First heard them perform June '67 from outside the Cafe Wha? in NYC. Tried, but couldn't get in (only 16). But they left the doors open and the sounds coming out onto the street and the scene on the street was so amazing.
omg, I've nevere seen a live video about him.. like , I've seen crosstown traffic video, but he is not really playing much there... this is like the first :) love him .. he's a fucking genius :)
Mitch Mitchell...one of the top 5 greatest drummers ever. Have you ever heard a band do a cover of Fire good? I haven't. Always lacks in the percussion department.
@danielltaylor Yeah, Mitch Mitchel is definitely severely underrated. Eern the Band of Gypsies versions of Fire aren't as good percusivel, because buddy Miles is clearly not as good a drummer as Mitch. Listen to the BBC 'Radio One, version if you haven't; the drumming is actually much better than the 'Are You Experienced?' verion.
@danielltaylor Even more telling is that you never hear anyone get near to doing the drums for Hey Joe like Mitch does either. The drum grooves and the chops on that song are epic and the guy was only like 19!!
wow man what a great video. i wish my friends and i could have seen this back when this was happening but it just wasnt possible. all we had was ed sullivan and hollywood palace and shindig and hulubaloo and shit like that. whatever. we also had acid :D
This just melts my heart - I worked at at a club called Blaises, which was where Jimi first played (according to newspapers)....he was stunning................
Even as he was starting out on his meteoric rise and amazing career as rock's most innovative and exciting guitarist, he had the licks, those weird delicious licks that set the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up!!! He was a one-off.
He did a couple of tracks that were ok but i could'nt stand all the stupid feed back and setting fire to the gear.. pathetic.. like townsend smashing his guitar up, fucking idiot or moon kicking his drums all over the place... when you look back they were crap. I was in London when the stones played hide park.. I lasted 20 minutes and had to leave because they were absolute shite.. so far out of tune and jaggers voice was a joke, mind you it still is..utter crap, the who, utter crap..etc, etc
@bensooty1 listen to hear my train a comin the blues album version. the electric one because there are two on that album. u might change ur mind about feedback. maybe not
@NANDO218 dont get me wrong, i did enjoy some of hendrix music, its just that i cannot stand stupid and cringeworthy things when it comes to stage performance.. whats clever about setting fire to a guitar (fender strat) at that or smashing up a marshall stack or guitar!! no sense in it plus it has nothing to do with music..
@bensooty1 yea i see what ur saying. he did it as a sacrifice to his fans though. not todo cool things. he was saying "im here for you guys" everyone else does stuff like that to be impressive. he said that de did it to sacrifice something he loves for the people. or something to that effect. its a shame people remember him for things like that though and not why he did and said some things. towards the end of his career he said wasnt about gimmicks anymore. he was about the message
@bensooty1 Music is an art and that was his way of expressing his talent on stage as an artist would do on canvase therefore there was a lot of sense what he did on stage. You must have read him wrong.
It strikes me now for the first time - how young he was when he did all these good music!! OMG, he's just a boy actually!! Jimi Hendrix.. a great artist :)
@ethayer1 you truly have a gift. your humor, your phrasing, your anarchistic antagonism and the subtlety with which you convey wit with the edge of belligerence; you raise the level of internet posting to high art. truly a comedic genius, dare i say poet, artist, rebel. someday you will be remembered as one of the greats of internet commentary. you raise above sir, as a giant, demanding respect for himself and all others with severe mental retardation. you are gift to us all.
I don't know why it says March 18th, (probably that's when it aired considering that the single Purple Haze was to be released on the 17th) but this was actually recorded on March 2nd, 1967 for the Beat Club TV show. They did 2 takes of Hey Joe and 2 takes of Purple Haze. You have to remember that in England they do dates day/month/year instead of how we do it in the U.S. Month/Day/Year. This is the 1st time the Experience appear on television and there's 15 total minutes recorded from that date
@DoctorBohr Fail you have no idea :D this is early hendrix ,liste to the winterland version of hey joe it goes liek 6 minutes with an really nice intro... jimi is THE man

