  • Tired of these "masters" who seem to those who are ignorant,to do incredible things. There is by rule a great difference between what I can or might do when attacked&what I will do.This person here for instance has made a world around him because his eyes are slanted(that's how it starts),where he is like a semigod to those who are ignorant. He even uses a little kid for his unreal demonstration. In a real fight, let's say even with an athletic streetfighter, he would lose. Yeah, believe it pals.

  • I've had these done to me. I'm 250 lbs. my buddy showed me some of these moves he is 165 on a good day. he had to catch me due to how far I was flying.

  • real tai chi is a very effective martial art, but this video is fake and gay

  • show me one fighter in any martial art where they fight hard who use such technics! if your opponent don´t attack like you arrange and have a minimal skill you can forget this.

i like any martial art, but to see such demonstration let me doubt to some master.

in my mind it is the most effectiv if you combine kicks with boxing- grapple- and takedown technics. but to count on that what i have see in that video to face someone who want to hurt you i wouldn´t recommend.

  • Tai chi or Taijiquan is an excellent fighting system, but guys like this just make mockery of the art and to the great masters of the past. if wanna throw people around go learn judo or aikido Tai chi is all about striking not throwing people around.

  • this is a great demo of the eight basic techniques.

  • this is real. I've gotten these things done on me.

  • maybe tai chi is bad for fighting but I'm sure is is still great to assault innocent people

  • @Ebis77 its not bad for fighting, every move in tai chi is based on selfdefence and/or attack

  • This is great! against unskilled fighters.

  • Incredible, I see how relaxing are his feets

  • it is unlikely you will get into a fight with a good martial artist... those who pick fights and are impatient are usually not skilled...

  • Only works with a willing student. Not in real life.

Love it anyway, I like the science of it, but it is not realistic whatsoever.

Anything works with a willing student.

  • @SundangsMods

Ummm... If the other student did not fall back and instead pushed back, he would have injured himself. By falling back after the push, he does not take any of the force that's directed at him. Tai chi uses physics and is effective based on how well your form is. some people may have qi but i haven't experienced it and will not talk about it..

  • Hey you stole my title!

  • I´m NOT saying it´s not applicable as a sort of selfdefence...however, I get a bit frustrated at the jumping around-throwing himself on the floor-type of reaction from the smaller guy... Yes, he gets a hit in the chest, no need to jump back to the end of the stage, I´m sure everyone in attendance would understand the effectiveness of a blow to the sternum without that theater.... Other than that it´s a nice demonstration of a fascinating martial art

  • @anigeus

maybe the lil guy is very sensitive to pain lol

  • The best video I've seen for demonstrating the bridge between slow, meditational tai chi and the self defence application. Important to note that the intention is not to seriously injure. Effectiveness seems to come from keeping composure. Great video showing true softness of a flowing art.

  • Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

  • Taiji takes years of practicing to get to high level. The guy with glasses only shows applications, if he shows you taiji strength training such as 10'' long pole, people might not believe it is taiji.

  • everyone doubting the validity of this video have no understanding or appreciation of "soft style" martial arts.

  • @zrvs

sure it works against some puny little kid who is just barely free of mommy's teat but against some authenyic muay thai fighter or someone with knowledge of combat 4 eyes would be exposed as the fake master bully that he is. Your bogus comment is ignorant just suck ass

  • Stupid things....

  • how is it fake?

both of them know tai chi which is why they can show you this demonstration.

If it were just some random joe volunteering to help the demonstration he would have been seriously hurt already.

    This is real.

  • @spoonr47

you are a joke. watch many fantasy kung fu movies. YOU need to get out of your mommy's basement more often

  • still a young grasshopper like me. ^^v

  • ???

  • "How to use Tai ji in fight"

    Orly?

  • alot of ppl mkae fun of material arts becuz of tht they shud show how to do it lyk the speed it wud be at in a real fite

    =

  • what a piece of sht

  • THIS is theatre... :/

  • Well, this ain't a flick...

  • i don't wanna waste my time commenting on this thing, well as matter of fact i already did...-_-

  • AS IF!!!!!!

