Sadly the custom of wearing lip disks has deminished greatly

with in the Amazon tribal belt.Especially the Kayapo Indians):

After the 1960`s it started to drendle in numbers due to out

side influences and less members of the tribe stretched their

lips.But its amazing how this custom is making a come back

in the West` but labret wear`ers who are deciding to flip and

project their lips in full spiritual revival of this nearly lost tradition.

People still identify each other mainily by our facial appearance, so

when something has drastically altered the features some may see

this as abnormal? or even disfigured. But in this culture the wearing

of lip disks is seen as noble. courageous, and proud. The rights of

passage demands this body modification in order to be excepted

amongst the high ranking levels of the tribe.

The ability to consume food and drink can be achieved, even speech

is still possible wearing large lip disks. To adapt to lip disks takes

time and creativity to establish a comfort zone.The remarkable thing

about these tribal natives is how natural they make this custom appear.
