@chrismoore10049 I also have a 06 Sierra 2500HD with 30k miles on it. That truck has been ok except for the rusty ass frame, constantly burning out blower motors, almost rusted through brake lines, front diff leaks, coolant leaks from hoses. Took it to the dealer and they said all of that is normal. I plan on selling that and getting another "Tonka" (its an appropriate nick name) truck. I have 264k miles on my 99 4Runner and not one issue. I have seen the light and will only buy Toyota.
@chrismoore10049 real truck HA them heavy long wide Hunks of shit could never go through what Toyotas do i had an 87 Toyota pickup for ever, sold it to a friend and it still runs to this day 375k miles + and will go through things Chevy and Dodge could only dream of, i know because there was never a time in my Toyota would get stuck and not get back out under its own power no towing no winch! only Toyota Beastlyness and some 31'' All Terrain T/A's you my friend have never driven a Toyota!
@chrismoore10049 dont listen to those other assholes bashin on the greatest trucks ever made, Chevy. But, if you havent noticed gas and diesel prices are risin and diesel is even higher than gas and this little tonka toy gets close to 20 mpg while your duramax gets 12-14 mpg. Save the Duramax for pullin heavy loads that the little old Toyota cant pull.
me and my wife bought toyotas brand new back in 94 i bought the pickup with the 22re in it and she bought the 4runner with a 3.0L. hers has (or should say had) about 180k on it before it bit the dirt. i got about 422k on the truck and it still runs like when i bought it never had it in the garage for anything but an oil change. goes to prove the old saying. toyota built a legend with the 22r. but they made a legend even better with the 22re
@manisdrillingcompany yours isnt a V4.... no such thing unless you have an outboard motor under the hood.... I have the 22re which is a inline 4. ( I-4)
only v-4 ive ever seen was one made by lancia...forgot what it was in but i have no idea the point in it besides some crazy italian figured out that a v-4 sounds sweet..
@313foxbody420 mine is a 2.7L 4 cylinder its a 90 horsepower motor mine cent go offroad unless i put it in 4L because the gear ratio is to high it doesnt have any power
nah dude the 2.7 is closer to the ol' 3.0 v6. i think its off by like 5 lb-ft of torque. so go outside, and do er' up. no excuses, i just hammered down on a dodge 5.9 and i had fun. so go ahead, and "go offroad" fucking wheel that shit up.
@313foxbody420 i take mine offroad everyday and if i want to even go up a hill i have to put in 4L i got good mud brute tires on it but its just got to high gear ratio and does not have much power
About 95% of Toyota trucks came with 28" tires and 4:10 gears.
IIRC, only the Toyota trucks or 4Runners with an Automatic Transmission and 31" tires indicated on the ID tag located on the door jam came FACTORY with 31" tires.
And make no mistake. Just b/c it has low diff gears does not mean it will pull ungodly loads and you can put 44's on it like Chevy guys with 4:10's do.
Toyota truck transmissions are geared high, almost like a car. That's why they won't pull larger tires.
Not this model, but the lesser quality, made in USA by Dana manufacturing Tacoma that came after it did.
It's the TRD option. And that diff, and that diff only can be retrofitted to the 79-94 rears, and solid axle fronts or trucks that have been modifies to use a solid axle.
I think as far as domestic trucks go I am all for domestic as the full size jap trucks cannot compete with trucks like the F250, F350 but I hate to say that the import compact trucks from japan are on par if not better than domestic Rangers, S10's etc.. Those Toyota's and Nissans can hold their own in the compact truck part.. Only thing I hate is that most imports and even chevy colorado has a full 4door option but only Euro ford Rangers can get 4 doors.. I wish ford would make a 4 door ranger.
My neighbor has a new Ford Ranger (2009) and has it in the shop 2 times now. Ignition problems and the seal on the window leaking. Never had my Toyota in the shop, except to up-grade parts and its almost 19 years old. But I think the real Japanesse built trucks are superior to the trucks today. I never see any Fords,Chevys or Dodge trucks in countries like Africa,South America,or 3rd world countries. I guess no place to service them.
k another question for ya. I just bought a yota and im gettin 24 mpg...ish with the 22re. any idea what i would be getting with 31's?(aka what are you getting for fuel mileage?)
k sounds tolerable. I can baby mine now and get 27 on a long tip without much stop and go. But i can settle for 24. I think im putting 31-10.5-15 adventuro mt's on this weekend. thanks for the help
yotaaaaaa i got the same truck only ext cab a green. i love to hate it. Pissed cause i had to buy my own rig and all my friends had theres given to them. I abuse h hell out of it but she never quitts on me
love the 22re. i have a 05 tundra now, and would stright swap for my old 22re

I love how this motor is so underpowered you have no choice but to use 4LO or else it bogs out and stalls. Still I wouldnt trade it for a 3.0

@manisdrillingcompany kid doesn't know motors. v4, i love it.
nah i really hate it, especially when people try to strike conversation with guys like us and they start with the v4 talk.
and this guy 4wheels just fine. it is a 100hp motor, so don't expect something crazy.
dude knows what he is doing, i know this because that was a nice clutch dumping technique that toyotas can handle.