  • with this the speed of the punch ,no wonder ,the tai chi master can grab the opponent`s hand:))

  • He's just demonstrating though... No need to dishonor him.

  • Haha! No need to 'dishonor' him! You're right out of a kung fu movie.

  • Thanks XD I try.

  • not realistic, but possible only at highly trainned level.. and we are talking about animal sensing capability, sharpness and coordination...

  • U litter fatty,if real i tin u die lo.

  • I do Aikido and it is curious how most of those techniques (very very similar) can be found in Aikido too.

  • Thats because the body is made the same way no matter where it is found. If it bends one way but wont in another then someone will find a way to use that.

  • I only saw one that is used in aikido and that was the wrist throws at 1:20 to 1:40.

The japanese and chinese used to fight alot in ancient times, so tai chi was developed for self defense and health. When the japanese learned it, they adapted it into their styles such as judo and jujitsu. Then Morihei Ueshiba came around and created Aikido out of those.

  • heard of tai chi but not tai ji

  • It's just a different way of spelling it, genius!

    Go to Wikipedia, oh Chi-Walker!

  • Yea, it's the same thing. It's also Tai Qi, because in chinese it's spelled with a Q.

Tai Chi is just the Wade-Giles spelling (wade-giles sucks, trust me)

  • There is no Q in the chinese alphabet.

You might mean pinyin, which was invented to enable westerners to pronounce chinese.

As pinyin does not account for the melody of the language, they might have said some terrible things they did not mean to say...

  • Pin Yin is the modern accepted form of romanization for mandarin. Also, its tai ji (太极), NOT tai qi (太氣) as in qigong. The meaning is supreme ultimate which is derived from Chinese cosmology in does NOT pertain to "qi" as in "ki", which is used in aikido. The characters are completely different. The common western spelling of tai chi is from the wade giles romanization system which is by most accounts an aweful phonetic translation, hence the modern pinyin replacement.

  • haha, the attacker is hitting when he is about 1 meter away from the defender.. No one would do that, they will punch when they are 1/2 meter away.

  • If anyone try to use this in a real street brawl, he'll be humiliated or get himself killed.

  • you're one ignorant person. don't speak of something until you understand what it is.

  • Daaaaaaaaag!!!

  • pretty good moves, i'd like to learn them. even though they are very simple moves, this is just about being concentrated and having calm enough to perform them in a real fight.

  • lol tai chi dude going to live longer

  • thats why you take half the time to learn them both from a good mma gym and noone who uses tai chi will be able to compete with you...I completly agree with the comment above about looking good in practice and demos. But when you get into an actual confrontation you fall apart...all that stuff is usless by itself andwith all the showy moves left in the mix....it simply will not work especially against a wrestler even if thier style is limited to the ground..that is one thing Tai Chi doesn't do..

  • I disagree. As you can see from the moves, they are neutrlizing ones. You don't just simply stop after doing one or two.

Believe it or not, many countries teach their special units (and police) Tai Chi. Take a look at the 2nd move. That can be finished by tripping the opponent and setting on his back. His arm will be in lock and he won't be able to get up because his body won't allow him. I've got a friend who's twice my size that can't move his side (facing me) when I use that move on him.

  • heres an idea mr badass, YOU fight them and shut up. all show no go, what a buffoon. Proper Tai Chi would break you.

  • boxing and wrestling limit themselves to high punches and (obviously) wrestling on the ground respectively. at least tai chi is more dynamic than those to fighting styles alone.

  • thats shit no offense

its just the other lad diving across if your going to demonstrate harden the fuck up

i'm not just slaggin i practice tai chi

  • Actually I think Tai Chi is similar to pencak silat when done att full speed. I have much experience in both. People tend to forget that tai chi includes many strikes along with its circular grappling movements. The basis is to absorb an attack, pulling the attacker of balance and counter with either a soft or a hard technique. Very similar to the silat i've practiced.

