But always remember this, Marines die, that's what we're here for, but the Marine Corps lives forever and that means you live forever! ........R. Lee Ermey
Great video, girl killed it though right when she started singing, bugged the shit out of me. Your grandfather was a good man, a good Marine. Semper Fi
My grandpa's funeral was today. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He was cremated so we had to do it at the funeral home also. The 21-gun salute, it's an amazing honor to see that, but boy, did I start bawling afterwards. <3 SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.
The saluting of the flag at 2:56 just brought tears to my eyes. The sacrifice was not forgotten. Thanks to your grandpa and grandma from me, a free man.
You are kind to share this both personal and public respect for a life well-lived. Thanks, to your grandfather, now passed, for his service. It hurts to read a disrespectful response to your little cousin's sweet voice. Is it possible to delete those comments? She has such a clear, loving voice, for an occasion of sorrow and family unity. Again, thank you, for sharing your family's ceremony. God bless.
R.I.P to this brave well trained soldier that help during WWll ....Ur Grandpa will never be forgotton in history or any of the soldiers of the UNITED STATES MILITARY that served during that time...."ONCE A MARINE ALWAYS A MARINE"....
@orcustrex Its a lil gril for crying out loud..show some respect sir...It doesnt matter if it wasnt the "correct" version...dont hate her for loving someone that died fighting for our country..
hey for all of you who are complaining about the singing, maybe it was requested by him. personally if my flag happens to be folded someday i have a request for bagpipes to play from the halls of montezuma while dressed in my clans tartan. just because you dont like doesnt mean they didnt. but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion right?
Honor Guard did some things wrong but still good i do know some units are taught different things. hence why i say that they did some things wrong because my unit does it different.
The SS stands for scout sniper. Those were scout snipers with the 1st Recon marines.
This is always a touching moment, and I'm just throwing out my opinion here, and I don't want to offend FGxRaptor but that was a really bad version of Amazing Grace. That song was my grandfather's favorite song that got him through WWII. He was a Corpsman and he told me every Sunday morning he'd sing that song and he told me if you're gonna sing it, sing it right. Good job to her, anyway.
@warblerab There are so many different situations, I'm Air Force honor guard, i've done plenty of funerals just like this (actually doing a 21 guns salute next to a road as well) and plenty of funerals at the grave site. it just depends where the family requests you to be.
the two marines folding the flag did it wrong i believe, they did not come down together when they secured the end of the flag, while the flag folder was folding they did not keep tension on the flag and let the flag sag in the middle which makes the flag folding look bad, and the detail leader on the stars did not hold the flag even with the flag folder making it look even worse, and the detail leader also presented the flag with the point facing the next to kin which is a no go.
CHARDI Taps does have words to it. and no Mrjonny it is not disrespectful to open an already folded flag. A flag that is at the funeral is foldeded by the funeral home. We come and re fold for the cermony. It would be weird if the honor guard just showed up and prestented a already folded flag.
FYI there is no need for music when the folding of the flag has its own meaning. Each fold represents something. Taps would have been more appropriate because there are no words.
@gizzmo91569 Taps is a bugle call, not a song. Taps is "sounded" not "played". Although people over the years have come up with various wording for the notes in Taps, officially, by the book, there are no words to Taps and shouldn't be.
I had never seen this in person until my grandfather's funeral. He is a veteran from WW2. That ceremony really struck me, and was a perfect and fitting part of his funeral.
I am an honor guard member for my fire department in Nashua NH. We currently don't have any ceremony for folding a flag, but after witnessing this type of ceremony I am working on it.
