  • I can't believe you just talked about my little pony before it was mainstream.

I'm in total shock right now.

  • @SuperGameExpert753

My Little Pony was mainstream in the 80s fool you know before you were born

  • did this game come to cincinnati ohio

  • I have this game on the Md,snes,ps2,psn,and neo geo.....love it.never forget playing it on the arcade.

  • the pronounce is not SHOWGUN? but "SHO'GOON" and is not SAMRYE but SUM-MOO-RA-I

  • This version of this game is not as good as the Neo Geo version but I rather play this version than the god awful SNES version

  • idk if it's jus me or not but this game reminds me a lot of Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale for the original PlayStation

  • No, I'm not related to that guy in Fatal Fury.

  • u can download from ps3 store game that

  • i want the sega cd ver of this!

  • Does this game require 3 or 6 buttons, I haven't played it yet on my Mega Drive but am ordering a bunch second hand. I know that a game like Street Fighter 2 is playable with 3 buttons but it's ultimate with 6... wondering if it was the same with this game.

  • @shoelacedonkey

NeoGeo fighters tend to e 4 button, so maybe you got the buttons and Start being D?

  • haha I perfectly remember this awesome game on my sega genesis, lot of hours playing it!! haha

  • This is my favorite sega genisis game.I used to spend HOURS trying to beat it!It was awesome!

  • You really need to see what they've done to my little pony recently. Someone somewhere. Release a friendship is magic version of my little pony so mark can review it and see what's become of the series. He'll still probably want to eviscerate them though mark has no tolerance for cute things unless they are dogs apparently.

  • This game caught on like wildfire back in the day and still has a huge cult following till this day, a very nice Genesis port from a collective standpoint but nothing beats the true original Neo Geo version in it's full glory, especially with a modded Geo.

  • i hated this version, the verion for the neo geo was a shitload better, especially the music.

  • read all the mangas of lone wolf and cub, fUCKING BRILLIANT

  • has anyone mentioned the neo-geo version?

  • Are you talking about genang.

  • Your gay, shut the fuck up charles!!!

  • @DragonZord90 This was SNK, not Sega.

  • is it possible to unlock stuff in this game?

  • leg not on the ground but he's cut in half

  • "Cross between Street Fighter and Bushido Blade..."

*goes to GameFAQs* Uh...no, this game came out years before Soul Calibur or Bushido Blade. Heck, SS might be the pioneer for weapon-based fighting games in all honesty.

  • @SilentStalkerX No worries. CGR isn't one to go ZOMGFRIPOF on SNK stuff.

  • Dude how do you go from reviewing Samurai Shodown to talking about Transformers?? Get back on topic.

  • No im not related to that guy in Fatal Fury - Pure genius xD

  • SNK Forever!

  • @Aztech355

    Treasure Forever!

  • Firstly, it pisses me off how much better this looks on the Genesis. Secondly, the spelling of Shodown could also be a reference to the Japanese word "Shodan," which means first (sho) dan (master, rank), which would mean the title meant first master of the samurai. Or first ranked samurai.

  • First of all pit fighter doesn't count as a fighting game. Second if u are "not a street fighter fan" you're a bitch

  • #1or at least one of the best looking games for the genesis

  • there used to be an arcade downtown where i live and during my lunch break or after work I would go there and watch people play videogames! Samurai Showdown was among them! It was great fun seeing people win, lose and bitch about it! :)

  • have you listened to the commentary on this video? pure awesome random!

  • This and Fatal Fury 2 were the best fighters on the Genesis, amazing conversions given the hardware differences between the Neo Geo and the Genesis. But what the hell happened with the SNES version of Samurai Shodown? It's a wreck. This is one of those times along with Aladdin and Thunder Force 3/Thunder Spirits where the Genesis came out on top.

  • "Stormshadow would kick the sh*t outta My Little Pony!"

  • Mad review, keep'em coming.

  • i like that ninja dude

  • come on asshole..