  • if the student had any intention of defending himself or any concept of balance in any wrist parry, then he would not go flying, in fact, he wouldnt even move and he could even avoid the wrist parry with an elbow hook, twisting his arm around into a hook with a fist, or just back away his wrist and bring a backfist vertically to the chin.

taiji is useful in a limited manner, but this guy is a total fake. take it from someone who has traveled the world in an effort to enhance their technique.

  • and to anyone thinking this stuff is amazing... the movements and ease which they are done come from a thorough knowledge of the human anatomy, especially the joints. the moves seen here, you can find in any eastern martial art. i've gone to the philippines and to china, and eskrima, judo, jujitsu, silat, wing chun and sanshou are the most useful eastern styles. everything else is either inferior and/or copies what any one of these styles teach already. i'm not including western martial arts.

  • oh yea, and thai boxing. how could i forget that?

  • Your right about the intention of the student, but this is a staged demo. You are completely wrong about Taijiquan being "useful in a limited manner". Taiji when studied properly as a martial art is complete and deadly. Sure if you use taiji as a "technique" based system, it's not much use, but the same goes for any art. If your art is based on tried and tested principles, then you have something. Yang Lu Chan was known as Yang the invincible and drew blood with every step, so useless it is not.

  • This is obviously just a demonstration of what can be done with tai chi. Anyone with some knowledge of the techniques could resist, but it still might not be effective depending on how good this guy really is.

  • Dude, you're making it way too complicated. Sure he could do that and the other guy would do this and he would do that etc. This is just a demonstration. If this was done at full speed/power there would be no time to do any of that crap you described.

  • tai chi is one of the most best martial arts there is but not many people see it or even understand part of it because It takes so long to master. Many people wont go trough with all the training to the finish. If a normal martial art takes atleast 7 years master this will take 12. Is one of the hardest martial arts to master.

  • very well agreed

    i practise taichi everyday

and i noticed something, the more u practice, the more u learn.Sometimes movies misled a lot of people about how powerful taichi is.

  • Very much! My grandma has been practising tai chi for a long time, and I never thought of it as a martial art, even though it was one. I knew it could be powerful if used fast, but I didn't think it would be as powerful as the video showed. So now I practice tai chi, but I only started yesterday so I'm not so good.

Stupid movies, now I'll know what to think of another movie that messes it up for me. ^.^

  • tai chi the actualy power is FAKE but the pressure points are real...

  • Tai crap does not work in a fight.

  • ow man!

    tai chi rules!!

    it's a whole complete art!

  • I'd like to see it in real fight.. I don't like this kinda shows... There's always a master and a person that "attacks" him.. of course.. always with the same punch.. The "attacker" is rather passing him his hand, than throwing a punch...

  • its called a demonstration, its done in every martial art - if bruce lee just went full speed all the time, no one would learn anything

  • But the thing I wanted to say is: "I'd like to see this martial art at work".

I train a little bit of martial arts and I doubt wheter this martial art is as effective in real life as in this demonstration - I am almost sure that it wouldn't be effective against a trained fighter (MMA, MT, KB)

  • tai chi is not an easy art to learn - also as well even harder is a teacher who can teach you properly its usage - I recommend Sifu Rudy Curry if you are interested in seeing taichi used in street fighting

  • MMA is not an indication of anything. To see applications done, it's best to see it in these controlled environment so no one is actually hurt. Tai Chi Chuan is very lethal and can truly fubar someone in real life applications.

  • He is using it effectively. Although a little more flashy than I like to see. The teacher is showing each Tai Chi Movement demonstrated with the same punch. So even though the punch is the same. The applications are endless. Now unless you can tell me that a street fighter would punch differently that on this video, the application would be the same.

  • I think that you're worng... MMA IS an indication. It blends best things from many Martial Arts. MMA gives you a concept about fighing.

  • MMA is a good concept, which is to blend different martial arts together - but at the same time it is sport fighting - for example the shoot - the opp is giving you his head, with no hands protecting, you can easily just snap their neck

  • MMA is a sport and it takes 10 years to even begin to understand Tai Chi Chuan let alone use it effectively. However, most of the renowned experts of Tai Chi Chuan were undefeated in either contest or real life. Now if you really want to know if Tai Chi is effective. Go to a Tai Chi School that practices it as a fighting art and ask to fight with the top students. Then you will know. Be careful though, the last guy I knew that did that found himself upside down against a wall.