I was at Jimi's last concert on Fehnmarn Island. The concert was delayed because Jimi got into a fight with a business partner on-stage in front of a huge European audience. It went on for hours. Finally, Jimi smoked a couple of joints, got up & played!
@SIMKINETICS hey im from germany! how was this concert?? was he in form? some people say his late perfomances are not that good ... but i think they are good , like filmore east or rainbowbridge...
@kimmedavid Hi friend! I lived in Gelnhausen, near Hanau. Where do you live? The concert was good, despite cold, rainy weather. Jimi was not in best form until he warmed up for an hour or two & had some more 'refreshment'! I couldn't judge his playing against his other live concerts because it was my first & his last, but his playing was supernatural. I sometimes wonder if it was real, but have a few photos to remind me that it was real! Jimi was the best guitarist & audio genius ever!
@SIMKINETICS im from hannover , the cold rainy weather sounds typical german ... even if jimi was not in his best form ,hes still better then the rest of us :D he was a real music genuis like beethoven was on the piano !i think he was the best musician of the last 100years...:P anyway have a nice day ;)
@kimmedavid Thanx! Yeah, Jimi will go down into the history books. He was one-of-a-kind. Have a great day yourself. BTW, I might be going to Germany again for the first time in 40 years! Woohoo!

how do you still not know? pills and wine, vomit? how do you drink a gallon of wine, have no alcohol content in your bloodstream and die? when you are waterboarded by the fearful fbi since he befriended the black panthers, just as the cia had Lennon shot, about to get his citizenship and a strong voice against the vietnam war (started by a staged event in the gulf of tonkin, look it up). if the cia, secret service & fbi can kill a president, you need to realize who really runs things, sadly.

@Brooks33snow yes yes finaly someone who knows how shit really goes.this guy is correct in everyway.its shocking how corrupt and controlling the music industry really is.paul mcarthy also died in a car crash and the paul mcarthy today is his twin brother.its true look it up on here you'll be shocked.
It says it was Feb, 3 1967, I was born the next day on the 4th .... 44 today,,, I was trying to hurry up and get here to make it to woodstock in 69, but had to do something else that day
Just listen to his guitar playing and words the man was a very very talented song writer, as well as, a master of feedback and out of this world guiter sounds. everytime someone plays a guitar behind their backs, teeth, between their legs or using feedback you are copying Mr. Hendrix. jimi just wanted peace and love for all....he will never be duplicated again....
@DONDIVA1969 Actually, watching this and reading interviews.... I'd say this was filmed during the DAY and was not a real "gig". The Marquee wasn't that big and the tv cameras would've gotten in the way, and the crowd was up against the stage for actual gigs there. Also, the band is restrained like they're "recording" and not trying to blow away a crowd. If it was one of the REAL gigs there, they'd be people all crammed in and around the stage.
and this performance is a bit sterile, which is what happens when you're FILMING and not in front of a real audience. (Note the shot of a handful of people standing around. If it was the real gigs it'd be impossibly backed according to everyone who was at those real gigs.)
92% of teenagers have turned to Hip Hop and Pop.If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos.
he probably did use flat wounds at some point all guitarists experiment with different stuff pedals amps etc .remember at one point hendrix used a vox wah wah at berkerley look it up and early on he used fender amps he changed his equipment
He actually did use flatwounds, you can see them on most of his guitars that are on display. there is one of his guitars at the hard rock cafe in orlando, it has flatwounds. plus if you look into it more you will see. I'm actually sure he used the other kind as well, but he used flatwounds the most
yes but those are just strings on a guitar they arent necessarily the ones he used like 40 years ago!!
Btw i went to rock n roll hall of fame in ohio and they have 3 of his guitars, the acoustic one he used on angel and the white reverse strat of woodstock and a other one that was random and they were all normal nickel rock n roll strings by fender it sais it on all the pages i found too
Jimi almost always used Fender F-150 strings, but of course he experimented with other gauges too. Fender F-150's are round wound, pure nickel strings and gauged from .010 to .038. Making his fatter strings thinner than most sets of .010 gauge strings. This information is based on Jimi's main tech guy, Roger Mayer, he Invented the Octavia. He said Jimi, had to have thin stings on low strings to get the best sound from the Fuzz's of the day and still retain the low frequencies Jimi loved.
Call me crazy, I don't give a fuck. I think people like Hendrix, MLK, Morrison so on and so forth were killed because they involked thinking in masses of regular people. They had a certin amount of control over people, power if you will. These people spoke about how bad we are being used and fucked by are goverments and the rich. The bible says the truth will sit us free.
What do you mean, ur one of those? I'm just saying what I think, I'm not a bible thumper at All I'm a freak, but hey, look at what the fuck is going on today, not much different than yesterday. It's all a circle of BullShit & Money, thats all it's about.
i just dont get the point of ur argument, so ur sayng that jim morrison and jimmy hendrix were killed out of this conspiracy theory, because their music controled masses?
i read about this concert in lemmys biography he was his roadie at the time and he says after jimi played this concert they both took about 5 tabs each and lied in the middle of the stage all night just laughing at each other lol. the 60s were crazy, RIP JIMI
you can't be that lacking in critical thinking man...its almost like the word "conspiracy" puts up a gigantic wall of perceptive filters for a lot of you guys.
Calisthenics101 is on point, although his spelling skills aren't perfect, so what?
is it still a conspiracy when the official Coroner who did Jimi's autopsy testifies to the fact that he had almost a gallon of wine in the lungs yet nearly nothing to show for it in his blood? he did say that Jimi was "drowned in red wine", not vomit.
So is this the oldest footage of the "Experience"??

