awww thats so sweet. i always pitted katherine, henry was such a jerk to her. yet through everything she always loved him, and that amazes me. today you can't find a lot of women who would be like that, she was such a forgiving and loyal partner. great job!
I love Katherine she is truly my hero. She was such an amazing women, loyal to her husband, and a great queen. Henry really messed up when he left her. I
@Silmirel because Katherine was 6 years older than Henry and by this time would have been pushing 40. She certainly wouldn't have been as beautiful as MDK portrays her at this age but in her youth she was renouned for being 'the most beautiful creature in the world'.
@innerimaginings Also back in the 1500s people didn't have make up/hair products to make them look very beautiful. Don't get me wrong the actress who plays Katherine of Argon is very beautiful but I'm sure at 40 the real queen Katherine would have been just as beautiful if it wasn't for the stress she dealt with and all the advanced technology we have now a days.
@Silmirel because Katherine was 6 years older than Henry and by this time she would have been in her late 30's and he in his early 30's. Katherine had also endured at least 6 pregnancies by now and had aged consierably and her beauty faded...she most likely wouldn't have been quite as beautiful as portrayed by MKD is in this but she was actually supposed to have been considered a very great beauty in her prime.

@Silmirel: Old comment is old, but, because, yes, historically Katherine was five years older, and in the show, Maria Doyle Kennedy is thirteen years older than Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
oh my god this clip is awsome and so true! henry did not deserve Katherine, he was lucky to have her. he should be grateful that SHE never slept around and committed treason.
I feel so bad for Queen Katherine. She'll always be my favorite wife of Henry Tudor. He didn't deserve her. If you really look at it her life is kinda like Princess Diana's life. They both really loved their husbands but in the end, they were pushed away from everyone they loved and died.
she did? Well, I've had one myself(I recovered almost miraculously) so I actually feel sorry for her now!(I had them both) which one did she have, or did she have them both?
I read somewhere that she had anorexia. I've dealt with anorexia in my life before, too. I don't remember where I read that she suffered from that, though, it was a long time ago when I read that. I also read that she had fits of melancholy and was bled by physicians when they could not get her out of these fits. So, she often looked emaciated.
I've read quite a bit about Mary Tudor and have not once read anything about her having an eating disorder. None of the Tudor ladies as far as I know had one.
Nor did Katherine have anorexia. She was just about 5 feet tall (not terribly short for the time) but she put on weight with being preggers with Mary adn her other children. She wanted to lose the weight yes but that's hardly being having an eating disorder.
beautiful video! Thanks!. In the history of Spain there is a case similar to Arthur and Catherine. The marriage between Henry IV of Castile (Isabella's brother and Catherine's uncle) and Blanche of Navarre ( Ferdinand of Aragon' s sister) was annulled after 13 years without having sexual relations....in 13 years!
ley un libro sobre ellos y no se anulo por no tener relaciones sino pork blanca era esteril (o lo era enrique ya sabes lo de la beltraneja) y no conseguian tener hijos... la pobre blanca me da mucha lastima...
And Henry i believe as well as most monarchs i believe - were surrounded by advisors.
For the record i'm not saying you are wrong about everything or even anything - i'm just saying history is inconclusive and there is very little evidence to support anything and what they do have can all be interpreted and this is the way that i have chosen to interpret Katherine - i guess i just want to believe that she was a great queen and woman like many historians write her to be!
I think we are both very passionate about this and i think it is great! i have actually enjoyed this conversation alot! I also think that neither of us is wrong or right and that we should agree to disagree on the matter.. we are each entitled to believe what we wish are we not??