  • You talk about this Tai Chi as if it was the best art ever. And here's the point you should stopo for a while and ask yourself: "Am I right?"; "Is there ONE good martial art?"

I've herad that there's no ONE good martial art. There is many of them. all of them have advantages and disadvangates.. but.. there's NO single martial art that has the title "the best ever"

  • I make no such claims. You said you wanted to see it used effectively. I said goto school and see it. You said that it's not in the MMA. I said the art is complex. Tai Chi contains kicks, punches, joint locks, pressure points, breath control, throws, and sticky hands. Seems pretty complete to me.

  • Ok.. I am aware of the fact that my knowledge of martial arts isn't on the highest level.. but why did you say: "You have a very bad conception of martial arts in general" - You don't know me, I don't know you..

I think we should cool down. I should put some attention to Tai Chi and you to MMA.

  • I am not upset. I spoke the truth. You're inexperience speaks in volumes. No I am not putting you down either. I am telling you that you need to gain more experience before you criticize a style.

  • My suggestion is you go to a school and let them demonstrate their art on you. Then you will learn. By the way Tai Chi people don't sparr in the conventional sense. All of the techniques we learn are not sport related.

  • You see this is what I am saying your lack of experience speaks loudly. There are two types of martial artists, those that train for tournaments and those that train for the street. You must understand the difference. Tournament fighters don't always do well in street combat and vice versa.

  • Tai Chi people don't sparr in the conventional sense....thats why they suck at fighting and great at demonstrating.

  • The tai chi people who train for health may suck but the ones who train to fight will fuck you up badly with minimal effort.

  • You have a very bad conception of martial arts in general. In the 26 years of martial arts training. I have many friends in various arts and all of them will hurt you bad. It's not the art but the person studying. However, if you are talking about how complete or complex an art is then you will find that Tai Chi is one of the most complex arts ever designed.

  • In fact, after looking at this guy. His diagnal flying is better than mine. It makes me want to practice more. I will have to meditate on this. I want to thank the poster for this. It's a really good demo. The practioner is very smooth, and he is not using force. That's very good indeed.

  • One more thing. One of the reasons why you see these demos done off the right hand is because of the camera. The angle of vision and line of sight has to be precise enough to see what the demonstrator is doing. Many years ago when I was demonstrating, we used broader techniques in order for the audience to actually see what's going on.

  • And be aware of another thing.. MMA fighters and Kick boxers say: "You may look good when you hit a bag, you may be good at remembering techniques and repeating them, but when you begin a real fight, then you may fall to pieces". Sparrings and confrontatnios are important. How much of those is in Tai Chi? On a mat and on a bag you can learn techniques.. on a ring you learn how to use them.

  • what you say has some truth man as a person who practiced a mixed form meant more for the street and a few traditional styles. What you need to remember is those ways you listed arent the only way for people to learn. I would suggest bro that you take your own advice, ask around and find a tai chi school known for solid moves etc not just the dance so many fools teach. They will give the basics of what you can do with it and most likely, you'll find you like it.

  • WOW YOU SEE THAT! HE FLEW!

  • not bad, i trained with some guys at Heaven Man Earth who did this kind of thing with almost no movement.

  • good...search heaven man earth to see some great taiji applications

  • Big deal throwing lanky, light weighted boys over the stage! Amazing how easily laymens are tricked and impressed.

  • Looks like this would be handy to know. Some of the techniques look like aikido throws, but the most interesting stuff to me is the impressive pushing techniques that send the student flying. Who's the sifu, where do I buy his dvds?

  • good taiji

  • Ya Great Video !! I've been looking for videos of Tai Chi in use for hours ~ I rather see some REAL FIGHT tho ...

  • Who is this guy? This is the most straight forward, non intricate yang applications I've seen. Simple, Powerful Effective--cool! Send me a link to this sifu.

  • this lookjs amazing! dudes u r amazing!

  • I like very much!

  • That looks pretty usefull! I wish this would exist in my town... =/
