I think Steve said he was getting only 2 minutes per 2GB, not 20 minutes. That seemed high to me, even for an uncompressed iMovie file. When I do a DV project in iMovie, it can run into GB's, but I'm pretty sure it's at least a couple of minutes per GB.

since this video I have also found that if I capture with iSight using iMovie iGet 53 minutes for 4 minutes / 26 minutes for 2GB, so basically it's the hi-def cam (which I don't even have on the highest setting) which is using up all my space.

Hmm, I don't think man up and balls up are anywhere near the same. As I understand it to 'man up' is to accept responsibility/admit to a mistake/face up to something. 'balls up' is to make a total mess of something!
I'm also conscious that I never want editing to become a chore so the C vs F video will be made one day but only when I have a clear window and a lot of spare time. The same also goes for Cat & Family go to Majorca.

The gag was brilliant Steve and the bit about "yes John you certainly watch my videos 3 times a week" had me in hysterics. But Mr. Funny is the one famous for selective hearing lol. I think it was your Vegas series? or possibly your Hater series when I became aware of just how much footage from so many years you have. 3 External drives is just the start of it, I've also got some good stuff (at least what I consider good) on tape which has not made it as far as the PC/MAC e.g "Cat vs Funny" will hopefully be a classic but at 45 minutes of raw footage I know it will be quite an exercise to import and then break it down into a couple of decent videos.

The compression on YouTube really sucks ... My last videos were old saved as MPEG2 in a higher quality and after the upload the picture was looking nice. But my last video looks very pixelated again by the same settings and the "watch in higher quality" link isn't there and &fmt=18 don't makes any change.
I also try to keep my videos under 5 or at least 6 minutes. Mostly I don't watch longer videos.
Regarding the "watch in higher quality" option, I'm not currently getting that either, but they just did some maintenance 5 hours ago and YouTube was down. That could be why. I wonder how many people click to view in high quality. Many times I don't because it's just easier not to. In the past if I rendered at 640x480 1500mbps I got superb quality. In the present, when I view in higher quality the picture is amazingly clear. And I have to learn how to make short videos ;)
