@BJrockk Actually, every cryptex that was sent out as part of this challenge had the same code, GRAIL, but it is pretty easy to change by disassembling it and then rotating the white plastic rings that the letters are printed on.

I don't know why they chose to use a different code, especially considering it was printed on the outside of the box that the cryptex came in.

@Simpsonfreak1 This was actually made out of diecast metal as well. Only the white rings with the letters imprinted are made of plastic.  It is the less expensive version, however. I believe at one point this retailed for $60 while the larger, higher quality version sold for $200.

The book came first, and the cryptex in the book is different from the movie. Actually, in the book, there were two crytexes, one white paneled and one black paneled. One cryptex inside another. The second cryptex spelled Apple and the first, Sofia. "Grail" was never a password, not sure where he got that.
