to all of you who are complaing about nightmare before Christmas remember there are more then the 22 he has talked about in the show and it's his opinion and he might see nightmare before christmas as a halloween film, maybe this year in 2012 he will do another list including it but to me a see it more as a halloween movie because i think that's what tim burton was going for rather then a christmas movie
would you believe the events of Joyeux Noël was true............. no really it happened i learned it in school both sides decided to stop fighting for christmas and they was playing football, laughing, talking eating together, then after christmas one side wrote merry christmas on a white flag and the other side wrote merry christmas to you too and the war resumed.
Probably wouldn't have picked Die Hard as No. 1, but it's definitely on my list, because...well, y'know... IT'S DIE HARD!
Joyex Nöel sounds like a movie I need to see, but I don't know if I'm looking forward to it - I'm a very emotional person and don't like sad movies. And it's a WW1 movie... (which means you know all the characters you connect with will probably die sometime later in the war).
@Leatherbubba If you're looking for chrimbo horror films, I'd advise you also check out "Don't Open Till Christmas" (a british horror film), tales from the crypt's "And All Through the House", "To All a Goodnight" and "Silent Night, Bloody Night" (NO, not the film you mentioned, this is a different one). Also, there's a couple of others but they're rather mediocre.
When I first saw this, I raised an eyebrow when he chose Die Hard, but when he defended his choice with "Fuck you, ITS DIE HARD!" You really can't argue against that.
I just finished The Nativity Story. He's completely right about the rushed spiritual aspect of the film. The angel's speech is cut off in the middle when he comes to Joseph in a dream!! There's also no choir of angels appearing to the shepherds so that's a little disappointing. That being said, it is a good movie, you should definitely check it out.
You know considering the choices, they were good, but sorry if im lime the billionth person saying this, why wouldint he add tim burtons nightmare before christmas? Its a vlassic movie, that as far as i can remember had been shown in both halloween AND christmas, also to add he added the 'this is halloween' song in his top 11 mind f@?k's, just makes me think, like why not? You know...... But lol fuck you, it's die heart :D
Well, If it does make you feel any better about 'The Snowman', there was a special made by the same guy called 'Father Christmas', which is set a Year later (I think) and at one part; he meets the Boy and the Snowman again and says "Glad you can make it again...The party I mean..."
So, if it offers any happiness, we can safely say the Boy was able to rebuild him... ;3
Actually in the Holy Bible it does address Joseph's reaction to Mary being pregnant, its says he was a God fearing and kind man and was just gonna divorce her quietly so the people didnt stone her. I'm suprised more nativity movies dont address that.
Another good Christmas movie that I ADORE and not many people know about is a little gem called The Ref, with Denis Leary. Trading Places is another enjoyable Christmas movie. But, I agree with the Critic on #1. Fuck you, it's Die Hard!!!
So the Director of Nativity, a movie about our lord and savior is also the director of Twilight a movie about gay vampires.... God's not pleased with that.
If Christmas ever went back to that Jesus-loving retardation, I would literally stop celebrating it. I like it as a gift giving, fun time of year with family, not anything religious.
Many people consider Nightmare Before Christmas to be more so of a Halloween movie, due to the story, for the most part, taking place in Halloweentown and involving the creatures of Halloween. It IS a Christmas/Halloween crossover, but is typed as a 'Halloween' movie.
Isnt Joyeux Noël also called Merry Christmass? I saw the cover in a video store and the synopsis was the same as the nostalgia critic says but the name is Merry Christmass
@srnefe It's French for 'Merry Christmas', and also I think the critic pronounced the name wrong, then again... it's a 'tomato/tomato' thing. But yeah, 'Joyeux Noel' is personally my number 1 favourite christmas film.
The Nativity Story? Seriously? I hate that movie. It gets alot of things wrong such as Joseph's character who would never stone Mary. He doubted whether she sinned or not and it BUTCHERS Mary's character. She isn't a whiny, sulky, unbelieving bitch, She has total faith in God, knows He loves her, is very devout, spent her childhood studying in the temple of Jerusalem and is an all round sweet, kind and lovable woman. You need a person who at least knows about Christianity to direct such a film.