And as for the pope he didn't get the job because he was an idiot and that is what he would have had to be to honestly believe that grantly an an annnulment was the wrong thing. As a result of his decision he lost all power in England, i gaurentee that was more important to him than the marriage of one person even if she was a spanish princess, the deciding factor was that her nephew was holding rome.

and her loyalty and love is seriously in question. ALL wives in tudor times ignored their husbands affairs and were loyal doing otherwise was disastorous particularly in a queen and after the divorce Katherine is believed to have been involved with 'religious fanatics' planning to usurp Henry and place Mary on the throne. That does not show much love, but it does show a desire for power. And leaving her as regent does prove anything because she was surrounded with advisers.
No the english people thought Katherine might be with child because Arthur had led them to believe they had intercourse - he was to be the next king of england why would he want people to know that they had not engaged sexually! Yes she was raised to believe she was queen and yes she was proud but SHE WAS THE QUEEN AND THERE WAS NO PROOF AGAINST HER!!
And are you kidding me she was an extremely intelligent woman and most historians believe this even one's who question Katherine! and as far as the religious fanatics are concerned in your words "is believed" again no proof.
As for Katherine and henry's relationship - They were married for 18 years before he even tried for a divorce and every single day Katherine stood by his side and went along with everything he said and you think she was not loyal and did not love him?? after at least 15 happy years there was a deep love there Henry himself said he loved Katherine and historic documents of their parties and the letters between the two prove it!
The only evidence that Arhtur said anything about them consumating the realtionship comes 20 years later from witnesses at The Legatine Trail - almost all of who were part of the Boleyn/Howard faction.
Katharine was quoted as saying she would never harm Henry or HER English subjects, she had no plans to unsurp Henry and never entertained ideas of war against him.
Katharine's love and loyalty for Henry is unquestioned...in her final letter, she forgave him for all his wrong-doings against her, said she would pray for his 'eternal soul' and finished by stating 'lastly...mine eyes desire you above all else.'

Beautiful vid and very well done but i felt it was based on a misconception about Katherine. I mean she though England was should merely be a province of spain. Had an appaling opinion of her own gender, and was practically a religious fanatic. Not to mention that there is indisputable evidence she did have a sexual relationship with Henry's brother and the only reason the pipe didn't annul the marriage was that her brother had captured rome. But she does appear rather noble in the trudors.
1)I disagree! There is little evidence to support that Katherine had a sexual relationship with Arthur. I'm not saying that their marriage wasn't consummated im just saying that there is little evidence to support that theory (personally I choose to believe Katherine because of her religious beliefs and how strongly she fought and that she continued to maintain her position on her deathbed - which in those times were considered a final confession - and for someone of her religious standing!).
2) As far as the annulment is concerned that was not granted by the pope because he believed Henry and Katherine's marriage to valid - remember Katherine and Henry received a dispensation from Rome at the beginning of their marriage to say that they were infact able to marry! It had very little (or nothing) to do with the fact her NEPHEW had captured Rome that the annulment was not granted.
3) As for her opinion of her own gender, true she played the part of a wife and mother at the Tudors standards, however she was well educated participated in politics was left as queen Regent and defeated the Scots! So I believe her to be a woman far ahead of her times as well as maintaining her social position and standing in Tudor times. After all female rights are only a fairly new concept!
Sorry it is in so many parts its just that all that wouldn't fit in one comment lol. Sorry for the big rant im just a very argumentative and opinionated person... (I'm studying law if you couldn't have guessed lol) Thankyou for your comment though :)

When Arthur died Katherine was watched closely for several months under the beleif she could be pregnant, that alone suggests that they engaged in intercourse and it would have been a great insult to spain in intercourse hadn't occured, Katerine was an exceptionally proud woman she would have said something to her spanish advisers yet no such conversation every occured. Katerine was raised to believe it was her duty to become Queen of Englan history is full of people who
Actually, it was her father Ferdinand who asked Katharine to be watched in case she was pregnant, but he had to take back these actions when Katharine's duenna told him that Katharine 'was as she left Spain' in otherwords, a Virgin.
The only ecidence against Catherine are the baised witnesses who made Catherine out to be a lying calculating whore and who weren't passed making up things about her and Arthur to discredit her.
Beautiful video! I agree with everything you said in your description, Katherine deserved so much better than what happened to her. I hope Henry eventually realized just how much he lost when he discarded her.
Thankyou! i worked really hard on this vid because i think that Katherine definitely deserves to be honoured and remembered! I agree her life was unfair and she is such a remarkable woman for how gracefully she faced everything. GOD it makes me so angry that Henry didnt realise what he had with Katherine.
