They skipped Little Baby Nothing (see the setlist at 3:04) because they were running out of time!! They should've played that one too. How can they run out of time, let them play the music, it's great!! Wish I was there...
At the risk of being thumb downed outta the building I think the crowd reaction is very telling of the manics place in the hearts of the music-enjoying public.
Compare this crowds reaction to that the 2001 (i think) Glastonbury and its frankly wierd. in 01 they were playing a headline slot with everyone jumping.
Incidently i dont agree with the manics relegation in pop culture. SATG and JFPL were both rarely excellent albums. I'm just saying the manics are over as a "popular" force.
the manics never were bothered that much about popularity like richey said they would carry on making music as long as there is one person who listens to them
i personally see what you talking about, but the 2003 performance (i believe you referring to) was perfect. Here, the mix is a bit wrong, and its not one of the best performances. I dont agree with your opinion about popularity though. Just watch the reading 08 and t in the park 09 ADFL's. epic dosent do it justice. just my opinion tho, and i still respect urs :)
i don't know its so much to do with the manics popularity that people are not jumping about anymore - i think its down to the sort of crowd you get at glastonbury these days - its more for middle age mondeo driving office workers looking for corporate entertainment rather than the "young passionate about music teens and twenty-somethings who would go a long and have a good mosh

mowtown junk you said it,,,,,,,,,, junk crap song, gay bass player, welsh singer, shit drummer, festival mustnots, dont go and see them unless they replace richy bloke, there shit without him ,,, dont be fobbed off with that shite.
If you absolutely insist on clicking on a video purely for the purpose of insulting the band in question, could you at least learn how to spell a relatively simple word like 'Motown'? I mean you've already disproved your intelligence by using 'gay' and 'welsh' as insults you don't need to do it twice over.
it mentioning it to both of u, not to cause any offense to you musicnobtobe, i cant see u've done anything wrong, but i just cant stand seeing a great songs comments turn like this. Once again, no offense meant to ur intelligence :)
Thanks. Now back on track (I hate arguments on Youtube) I'm not sure about the crowd's reaction (this isn't directed at you in turn boeingbloke) being an indicator of just how far the Manics have slipped off the radar. I think SATT and JFPL are excellent albums in very different ways and they've managed to salvage their careers. At this point (Glasto 07) they were just working their way back into the public eye. The crowds they get now are always up for it :)
It was the worst crowd I've ever seen at a concert. The manics played properly old stuff from when they were interesting and the crowd only reacted when they played yawn-tastic Forever Delayed stuff and Your Love Alone. Was a great set but the crowd were only there to wait for Kaisers. There's a small group near the front you can see jumping about, I'm proud to say I was a member of it.
Yeah, there's still a few Holy Bible tracks in the sets these days.
Sadly they're not playing near me this time. Hopefully they do another tour this year, they usually do a December tour when they announe a small summer tour like the upcoming one.
I thought they were actually a little below par at Glasto last year. Same with 'O3. They can puul off amaizing festival shows (Reading 01 springs to mind - they were stunning that night).
Bring on Satruday night at Reading - 9th time and counting.
God Like Geniuses? Nah. They're far more important :-)
he was too scared to sing 'i laughed, when lennon got shot' in motown junk, and whats with all the 'god bless you' nonsense he comes out with at every gig. i think they peaked with the bible.
Ive seen the Manics live maybe 7 or 8 times and this is the first time ive ever heard James say god bless you... as for "i laughed when lennon got shot".. JDB said after Richey left he wasnt going to sing that lyric for personal reasons...
i stand corrected, though JDB did say god bless you in norwich last year - it only winds me up cos i really like crucifix kiss. i also reckon if the manics of yesteryear could look forward and see themselves doing a cover of 'umbrella' then all of them would have gone AWOL on 01/02/95.
thats no maybe mate... they've gone commercial, no doubting that... but, just trying to line their pockets before they draw the pension... still legends and cant fault them for anything...
Its hard when you lose a person like Richey. Nicky is a decent lyricist (design for life/motorcycle emptiness etc) but he can't speak in the same way as Richie. Plus they are a lot more mature now...it is easier to say "fuck the world" etc when you are younger....but when you are heading on 40 you look a bit of a twat. The change means they a treated a bit more serious...but i fully agree, they peaked on THB but they are legends.
I don't know what he says on this recording, I think it's somrthing different but on record he says 'we live in urban hell, we destroy rock and roll.'
So 401skysports,a band get picked up by indie wannabee's and MTV and suddenly they're the greatest band ever? For headlining a few festivals? I like The Killers but they cannot touch the Manics, get real man, isten to some real music and not what "The Rock Chart" tell's you.
ive seen the killers the manics and muse numerous times...id rate them as killers 3rd..manics 2nd(my fav band) but muse put on the best live show..they were unbelievable at oxygen this yr..so were the killers..manics dont have the commercial appeal anymore to headline..
muse are waaaaaay too produced when playing live- many pre-recordeed tracks is not what a "live" show should be. i've never seen the manics, but i love them. the killers are a terrific band, and they put on a great live show.
How long have killers been around?? The Manics are still the nuts. Killers second album proves that they haven't got the consistant class that the Manics have. I've seen both bands on numerous occasions at Glastonbury. No contest as live performers. The Manics are still the dogs b*ll*cks!!
Ahh 401skysports you are the dip shit - Manics have headlined Reading and Glasto loads of times in the early Nineties and released the Holy Bible [best fucking album of all time] - Killers release the shambles that is Sam's town - ha - kindly go and fuck yourself!

ha! you have got to be joking 401skysports! the killers suck cock! the manics have a very intresting history! but i can't say i've been a fan since 'new art riot' because i wasn't even born! but i have been a fan since childhood because my cousin always played the holy bible, generation terrorists and gold against the soul, every time i was at her house! the killers won't be around in 2 years or so, or actually less, plus who is better looking, wire or flowers!? wire ofcourse! so get to fuck!
Really well said. I doubt very much that any band today will gain a whole new army of fans over and over again, as long as the Manics keep going, they will always have longevity, even when they stop. A kid who's born today will I doubt very much remember any of the irrelevant shallow crap thats around today