I love the Nickelodeon Christmas specials, too. The Spongebob one is okay, the Rugrats ones are classic, but the one that always gets to everyone is the Hey Arnold! Christmas special. The "Merry Christmas, Arnold" at the end...*sniff*.
Die Hard is SO Christmasy! Theres red and twinkling lights everywhere! Red blood and the flashing lights of sub machine guns?! What else says christmas like that?
This list is well done and everything, but where the f*** is Nightmare Before Christmas? I don't expect it to be #1 or anything, but SOMEWHERE on the list would be nice.
@SJTreeHugger i think the reason it wasn't was because, like my self, NC probably saw it as more of a Halloween movie than a Christmas movie. I watch it on halloween every year, but never really find myself in the mood to watch it for christmas.
Freude schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, wir betreten feuertrunken Himmlische dein Heiligtum. Deine Zauber binden wieder, was die Mode streng geteilt. Ale Menschen werden Brüder wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt!
"Joyeux Noel" is such a brilliant film. You really do get the emotional feeling when all sides agree to stop fighting and become friends. That is the true meaning of christmas :)
Why are people annoyed that NC missed a lot of specials? He can't mention them all, while many of them aren't even Nostalgic. A recent special I've seen was in Community, and while the series sort of bores me I LOVED the special. It had the meaning of Christmas with almost every perspective; even cynics got limelight. It was great, but certainly not Nostalgic.
Every year, my family gets together to watch the Nativity. My dad has a version with the innocent Massacre, and I was freak'n SEVEN! It was traumatizing to see a little kid, who was just sitting there, who had to be just a few years younger than I was, and see a roman on a horse ride up and impale the kid with his spear! And breaking into a house and killing a baby? I know that's how it literaly happened, but really? It was R-rated, and my dad could have had a little more sense!
Well since you like Die hard as a Christmas movie, then what about the Godfather? People always say that is a Holiday classic. Yea, nothing says Christmas like men beating their wives with belts, getting shot with Tommy Guns, and finding the severed head of your prized horse in bed with you.
I'm surprised that the ending of The Snowman didn't make it on the list of Saddest Nostalgic Moments. I can remember crying at the end of the film. But it's still incredibly beautiful!
Those Yoda interruptions are actually pretty creepy now that NC has already reviewed Star Wars Christmas. It's like we know what he's gonna have to endure. lol
@XxusagibunnyxX A lot people really do debate this movie. Some consider it a Halloween movie while others consider it a Christmas Movie. I consider it both, I watch it around Halloween and Christmas.
@XxusagibunnyxX yeah, where's that at?! i watch it every year, halloween and christmas. what the hell NC, you even said it was good, so why not in this countdown?
But that's okay. I still enjoyed the movie, and I love sitting around the fire with family on Christmas Eve to watch one of the few Christmas specials that actually shows children the true meaning of Christmas.
@GoldenFlither15 Oh I love it too... but I think the director should stop directing films like Twilight and do some wholesome movies..like Nativity Story.
I think she directed Red Riding Hood and I heard that was just as bad as Twilight.
@BelovedCaptain Oh man, avoid 'Red Riding Hood' at all costs. It really does make the 'Twilight' movies look like 'Casablanca' (which is an exaggeration, but hopefully my point's clear).
I totally agree. Wouldn't you say it's kind of ironic as well? From a story so holy and sacred as that of the Nativity, to a story so evil - in every sense of the word - as 'Twilight'? I thought that was kind of interesting. ;)

I can't BELIEVE that the same director who directed Nativity Story did Twilight.
It really depresses me....

@BelovedCaptain I know, I thought that too.

BelovedCaptain 7 months ago
@BelovedCaptain Oh man, avoid 'Red Riding Hood' at all costs. It really does make the 'Twilight' movies look like 'Casablanca' (which is an exaggeration, but hopefully my point's clear).
I totally agree. Wouldn't you say it's kind of ironic as well? From a story so holy and sacred as that of the Nativity, to a story so evil - in every sense of the word - as 'Twilight'? I thought that was kind of interesting. ;)

@GoldenFlither15 Interesting? You're too kind. :) It's pathetic.

@BelovedCaptain *laughs* Touche.

@BelovedCaptain Same here. How do you go from making something as amazing as the Nativity Story to Twilight? It's worst than Don Bluth.

What's the song used when the Critic talks about the Nativity Story?
BigDC100 7 months ago
@BigDC100 It's from the Nativity Story soundtrack. It's a rendition of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel."
