@SteveOnStar the suspension stock on 850 and 240 Volvo wasn't the best but there are multiple distributors of aftermarket parts, like ipdusa.com where you can buy sport springs, struts ect. you can even get a bolt on kit for 850 and S70 turbos that can easily bring them over 380HP for under $3000

Portland Or is Volvo tuner country. A guy who has a repair shop (Vshop) has a 740 with 550 wheel hp. 2.5 marine block/ BIG turbo/ lots of other goodies. He ate up vette's, mustangs, porsches, all race built cars too. Terminal speeds at PIR were close to 180. They are light, strong, and really fast when done correctly.

Seeing as how the Volvo was closing the gap even in the corners, and then passed the Porsche handily on the straight, I highly doubt the Porsche raped it in the next corner. The Porsche is easily running several seconds slower per lap than that Volv8.

Hey dumb shit...he not only caught UP to the Porsche, but caught it. You know nothing about road racing. That Volvo was easily running 8 seconds faster per lap based on that clip. That equates to RAPING the 911. 8 seconds is a commanding lead on a ~2 mi road course.

A stock Volvo tranny will easily handle an American V8. This swap has been done for eons, so not sure why some of you, who obviously have no idea what you are talking about, are so negative about it. You're very wrong about that. Assuming you're talking about the Volvo MTs, the M46 can handle about 225, the m47 about 190, due to its low friction synchros. The M90 can handle just about anything thrown at it, but was only available in Europe. Not only would these trannys die very quickly under a V8's torque, the stock Volvo clutches are only 8.5 inches in diameter. Good luck finding compatible parts.

i don't know about on V8 conversions, but on building the 4cyl Turbo engines up, BMW Getrag gearboxes are used, you get a kit for doing it and all, as for V8 ones, i'd do a Tremec, good match with a V8.

Your totally missing the point. You can have much mroe drivability and from a roll "ooopmh" by using a V8. Hell, it can even be stock. What would you rather, some peaky turbo 4 banger or a dead stock LT1 under the hood?

A cast iron Chevrolet V8 is not significantly heavier than the Volvo B-series fours (within 50 pounds), and if you built an LS series aluminum V8, it would actually be LIGHTER than the original 4 cylinder.

I had a Volvo 244 once, and always wanted to do the V8 swap. It's kind of a no-brainer in these cars, especially if you're aiming for over 300 horsepower or so.
