If these young women are too dumb to understand what they are doing, then they should quit polluting the human gene pool with their DNA. I do not feel sorry for them. They are adults and nobody is forcing them into this.
Thanks for making this! Women have already been abused and exploited for decades by pseudo-professionals in the adoption industry, who are hiding massive civil and human rights violations committed against young mothers to get their babies for adoption. Many have PTSD and secondary infertility as a result of the trauma. Egg "donation" is no more ethical or humane. The frauds who exploit vulnerable women are making billions in profits at our and our children's tragic lifelong expense.
@nicolebernetta Also, I am sure many blond, blue eyed women prefer to choose donor who look like them. The fact is that many people will choose donors with their same coloring. And I'm sure they want intelligence in a donor as well. Should they choose someone stupid to be the genetic donor for their child? Exactly what do you find so unethical about preferring intelligence in an egg or sperm donor? Explain, if you can.
@nomorefunds Ordering children to fit one's specifications is morally repugnant. It's been done for many years in adoption. What if a child doesn't meet up to the adopters' expectations, or a genius child gets stuck with moronic adopters? It happens, believe me. Can the children sue for wrongful adoptions in such cases? I hope so. It's only fair.
To all women who are debating donating their eggs, I am an intern for this organization and while it is totally your choice to donate but we have TONS OF ACCOUNTS of women who HAVE DIED OR BEEN PARALYZED OR GOTTEN VERY VERY SICK from the donation process, not everyone does but some do and it is worth protecting them.I have worked with three of the women in this video and we come from a place of care after having young women approach us and ask to help them.
@nicolebernetta You are lying. The egg donation process is basically the same procedure that women undergo when they do IVF w/their own eggs - the same stim drugs are taken. I did several IVFs myself, there was no reported risk of "paralysis" (as you claim) or death. You are making this stuff up.
@nicolebernetta You are lying. The risks of egg donation are identical to the risks of doing an IVF with your own eggs. The stim drugs and retrieval process are exactly the same. You don't see tons of women dying from having IVF, even numerous IVFs. Those of us who have undergone IVF know that you are lying.
I would not be so quick to call this fantastic. Some good points are raised, but as an egg donor, I can tell you that some of this information false. By this video's own statistics, only 25 women have died. Think about how many women have donated! I hardly consider egg donors victims.
Many women would not able to have children, and research needs to be done on stem cells to further medical advances.
Only 25 women we know have died. There are many other deaths we are calling to be investigated. And there are many many more women who have been harmed, but fortunate enough not to have died. Remember, an egg donor is a healthy woman who undergoes real risks.
"up to 10% of women who undergo ovarian stimulation experience severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which can cause pain, and occasionally leads to hospitalization, renal failure, potential future infertility, and even death." Yet has no "clearly established benefits to the recipient". - SCIENCE MAGAZINE
1% have long-term health consequences, their offspring may have increased risk for cancers and stillbirth.
Most progressive countries ban it because of the risks.
Then why pay them? $50,000 is a lot to anyone, especially to a poor college student (who probably gets closer to $5,000 but lured by the $50K) - but around the poor world women are tossed as little as US$250 (a month/years wages) and discarded as the complications mount. Some of these women are forced (yes, beaten and forced) to 'donate' by their husbands (as if just feeding their starving children wasn't enough). Unlike cosmetic surgery, women aren't lining up to have this done voluntarily.
Sorry but egg donors don't get paid $50,000. I don't know where you are getting this misinformation. Egg donors in the U.S. are usually paid around $5,000, sometimes more, sometimes less.
As for women getting beaten up by their husbands, this would go on regardless of egg donation. Domestic violence is a separate issue entirely.
Sperm donors are paid, egg donors should be paid also. Its only fair.
Sorry, but I've been through this process myself, dearie, and there is no substantiated increase in risk of cancer, stillbirth, etc. I've never hear of donors "stroking out on the table". This is pure hysteria and b.s. Just ask any reproductive endocrinologist. You are spreading misinformation and lies.
Your omniscience fails you. Maybe if you expanded thought to beyond your microcosm you would be aware that there are medical journals reporting this. Calla Papademas (Stanford student who stroked out at 22) and others like her must not exist because you haven't heard of them. The lady in videos daughter is never existed and the BBC lies. The journal Nature spread lies when it published, "Health effects of egg donation may take decades to emerge." Those profiting from the procedure are better.
I wish this video could be seen by every active feminist (pro-choice or pro-life)during these months when the various states, and the federal government, are debating and voting on bills that allow somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). It is true, as the video says, that clear-thinking on research cloning has been hi-jacked by the politics of abortion. Egg-extraction on a massive level for SCNT is a public health nightmare just waiting to happen.
Fantastic piece- Jennifer and the others are telling a strong story that needs telling. This is of concern for all women- and men also, to make themselves aware of.

Also, "vanillapie" some women do get paid $50,000 if they are blonde, blue-eyed and go to an ivy league school from certain IVF clinics.

@nicolebernetta So what if they get paid a lot of money?

Yes, 25 women is only a tiny percentage of all women who have donated eggs.
Egg donation is just about as safe as anything else!

Everything has risks. There is no medical procedure that is 100% risk free.

It is about time that someone started talking about this. Thanks Jennifer!

SCNT hasn't even worked in primates. Women shouldn't die providing research materials.

These women make the choice to donate their eggs. Nobody forces them to.

Guess you didn't read my comment. It's 'lured by 450K but gets closer to $5000".
Sperm donors don't stroke out on the table (in fact, they do it for nothing all the time) and get 1/10 what women get.
This is so dangerous many progressive countries ban it (Denmark, Canada, UK, Israel)
Research whows future risk of cancers and stillbirth for her and kids. OK to kill them, too?
If a woman is beaten until she complies she is FORCED to do it, so your point fails there as well.