  • Old-school fighters are always cool, that's why I like Samurai Shodown and Street Fighter.

  • I like that train intro.

  • mi rank

    1. jubei

    2. kioshiro

    3. charlote

    4.hanzou

    5.nakoruru

  • do ya know wher i can get the second one for the genisis?

  • Bushido Blade required strategy, eh? My 5 part video about it begs to differ...

  • i wud love to see a one on one fight between ninja shinobi and ninja hanzo

  • Nakoruru was an Ainu, the indiginous population of Japan.

  • @starsiegeplayer : I heard that the Ainu are mostly illiterate (people who can't read or write). Is this true?

Anyway Samurai Shodown is a pretty good fighter, not 1st rate but still worth my time!

    Great review as usual!

  • The SS Anthology is great on the psp. You can play through all 6 Samurai Shodowns. Best part about the franchise is it's alot like final fantasy in that many characters styles are radically changed overtime so 3 doesn't feel like 4, an 4 doesn't feel like 5 etc etc

  • Samurai Shodown = Shogun Warriors + either Blandia, Time Killers or Knuckle Heads.

  • @MHMemeDoubleYourFun There are no mechs in Samurai Shodown. :l

  • @Lioyd1rving I'm talking about Kaneko's 1992 arcade game, not the toyline.

  • @MHMemeDoubleYourFun Now I see it. The pacing is 100% SNK though. In fact, most of it is. People just like to sink SNK whenever something has any sort of resemblence with something else. :l

  • I play Metal Slug on my Neo Geo AES (MVS with the Super MVS Converter II) and on my Neo Geo CDZ. The PS2 version has too much slowdowns and is not the correct way to play on the PS2, PSP or the Wii.

  • TO CALL "CLASSIC GAME ROOM" AWESOME WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT.

  • can u just STFU and simply play the game..we dont need to hear ur comments gosh

  • @udin23

then why do you watch reviews? just pick up an emulator and play the game if you dont want to listen to him.

  • To the Lone Wolf and Cub reference, HELL FUCKING YES!!!

  • ilove classic game in ilove the gay tlking heis so cool hn funy

  • Dammit theres ads here too?? You're supposed to be the anti ad man

  • where i can get this game please who can help me ?

  • Play Samurai Shodown 5. It has all the gore and fatalities and stuff.

  • The Neo Geo version buried this genesis version

  • just bought the wii anthology for 9 euros on amazon! yes!

  • Sega CD, has a very good port of this game.

  • to doomfan: don't forget the jubei yagyu in onimusha! :D

  • The Jubei character in the game as well as in Ninja Scroll are based off of one of Japan's most recognized swordsman, Yagyu Jubei Mitsuyoshi

  • Nice Lone Wolf & Cub reference. That would be interesting to add.

  • I have Samurai Showdown 5 on my Xbox, regular not 360.

  • Always hilarious when he goes off on one and starts talking about some other random topic. This is the best example.

  • Video released on my birthday. Awesome!

  • this game kicks ass, i got it on snk classics arcade for the ps2

  • your voice is depressing..

  • Because Knowing is half the battle.

  • lone wolf and cub lightning swords of death and fight at the peril are the one when ogami itto blast with the baby carrige nice vid lol

  • this game is a legend

  • this review is so random... i know its one of the early productions but focus on the game. It reminds me of family guy... just delving off into shit

  • Pick up Samurai Showdown Sen and you can cut someones arm off aswell as decapitation xD.

  • this game is a awesome classic.the second part was better but this game shows how awesome samurai battles can be . i think i download samurai showdown 4and 5again.this parts are totally awesome.=D

  • Nakaruru is Ainu, the native people of Japan.

  • that's not true, you can slice folks in half, but the character slit dissappears. I bought this game from Diehard Gamefan, never saw it in the store.

