The translated Smallville DVD sets don't include this intro because the translators are too lazy to "edit in" the translated words into the animated menu. So they use a still image instead. In the episode index menu, numbers are used because the titles aren't translated and there shouldn't be *any* english when you're buying a DVD set in the language you want it in.
@Minaperu yes the us blu-ray. I also have a few UK DVDs and I think from the fifth season and up there were no more intros like this one. By the way Season 1 , 2 and 3 came in a great DVD box and from season 4 it was just this little mini amaray thing that didn't look any good. I think that season 6 didn't even have episode titles or music in the main menu, just the picture of the menu.
@Dead8Artist it's probbably because you have a pirate version how many disc's it bring? if ti bring 6 it's the official but if it bring 8 it's a pirate version the one you have

@dellago10000 It might of been one of the worst seasons of the show but it's still Smallville. I'm a TRUE fan, no matter how "bad" it might get i'm still going to love the show and support it. OH and PS season 4 was the best :P

How about that shot when he carries Tess in his arms from "Plastique?" only in slow motion. Not to mention other action scens they could have put in: Clark electrocuting Linda Lake, Clark leaping with Tess from the plane in "Turbulence" and Clark racing in superspeed to rescue Lois from "Committed" Anyone agree? This intro SUCKS!

Furthermore...why not incorporate scenes such as Jimmy snapping the picture of Clark as the Red-Blue Blur? The Legion of Superheroes performing the exorcism on Chloe to get Brainiac out of her? Clark and Tess flying out of the burning airplane? Clark flying to the building to stop Zatanna's evil spell to bring her Father back from the dead? Lois, as the Stiletto, jumping through the skylight to save Clark from the mob? Tess unleashing the orb to get the ominous warning about Kandor?
I don't think they wanted to spoil certain episodes. Certainly you wouldn't want a picture of Jonathan dying in the Season 5 DVD intro, or the fortress falling on Lex and Clark in the Season 7 DVD intro?
This is, without a doubt, the worst opening for a Smallville season...it's lackluster...I was astonished when I bought my S8 DVD a few days ago. Why would they use these horrible scenes? Why not use Faora throwing Clark out the window, Kara flying to Kandor, Martian Manhunter flying Clark to the sun, Zatanna?, Doomsday throwing Clark across the barn at Chloe's wedding, Doomsday carrying Chloe to the fortress, Persuader attacking Clark, Clark & Lois flying in the crystal to the Phantom Zone??!

she is not the female lead. Just because she is in Sv from the begining doesn't mean she is the main female lead. Before Lois it was Lana as she was Clark's first love and now its Lois as she is clark's future wife. Chloe character was just invented for the show and certainly she is not in the mythos of superman so def. she can't be the mail female lead. I love chloe and allison mack but putting her as a female lead is out of question.
I think they put Erica in the cover because she is Lois Lane, superman's future wife, and she s the iconic Lois Lane so. It's really sad to see how the producers would not put Chloe in the cover of any season. Allison has been there since the very beggining, for me it does not matter how long you've been there but for the things you have done, so she as Erica deserve to be in the cover of any season, it's time for Alliso!! Just because she's not iconic doesn't mean she can't.

Not there enough. He is only in one scene from the video intro, then two pics of him. I mean, he was a serial regular and the "supposed villian of season 8" why not show him more? These people have a srious issue with the Davis characters. No wonder why they killed him off as, making us believe he was psysho. That sucks for all of Davis's fans, I include myself.
It think there's two Sam's in the video intro. That's him for a brief second at 0:08, and then in monster form at 0:19. For analysis, the only characters who appear more times in the video or slideshow are Lois and Clark, (though Tess gets three slides). And that's it. He appeared roughly the same amount of times as Chloe, Jimmy, and Oliver.

the UK dvds dont do these intros anymore, just use a still picture of clark from the cover :(

This intro isn't as exciting as the first couple of seasons (I haven't seen the ones for season 6 or 7), but they could have used better scenes.
