True, the Tiger sharks also go for the turtles over our snorkelers. (S. Maui, Hawaii)

Saw a huge turtle with its shoulder ripped off... many snorkelers in shallow water were right there watching an eagle ray at the time, in 4 to 5 feet of water.

A guy was bitten in the arse a few years ago, though... he was floating on his back in deep water, napping.

Sharks like great white r bigger and more likely to aim for the surfer since the great white hunt seals not like the tiger shark. They mistakenly go for surfer for their general shape of their prey,seals, and that is why shark attacks r happening and closer to the shore as well. Not all sharks like tiger and Great white r like that since the nurse shark r bottom feeders and bite to defend themselves.

One thing still that makes me skeptical is the fact that the shark would actually attack the weakest of the two, thus the sea turtle due to its size coz the surfer was way bigger...just a thought though

the international shark attack file counts 6 to 8 fatalities a year.... how can they say that tiger sharks kill dozens of ppl a year if there are less then 10 fatalities caused by all species of shark together?

And the real reson for shark attacks is the sound that swimmers make (semilar to the sound of wounded fish or sth else) combined with bad visibility in the water and dirsturbing sounds from motor boats etc

The International files only account for attacks that are proven conclusively to be by a specific species based on, say, tooth fragments embedded in bone. As for the dozens killed each year, many of those reports are substantiated as shark attacks, but with no conclusive species.