  • Takara converted this from the awesome arcade Neo-Geo version, for 16-bit systems. Genesis version has much bigger sprites, almost like the arcade, than the poor SNES version. Although that version is more colorful than Genesis. Overall I was surprised about this Genesis conversion, but still Neo-Geo is the King!

  • Van Dam was in Street Fighter

  • @xeking95 Van Damme.

  • I always like playing the Green dude in this game.

  • haha sick Soundwave reference

  • Revew the orginal neo geo one.

  • @firereed4 He can only review it if he has it and he might not have it.

  • Confusingly the missing one is earthquake, as i thought it would be narokuro or whatever because american samurai shodown is hardcore and henseforthe not have any moe.

  • earthquake was cut out from the game because he is too big and would ate a lot of resources from the system, also back in the day was the least popular character in the game. However he was present on the sega cd version.

I never had the chance to take a look on SS for the genesis and hell it looks pretty good, I had the snes version and it was a piece of shit.

  • dear up loader, thank you and thank you to you tube, you are the best,

I was looking for this game as I played it a lot but forgot the name of this game and thanks to you now I can look for it.

  • there is a sega cd version of this i think

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Is the missing 'w' on purpose? xD

  • lone wulf and cub... I love that . :3 And the game looks pretty cool.

  • What happened to the review and all teh usefull ingormation about the game, you reminisced about old cartoons the whole time, dont get me wrong i loved the stroll down memory lane but that didnt help with the game much

  • I completely agree

  • There was a Sega CD version which was slightly better. In fact the sound is exactly the same as Neo Geo. Earthquake was still missing though.

  • good classic game

  • there is a 3D remake/sequel coming to XBLA soon. it looks really good....almost like soul calibur. SamSho could dethrone Soul Calibur in the 3D weapons genre if done right.

  • Edge of Destiny? Isn't it going to be a retail game?

  • @vgmaster9

i would prefer a retail game but i think its just download only.

  • There are actually two SS cames coming soon. One is the original SS for the XBLA as well as a new one called Edge of Destiny.

  • EXCALIBUR

  • I bought this game for $2.99.

    Samurai Shodown (Mega Drive/Genesis)

Graphics: 7/10 (Earthquake & his stage are missing, so is the arcade win quote art)

Sound: 9/10 (Great music, and 108 Sound Effects!)

    Game play: 8/10

    Fun Factor: 8/10

    Overall:32/40 (8/10)

  • EXCALIBUR

  • that 2 sword guy is on my neogeo snk vs capcom game. bonus olympic mode. ;D

  • yes it does

  • how can you call this game obscure? this is one of the greatest 2d fighting franchises ever.

  • @TheSchoolWorld Go to your local GameStop, stay for an hour, and ask people if they've ever heard of Street Fighter and/or Samurai Shodown. Come back here when you have the numbers.

  • gszx1337- i didn't say it was more popular than sf2. i said it was one of the greatest franchises. learn to read. i bet if you ask those sf2 fans they'll all say they've heard of samurai shodown. most people have. calling sam showdown obscure is ridiculous.

  • @TheSchoolWorld Looks like you need to learn to read. I said to see if they've heard of Street Fighter, not Street Fighter 2. I never implied that you said that SS was more popular than SF2. The point I was trying to make was that gamers know of two fighting franchises: Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter. Many gamers do not know of Samurai Shodown.

Samurai Shodown may not be as obscure as Waku Waku 7 or Truxton, but it's still obscure.

  • gszx1337- my point is that sam sho is just as famous in the gaming community as sf and mk. obviously, people know of street fighter if there's a 2. if it was an obscure game, it wouldn't have more sequels than the sf series. it's still running today. [and its gotten better. unlike mk] anyone that has owned a genesis knows of sam show. they might not have owned it personally, they might list it third after sf and mk, but they know of it. an obscure game is more like darkstalkers or vectroman.

  • @TheSchoolWorld It's not just as famous as SF or MK. It seems to be in the same field as Gradius and Sam and Max. If the person in question knows about the genre, they know of the game (people who aren't into point and click games probably don't know about Sam and Max). SS wis known amongst fighting fans, but a gamer that's not into fighters probably doesn't know about it.

