This also serves as a rare opportunity to see members of the crowd begin to stand up for the traditional standing ovation at the entrance just as the camera cuts to the turntable. The only other time I saw an early standing o was the MDS for Bob's 80th birthday; some group of ladies way in the back stood up for about five seconds on camera before the doors opened and Bob came out.
His first audience entrance was as an April Fool's joke on April 1, 1981. He began doing audience entrances on a more regular basis starting on June 14, 1989.
And only when the Golden Road pricing game was being played (as it was played first and its props gave the game away when Bob did his normal center door entrance)
When 3 Strikes, Plinko, and One Away was played first, Bob made audience entrances. In fact, on the rare instance that Pathfinder, Grand Game, Dice Game, and Hit Me, were played first, Bob made an audience entrance for those games also.
i may have the whole episode of this somewhere on beta tape because i recorded it then, and its in a little better quality. i will try to upload it sometime soon.
The turntable was in its normal position, so I don't think it was. With Golden Road and Triple Play, the turntable is usually moved from its original position. The reason is because the turntable itself blocks part of the view of Door 1. On the other hand, on Lucky $even the turntable is pushed the opposite way to let the vehicle get through.
Yeah, I would love to see an episode where Drew Carey enters from the turntable but I don't think that will ever happen since hurting his arm but that was just bad luck and it was his first week hosting the show.
I think maybe if the "Price is Right" logo was on the turntable, like it is today on Carey's edition, they would've shown more turntable revolving. After all, the logo that blows up toward the screen is shortly faded to a shot of the logo on big doors just before Bob would make his entrance, and both logos are more or less in sync. Kinda makes you wish they'd fade to the giant logo above the right wing of the audience for when Bob would walk down the aisle and up on stage, doesn't it?
Assuming the logo was seen on the turntable wall that day, Rod says, "You are the first 4 contestants on 'TPIR!' And now..." the view fades from the audience to the turntable, "Here's the star of 'TPIR...'" the turntable starts up, "...Bob Barker!" and Bob makes his appearance.
Here, the turntable was already going when the shot faded from the audience to Bob. I just think it would've been better if we saw it right from when it started up, that's all.
I see what you mean. However, turntable revolving and if Bob enters from the back of the audience, neither has a TPIR logo, yet Bob did audience entrances, so I don't think it would have mattered if the TPIR logo was on the turntable or not.
next item up for bids is...bob barker!?

Bob's one and only turntable entrance! I like the look on his face when he comes around and looks like he's holding on for dear life!

Why did Bob enter on a turntable that day?
nextbarker 2 years ago
The first game was Hole in One, which would have blocked Bob's normal entrance. This was before audience entrances.

I've been trying to find it, but couldn't. There are pictures at tpir(dot)tv, but seeing a video of it is much better.

A turntable entrance could work with Drew, with the logo being on the turntable and all.
mateo096 3 years ago
I wish they would use this entrance more often, its really cool!
mateo096 3 years ago
I'm assuming that because of Golden Road, he came in that way. Of course, after that, he just walked in from the house.
innsaane 3 years ago
Or maybe because of Hole in One.

Why did Bob entner through the turntable?
nextbarker 3 years ago
Hole in 1 (or 2) was the first game played, and that blocks Bob's Door #2 entrance. At this point, Bob hadn't begun doing audience entrances.
mitmfan 3 years ago
I heard this was done because the first game of the day was Hole in One. You can even see the curtain.

I think Drew could make turntable entrances EXTREMELY funny!
olmec26 3 years ago
If only they could do that permanently. Though the audience entrances are just as cool; but nothing beats this!

I hope there will be an episode where Drew Carey enters from the turntable. I think that would be so cool.

I doubt it. After he hurt his arm on the turntable, he probably wouldn't want to risk it.
Billiam95 4 years ago
What happened to Drew Carey on the turntable was just plain bad luck.

I wonder if anyone could post a clip of Bob entering from the audience as part of an April Fool's joke on April 1, 1981.
mitmfan 4 years ago
I've heard about it. It starts with the big doors opening up to reveal an easel with a poster reading "April Fools!" Doesn't it?

I think it would've been better if they showed more of the turntable revolving than they did, but seeing this is still a treat!
You can see a part of Hole in 1 (or 2) for a brief moment when Bob walks to get his microphone.

The reason they stopped showing the turntable revolving is because of time restraints.
mitmfan 3 years ago
Oh, no. This is what I meant.
