I was just wondering i havent seen a video from this dude in ages and lo and behold you had mysteriously disappeared from my subs! Weird. Youtube madness.
I also got a 2011MBP but i opted for the standard 2.2, 7200RPM (later switched to a Vertex 3) and the AG HR screen instead. Also skipped Applecare (stuck with the standard 3yr education warranty)
i have the 13' MBP mid 2009 and im thinking of buying the MBP 15' core i7 mid 2010 2nd hand. well i really need the screen size upgrade. Congrats on your new purchase and hope you like the sandybridge processor. Cheers - Akmal
@kingmadzz I love my K-Lock. I have had roommates steal my my shiz before, but they cant get something that is tied to the desk with a steel cable. Must be nice not to have security concerns.
I got the new power adapter with the new style magsafe after needing to replace my old one. The newer one is very good and I dont see it being "easy" to fall off. Seems just right.
Slight annoyance is if you put it lengthways towards you, it covers the ethernet port. So I end up having a strange twist because of how it needs to be plugged in.
just did geekbench with the same specs as you. I upgraded to 16gig memory and 400gb SSD from macsales.com. my geekbench was 12,567. Youtube to follow.
when i didnt see the apple stickets i was immediatly worried - then you pulled them out and there was a sigh of relief also the windows fist boot up is boring and so long. the mac one is so much quicker and easier! cant wait to get one and ditch my pc forever :D
First boots on Windows are always slower than first boots of Macs. After that anyways, Macs boot up really fast because they don't have the long BIOS POST of a Windows PC.
I have the new MBA 11" and hated the new magsafe charger, the angle are weird and not efficient compared to the old one and the new material that Apple use on the wall charger adapter captor doesn't feel comfortable like the old one.
Starcraft is a brilliant game...however if you care about your college life DON'T BUY IT!!! It takes over your life!!!!! (literally) It ruined my 2nd year of college (and still is ruining it)
But mistake spending the extra $174, should have invested in a high end SSD. By doing this could have saved for a 256GB SSD third party not from apple, EG new Intel SSD range or a new sandforce SSD
the opening video should be the same.. it's still mac os x.. at least from what i can understand.. i agree tho the mac os xi boot is going to be interesting..
Plus, according to Intel's site, the 2.3GHz core i7M supports up to 1600Mhz memory, while the 2.2GHz quad i7M only supports 1333MHz. I'll be upgrading my mid 2010 MacBook Pro (Dual-core i7) next refresh. Hopefully, they'll have a new design.
My 13.3 Macbook (year old) had the new MagSafe.. takes a bit to adjust to.. but it is an improvement, (magnets are just as strong). Your videos give me all the info I need. Thanks from Canada.
The Ethernet port is only used when a wireless modem needs to be setup.. but that's it.
My 13.3 Macbook (year old) had the new MagSafe.. takes a bit to adjust to.. but it is an improvement, (magnets are just as strong). Your videos give me all the info I need. Thanks from Canada.
In regards to the whole "my PC boots up faster" thing. To them I say "I never turn my Mac off, it comes out of sleep instantly when I need it to". They usually have no come back to that because Windows tends to be hit and miss with sleep/hibernate mode lol. It can take as long to come out of sleep as it does to boot up from being off.
@bigdima3 SSD's are very expensive if you want a decent capacity. They're fine for desktops using smaller drives, but for laptops, not so much. Unless you take out the optical drive and add a second drive, but I wouldn't bother until it's out of warranty incase something goes belly up!
@TalesOfWar I wouldnt say they're expensive, they're far cheaper than they used to be. I saw Intel 80gb SSD for just over 100 quid. In this case im sure you know that one SSD with a slower CPU will impress you more than a faster CPU with HDD.
@bigdima3 For the amount of storage you get they're expensive. 80GB is nothing these days, especially for laptops that you use as a laptop. It's fine if you're always using it at a desk or something and put your extra files onto an external drive, or in a desktop where you can use both at the same time, but when you're moving it about the extra space takes priority for most people most of the time.
@TalesOfWar You are right, but at the same time, even if you had a large SSD you would still not want to save large files on it) it would be a waste of high performance space. So yeah. what you said about replacing a CD drive with HDD would be a good option.
Hey DRB, not sure if you knew this already but the Apple Care Education situation is different to what you explained.
If you buy a MacBook Pro with education discount, you automatically get a 3-year warranty for free. The price of the "Apple Care" is heavily discounted because you're not actually paying for the warranty, just for the phone support!
Hope I sorted that out! - Just getting my MacBook Pro unboxing ready myself! :)
What you need to keep in mind is that the 550D doesn't autofocus during video recording. So if you hold stuff up to the camera. It will be blurry. You will either need to manually focus and just edit it so it's seamless.
Happy for you mate, at least you bought one when you needed it, as i don.t understand the people that feel the need to upgrade every upgrade. At least you see the difference from you older mac. Enjoy and well done. P.S by the way a lot of people are stunting buying their macs on Hp thats why they upgrade every year. Enjoy the mac. Like your vids mate. Work hard and you get nice products!! NO MORE WINDOWS FOR ME
If I honestly had the time, I would so love doing a DRBUK montage where i'd take clips of your videos where you say "I dont have time, busy with uni" lol. Jokes aside, the MBP must be absolutely screaming compared to your MB. Hopefully we can now see more videos, hope you like this formula: new MBP = larger screen = easier to edit + beastly processor = faster exporting.
Hey Adrian a great video would be for you to compare Starcraft II on bootcamp vs Mac OSX. I found on my 2010 MBP 15" that Starcraft runs way better on bootcamp. The game runs noticeably better in windows for me.
me too.... i was thinking of getting an iMac, but problem is, is that I travel wayyyy too much.... would be weird to take a 42lbs(20kg) box thats 30"x24"x9" on an airplane or to vacation or a lab
@beleafer22 but he would have gotten windows 7 ... which is a failure and ridden with viruses ... a system thats fully integrated and made to work with the software will always work better, faster and more efficient (OSX) then one which has software and hardware made separately (windows)