Also, just because it has sequels, doesn't mean it's not obscure. (Darius and Gradius have about the same number of games)

  • I don't know about Darkstalkers, but I think Vectorman sold pretty well, so I'm not sure if that game would be obscure.

Obscure is a relative term. Some people consider anything that isn't as big as Halo or Ratchet and Clank as obscure, and some wouldn't even list Radiant Silvergun or Astal as obscure games.

  • @gszx1337

Waku Waku 7 is pimp lol.

  • this is my favorite fighting game but the snes version is a lot better i got used to the buttons better but samurai showdown is the shit and i bough the last copy of the anthology in my local gamestop lol

  • The Ainu people in Japan were sort of the equivalent of Native Americans in the US; an indigenous, hunter-gatherer society. I'm not well versed in SamSho, but I'm guessing Nakoururu has that sort of background.

I mean, as long as we're going off on tangents...

  • Why were you talking about movies in a Samurai Shodown review?

Terrible review of an awesome game.

  • It's a fairly decent review, but you get sidetracked WAY too often. Focus on the game! Nobody wants to hear about Transformers or Jean Claude Van Damme.

  • all the samurai sho games are to slow.

  • Nice transition relating the birds to Transformers. I was worried for a second that you were going to get lost on that tangent, but you managed to come back smoothly to the review.

Looks like they are going to do a Snake-Eyes vs Stormshadow movie, which will probably have a video game. It's called Ninja Assassin. Now, I'll have to go watch Shogun Assassin to see if they compare.

  • LOL, I spent 80$ on this from diehard gamefan back in the day. Never actually saw this sold in stores.

  • stinky

  • lone wolf and cub is the shit

  • you get to play the arcade ver. in the ps2 anthology ver. WARNING! A VERY HARD GAME TO PLAY! in normal mode I took 83 [or about 2:30 hrs] continues just to beat it in one sitting. I was soo pissed!

  • Hey look at it this way

in terms of challenging game play, you Definably got your moneys worth.

  • I used to like this video game !.

  • i feel your pain mark

  • the best fighting game ever!! im playing Anthology like crazy on my PSP. So addictive!

  • I hate the whole "x-treme" stuff too.

  • I got this on my Sega Genesis!

  • stei on topic gui

  • Lmfao! My little pony? What random tantrums, This is what makes his reviews so fun.

  • genesis version who cares

    neo geo or fuck it

  • This is one of my favorite Mega Drive / Neo Geo games ever ;)

  • NO...YOU'VE LOST YOUR BALLS. Van Damme ftw

  • Showgun Assaisin owns. You have to watch it.

  • Mark, i request a review of Vectorman, X-men 2 clone wars, and Strider on Genesis!!!

  • i realy didnt like this version of Samurai Shodown,,...

i liked the Neo Geo version much more.. because it had the zoom effects......

and te sound was much better.......

  • SS1 was a classic,No 2 was even better, but the series went downhill after 3 for me.Especially Samurai Shodown 5 was an unbalanced mess. The new Edge of Destiny game looks promising, although the series appeared dodgy so far in 3d versions. We'll see...

  • 1 is the best. 2 had a lot of stupid things I don't like (and they drew Nakoruru uglier too), 3 is too serious but has strong damage which is not bad, 4 is alright, I like 5 a lot as it is a nostalgic rehash of those stages in the past games and balance issues are inconsequential.

  • @johnwx777 what i love about it is the ss1 is as challenging as ss2 seriously it could be even harder, though wan fu is far more badass in ss2. I love the computer intelligence of the game, the normal setting(level 4) is nothing to fuck with.

  • Why isn't there a Highlander fighting game?

  • this was one of my fave games, i mastered all the chars and whupped all my friends, and i agree at shogun assassin, incredible movie that everyone should see

  • Can anyone Tell me What ALL Of the Chars on here?

