  • My god what a complete piece of shit pseudo-intellectual wind-bag Buckley was. Good riddance.

  • @jackxbf1 To take it a step further-->When Buckley's grandparents worked.... as he mentioned... he fails to acknowledge that they got paid for their labor. In the 1960s this part of the conversation can't be overlooked... Again, far from "brain"... Unfortunately you can't fix a "problem" that you when you ignore of its complexities.

  • Buckley has the brain, Baldwin is just full of hate, it seems that buckley is talking about fixing the problems of the time and Baldwin just wants to complain how powerless he is to fix it, other than to react violently to these problems.

  • @jackxbf1 It seems you weren't listening to the debate as closely as it demands. Baldwin was making a "macro" statement to paint the picture of how the Negro has been used to create the illusion of the "American Dream" and how that affects American culture... and instead of speaking to the "macro or bigger" picture, Buckley only attacks Baldwin without truly getting to the meat of the debate. History is always a part of present day. Buckley ignoring that is far from "brain"...

  • buckley's voice is so slimy. I feel dirty listening to him talk.

  • The african american culture always goes misunderstood, most admired, and deprived of credit. James baldwin kicks ass!

  • What an ass.

  • A pair of my heroes. In this, Baldwin is eloquent, making the southern white as the truly oppressed, a point antithetical to the norm and therefore hugely effective. Buckley comes across as a snake oil salesman.... perhaps because Baldwin is right and the only defense, from the standpoint of debate, is obfuscation. I come away believing that WFB agrees with JB but, because he's assigned the opposite position, does his best to distract. And by that distraction, win. Not a chance.

  • Am I the only one here that has detected the fact that these two men are both profoundly gay?

  • Buckley talks about Baldwin faking a British accent here, but WFB too is speaking rather differently at points. His voice sounds more nasal than usual and almost sounds Chinese or something on some vowels. It's like both men feel they have to change since they're in England. Also, Baldwin's expressions reacting to him are priceless.

  • @DRATCHFAN If Baldwin has an English accent (here, it sounded American to me); then what would one call Buckley's?

  • What's the difference between William F. Buckley and The HINDENBURG?

One is a flaming, Nazi Gas-Bag and the other is a blimp.

  • @chefjefff dimwit

  • @gdbalck your command of the English language puts Buckley to shame...

  • @chefjefff He always said, brevity is the soul of whit.

  • @gdbalck too bad he didn't follow that rule. He would take twenty minutes to ask a waitress fot a cup of coffee.

  • @chefjefff except that Buckley argues for nothing resembling the platform of national socialism. Also, Godwins Law in the top comment!

  • @otacon451 Goodwins Law does not apply when you are speaking about a bona-fide social fascist

  • Mr Buckley's pointing out Mr Baldwin's ' affected English Accent' is a meaningless Ad Hominen and laughably ironic. I'm just grateful that Mr Buckley restrained himself at this event as he is well known for jumping from his chair and threating physical violence if he doesnt particularly happen to like what his opponent might be saying at the time. Billy Buckley is a man having a first-rate vocabulary and a second-rate intellect, incapable of entertaining two serious thoughts in a row

  • Buckley's "concern" is complete sophistry.

  • This debate perfectly illustrates my main problem Buckley. He perfumes mediocre ideas, ad hominem attacks and red herring arguments with florid prose to create the illusion of profundity. The issue presented before the hall was whether or not the American Dream was/is built at the expense of the Negro. But his speech doesn't address the heart of the subject, nor does he rebut Baldwin's argument that this was the case. It was mostly sound and fury signifying nothing more than a personal attack.

  • Check out Willm Bukley acting like a grade school boy among his peers and alma mater; Looking as if he has no education at all! Well it has been since the 60's since this debate and Yup Buckley is still an Asshole! Embracing Cognitive Ignorance wrapped in Promulgation graduating from mere Texualism! For Buckley all done in the name of Conservative! Not Philanthropy, not Humanity come to think of it Buckly is not loving anything but himself and i guess his membership in Oligarchy lalaFallU land!

  • If you could go back in time to 1965, go to this debate, and show these ignorant white people what the urban black culture would devolve into beginning in the 1990s with Gangsta Rap music and its influence on white kids becoming "wiggers," then everyone in that room would be scared shitless of them and instantly vote in favor of Buckley. The whiney homosexual Baldwin would probably have a heart attack then instead of dying in 1987. All you'd have to do is show them MTV shows.

  • @legalman1980 Do tell how you profitted from Buckleys advice from the 60's and how you ultimately secured yourself not only from niggers but also wiggers? Also how much does it cost to maintain such supurb homeland security? Do tell, what your occupation it is that your Foundation sits apon as does the Rock at/of Gibraltar (Jibal Tariq)? Finally, Tell us all how it feels to fianally reach the Status of Oligarch or are you just simply a political Lobbyist! Does Poor White G20 trash look up to you?

  • @legalman1980 Shut the fuck up!

  • @legalman1980 In 1965 that black urban culture already existed. Tookie Williams the founder of the Crips was around and so were Frank Lucas, the Vice Lords and many other people and groups, so that criminal element has always been there. That culture has been past down from those previous generations and has since evolved. What you need to understand is culture and history are connected. Those poeple developed that culture to survive in a very harsh environment.

  • @legalman1980 Also It takes time to develop a culture and blacks have been here for 100s of years and have been full citizens for a little over 40 years. They weren't allowed to keep their original cultures so they had to make their own. Slavery and jim crow had an enormous influence on black urban culture. From the way they speak (slang), which was developed during slavery to speak around the slave masters, to music like Jazz and Blues which later would give birth to R&B and Hip Hop.

  • Good ol Buckley struck a blow for the white man that night. I don't care what the audience thinks. Bill won.

  • @xtrmsprts Oh please. This is 2011. Shut the fuck up.

  • @xtrmsprts I didn't know the 'white' man was in need of someone to strike a blow on his behalf, or that there was something to be struck. Please explain.

  • This is great for my research paper-- thanks!