Just listen to his guitar playing and words the man was a very very talented song writer, as well as, a master of feedback and out of this world guiter sounds. everytime someone plays a guitar behind their backs, teeth, between their legs or using feedback you are copying Mr. Hendrix. jimi just wanted peace and love for all....he will never be duplicated again....

DONDIVA1969 1 year ago
@DONDIVA1969 Actually, watching this and reading interviews.... I'd say this was filmed during the DAY and was not a real "gig". The Marquee wasn't that big and the tv cameras would've gotten in the way, and the crowd was up against the stage for actual gigs there. Also, the band is restrained like they're "recording" and not trying to blow away a crowd. If it was one of the REAL gigs there, they'd be people all crammed in and around the stage.
TouchingYou 1 year ago
and this performance is a bit sterile, which is what happens when you're FILMING and not in front of a real audience. (Note the shot of a handful of people standing around. If it was the real gigs it'd be impossibly backed according to everyone who was at those real gigs.)

pentas 2 years ago
could be possible, flat wound strings were common then.
pentas 2 years ago
Hendrix used flatwound strings. there was no specific brand, just a type.
fender7axe7weilder09 2 years ago
no he didnt use flatwounds is that a joke@!
irockyouroll 2 years ago
He actually did use flatwounds, you can see them on most of his guitars that are on display. there is one of his guitars at the hard rock cafe in orlando, it has flatwounds. plus if you look into it more you will see. I'm actually sure he used the other kind as well, but he used flatwounds the most
fender7axe7weilder09 2 years ago
yes but those are just strings on a guitar they arent necessarily the ones he used like 40 years ago!!
Btw i went to rock n roll hall of fame in ohio and they have 3 of his guitars, the acoustic one he used on angel and the white reverse strat of woodstock and a other one that was random and they were all normal nickel rock n roll strings by fender it sais it on all the pages i found too
but what you said might be possible? peace
irockyouroll 2 years ago

The bible says the truth will sit us free.

crazy, ur one of those that bealive the bible because the bible says so, good job circular argument all along.

shaserv 2 years ago 2
i just dont get the point of ur argument, so ur sayng that jim morrison and jimmy hendrix were killed out of this conspiracy theory, because their music controled masses?
rwasta7007 2 years ago
Yep, thats what I'm saying. You understand. But thats what I think, it's not even an argument, it's just what I think. You understand.

For fuck sake!! Why all these conspiracy theories!! 'Calisthenics101' shows how much you know, you can't even spell his name right! R.I.P Hendrix
jcwrightson 3 years ago
you can't be that lacking in critical thinking man...its almost like the word "conspiracy" puts up a gigantic wall of perceptive filters for a lot of you guys.
Calisthenics101 is on point, although his spelling skills aren't perfect, so what?
is it still a conspiracy when the official Coroner who did Jimi's autopsy testifies to the fact that he had almost a gallon of wine in the lungs yet nearly nothing to show for it in his blood? he did say that Jimi was "drowned in red wine", not vomit.

do you think that brian jones death and janis joplin and jim morrison were all suspicious as well? I always kind of felt so, even Lennon's death
GreenyMcFleetwood 2 years ago
well, off the top of my head, I say yes, a couple of those are highly sketchy death scenes.
Brian Jones, because somebody confessed to killing him on his death bed.
Jim Morrison because there is no autopsy, nor was anybody allowed to see his dead body. he also knew he was "next", which is why he fled to Paris.
Lennon himself said if anything happened to him, to be suspicious. I personally believe Mind Control played a role.
Joplin, idk...
and Jimi, I just got done talking about his death.