  • Only samurai shodown game i own(this one), i like Kod, and Sf more.

But im getting the Samurai shodown Athology for wii.

  • this version is way better than snes version

  • I prefer the Super Nintendo version as the manual is better and has colour among other positives in the game not visible in the Sega Genesis version.

  • Maybe, but the NEO-GEO version blows them both away hands down in every single respect.

  • When I was a kid I was so desperate to play an perfect port of SS but the neogeo was always too damn expensive. The genesis version was the one I owned. I had rented the snes version b4 dat and thought it was horrible; camera was always zoomed out and it just felt nasty altho the sound was better on. the thing that bothered me the most about both genesis and snes versions of the game was the missing animation.lots of frames were taken out and (mostly on genesis)it slightly changed the gameplay.

  • mark...what is up with you? the "gun" in shogun is pronounced "goon"... you think a fan of japanese trash cinema would know that...

also, how come you seemingly don't know about the great samurai shodown series? it's one of the more unique 2D-fighters and pretty refreshing compared to all those SF2 and MK clones. you also sounded quite bored, even though the port showed some great graphics and smooth gameplay on the genesis. huge sprites plus excellent sound effects. what more do you want?

  • i'd appreciate it if you wouldn't force your opinion down my throat. contrary to yours, mine is at least based on actual game experience. you never played the game, or else you wouldn't have called it just "another fighter with fatalities". the game has a totally different fighting style and feel to it than other games from that time. btw, it has no fatalities, wise guy

  • make your own review if your so pissed.

  • it's called feedback and stating an opinion.... that's why the commenting system on youtube exists. just because i point out flaws, doesn't mean that i have to make my own review. the logic alone is flawed. by the way, i'm as pissed as you're skilled in using proper grammar...

  • Wow comment on the grammer, that original to do when you cant think of anything else to say. soo y dnt u scut elong,

  • you're not too clever, are ya? trying to ignore my arguments by concentrating on the little analogy at the very end is an impressive demonstration of either ignorance of how to counter my argumentation or illiteracy...probably both...

  • So you dont like spelling mistakes eh. Yu ned to get layd big tim. Your the won whose bringing up the argument iin teh first place. Mark owns, you can clearly see that in the comments. Your just pissed that your channel is no where neer Classic Game Room. Let me guess your response will be "blah blah blah illiteracy, democracy etc etc". Its the holidays my friend im not too worried about my spelling.

  • Comment removed

  • exactly what does my channel have to do with game reviews? and why would i be jealous about a guy again that does this professionally, while i'm doing what i do in my free time? also, i didn't bring anything up, because you made your spelling weakness of your own language pretty clear yourself. on the other side, you replied to me first, so try to put some sense into your asinine comments. i suggest pulling your head outta your ass. that should help you to stop talking so much shit...

  • Shhhhhhhh. You did not start your paragraph with a capital letter, dear, dear, dear, you must be quite illiterate. How about you keep quiet and just watch the review. So he didnt like certain points thats the whole point of a review. As your mother says if you have not got anything good to say, dont say anything at all.

  • Okay true, the 3DO version also contained scale-zooming. But seriously, who bought a 3DO over a Sega-CD at the time? No one.

  • the sega cd version didnt contain the zooming screen. I bought it back in the early 90s and was pretty disappointed. They also ommited earthquake. It was 10x better than the snes/genesis version but no where near as awesome as the 3do version (which I also own)

  • Yes sadly I remembered it did not contain that feature. Puzzling, since the Sega CD was capable of rotoscope and scaling techniques, as shown in their other games.

  • He should find the Sega CD version. I had it and it was definitely the superior one to all the other console ports. Better graphics and sound. Also it was the only one to have scale-zooming from the arcade version!

  • ps2 collection just came out ordered it a few day should be here soon cant wait to play this game again

  • Nakoruru is harder when you fight her in Capcom VS. SNK 2 :P
