wondering if it's safe to use a larger capacity battery on the 4211. How long will a 9-cell last on one charge? Im assuming 3 to 4 hours.
Advent is an OEM brand owned by PC World, who are arguably the largest high street PC seller in the UK. - Hardly 'desperate'
The Advent 'branded' MSI is cheaper than the true MSI, simply because MSI hike the price of their own brand. And of couse take their product to market first, a little before they offer the OEM out to the other manufacturers.
Yeah mainly because they keep selling other peoples machines, they may be the highest street seller, but its pretty much a fact that advent produce low quality machines with a high failure rate, everyone knows that.
They tend to favor the acer range, but they also have a fairly common problem in which the cpus spike alot of the time to 99% (its reported everywhere) and bios updates havent done that much either.
Well thankfully with the 4211, they chose to use a well put together machine being the MSI Wind, & simply re-badge it with a different colour chasis only. :-)
i cant decide weather to get the wind or 4211c, i like the 4211c because its silver and black plus great priced the wind is little bit more but you get a great computer, but i dont like the fact its all 1 colour.
hi i noticed that you posted this video quite a long time ago but i still hope you get to read this ... i have the asus eee pc notebook right now but iam planning to sell it and buy the msi wind U100 instead... will it be a good choice?? is the msi wind better?
Well the advent only has a 80geg hardisk and 540mb ram! The new Msi wind has 160geg harddisk (THATS DOUBLE!) it also has a new 2geg ram and a 6 cell battery!
I got my Advent 4211 in a Dublin branch of Dixons last week and paid 399.99 euro for it. Thats 351.00 in UK sterling. We are so being ripped off in Ireland. But I love the laptop. Its so neat and quick. I reccommend this laptop to everyone
If you had gone to PCWorld you could have got it for 379.99 euro! I bought one from PCWorld the day they came into stock and paid 399.99 euro. The next day I was buying something else and saw they had been reduced to 379.99 euro. They refunded me the 20.
Forgot to mention..........you can get another battery anyway at parts master for £33.75 and it will STILL beat the spec and price of most of the other netbooks out there!
Got to PC World and get it price matched to their PC World business site. I got mine for £218 inc VAT !! - Also extra for 1gb more ram and 250gb hdd with a total price of £272!!
Downsides of this laptop is battery life of around 3hrs, poor speaker quality (doesnt really matter though) and no screen latch. Otherwise, for that price you cant go wrong.
Also heard that MSI will release a 6 cell battery for their new model!!
speakers are crap and battery life on advent not great i got mine on first days of release a4211 that is. sold it a few weeks later as i need a umpc tablet with better speakers sound is just awful everything else is okay
The reason the Wind is more expensive at this time was because the Wind wasn't released, so having to preorder it is ALWAYS more expensive with anything you buy...
thanks for this. you lost me a bit at the end - are you saying we could use the money saved on an advent buy buying an msi wind battery? cheers for the clarification. Also i've heard they come with a very heavy power brick and lead - is that true? how heavy is very heavy! thanks
mizanaliashraf well done for tracking one down. Posh Kensington eh!! - did you know that in Burger King in Kensington they sell a burger called 'The Burger' for £95.00!!!
i finally got my advent 4211 last week from pc world in kensington. im using it right now. i must say i really like it. its better than i thought it would be.
Curry's in Enfield is where I found some in stock.
Am using it now to type this, am very pleased with the purcahse, I don't think I could have lived with the eee c 901 due to the tiny keys on the keyboard
I think the Advent uses a cheaper make of RAM and a cheaper hard-drive (making internal component compromises) to lower the price and possibly along with the absence of the MSI badge. That's what I heard somewhere.
Thanks for the review. I too have found it impossible w/c 14/07/08 to purchase the 4211 via PC World all over London. I purchased one today via Curry's (owned by PC World I think - or vice virsa?) - hope you will have some luck in finding one.
You sneaky bugger! I saw you check your hand.. Twice! You should remember these things.. or put them on a piece of paper out of view.. ;)

The advent has 1GB ram its never had 540mb. Only recently can you get the MSi for £295 with 120GB hard drive. but it doesnt have 2GB for that price.
ojideagu 3 years ago
The Advent with 120GB is available for 274. So its still £20 cheaper then the MSI for the same specs.

does anyone know any website/shop in the UK where I could get a 6-hour battery life battery for my Advent 4211?
vasilibaev 3 years ago
Hi watchtheskies,
Yes it does have a spare sodimm slot. I upgraded mine by adding another 1gb pc6400 sodimm module so it now has 2gb.
You have to take the whole bottom cover off to get to the spare slot though. there is around 10 screws.
hope that helps
