  • I can't believe this was 6 years ago, and melee still rules <3 melee<3

  • noob commentary xD

  • we need m2k to come kick some ass

  • @TheLocoman209 "fucken" is not a word, and if it ever was, that's not how it'd be spelled.

  • Beautiful....*Sniff* just beautiful! I loved that!

1 reason im on kens side is cuz hes a fellow Marth Main

My gosh this is so epic!!!!! ive only been in 1 smash brothers tournoment in my entire Life! at that was a SSBB tournoment Peleminarys held the day b4 its realease

I would kill to go to another tourney!

  • Wow, Man. I wish I could pway dis fast. lol. I bet my mouth would be open the whole time cuz I'd be all concentrating like an idiot. lol

  • @BRONST0N Don't be disencouraged by that. PC puffs his cheeks when he plays. lol

  • not trying to be that guy but at 3:07 it seems like marth had a good opportunity to forward smash pc and end the match there. agree/disagree?

  • omfg tupac between the 2 guys in 0:21

  • @thelocoman209 seeing as you would write a comment like that i would say you're a "fuken fagget" you jealous child

  • holy fk idk why but i got really nervous lol

  • @Kamaka2345 i know why

because u thought u were one of them or u were on someone's side.

  • @TheLocoman209 i remember you being the best g

  • @TheLocoman209 i think your jealous that you suck ass

  • @TheLocoman209 So they're the fags but they're making money and you're on your computer going on videos just to be negative? I think you just mad bro.

  • pause at 0:01

  • best game ever

  • Is it weird that one of the commentators (I probably spelled that wrong) reminds me of vince from the slap chop commercials?

  • good lord pc chris is jumping all over the place.

  • i really wish homemadewaffles was commentating

  • "Human type"

    Still makes me wince lol

  • my god that end was intense

  • 2006= glory days lol

  • Does anyone know who is commentating here?

  • @Shoopman47

probably Jason. He didn't really go by another name that I recall. He worked for MLG. He was just "Jason" on the forums i think.

  • AHAHA, Everybody Hates Chris xD

  • Marth vs Falco wasn't really a good match up, Falco has advantage. That aside, I'll be honest when I say that no one can beat me in Super Smash bros. These guys play good but they can't even use air and ground dodge that well. It's really helpful when you master those moves. Moreover, If they could make SMB online gaming on par with xbox and Ps, It would be a lot of fun.

  • @Lexman00 ArrogantFag is arrogant.

  • Comment removed

  • @SparkSSBM I would love to play any person who claims to be good. In fact, I would very much like to play everyone I can in Super Smash Bros. That is why I said nintendo online gaming should be as good as Xbox live and Playstation so that the competition can be like that of games such as FIFA, C of D, and Halo. I personally like playing with 5 stocks and with the items deactivated, pure fighting.

  • id love to play you sometime and that bore of a game brawl has online play (laggy online play at that^ also there's N64 smash online. and sorry for blaming you for being so confident sometimes i forget every smasher is a cocky douche

    <3 community

so who do you main in melee?

  • @Lexman00 You couldn't beat PC or Ken.

  • @Lexman00

    AAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahhahahaha .....

  • @Lexman00 This is Melee. Air dodge is not infinite and leaves the user vulnerable, which in turns leaves them open to countless other attacks. Ground dodge, while not as bad, is still easily punishable by people of this level. In other words, it's not that they haven't mastered these techniques, but they instead just choose not to use these dodges--because they have better options.

  • @Ariphilus I could still beat these guys. I hope the next generation nintendo console has great online gaming and another SSB game so that we can all play against each other. That said, you do realize my comment is over 3 months old right? One has to know when he shouldn't respond to a comment anymore. Just saying.

  • @Lexman00 Well, the thing is that a lot of people say that they could beat these guys who were considered professionals at this game and it really doesn't mean anything if they haven't played against these guys or won against people in major tournaments. Playing at this level is really different than most people would expect. I do agree that the next-gen Nintendo console should have better online, which could make these type of debates much easier to settle.

  • @Lexman00 Also, I was not troubled to write a reply nor did I think the time gap was too significant. I'm simply exercising my freedom of speech like any American would.

  • @Ariphilus Dude, are you serious? You talk about this game as if it's something complicated and hard to be good at. It's not. Games like like Street Fighter and Tekken are more difficult to be good at. As I said already, let's just wait for the nintendo online advancement. Last, responding to my +3 MONTH comment isn't about freedom of speech, It's about COMMON SENSE. It doesn't make sense to respond after such a long time. You mad bro?

  • @Lexman00 No, I'm not mad in particular. I was merely expressing my opinions like other Youtubers do. If I offended you, I apologize. Yes, I believe that this game does require a measure of skill to be "good," I wouldn't know about SF or Tekken because I don't play them, and I agree that this debate would be more easily settled with better online support for Nintendo. And I don't understand why it's such a crime to respond to a 3 month comment. If I bothered you greatly, then I'm sorry.

  • @Lexman00 You'd be surprised. There are people way better out there, but they don't go to tournaments. Ken's the best of tournaments in the world. But no one will ever know who's the greatest. There will always be someone better, that's the balance of life.

  • @SkyPhyre2

    you're a retard.

There can't always be someone better. Cool logic dipshit

  • you can't prove that there isn't somebody better. if you can travel around the entire world and have every single person play and NOT beat the best, THEN you can be right. For now, you're wrong. Deal with it

  • @Stridershadowclaw You can't prove that. I rest my case.

  • @SkyPhyre2

How can't I prove that there can't always be someone better? the logic is broken.

Say 2 people existed in the entire world.

One of those people will be better then the other at something, but by your logic that's impossible because there isn't anyone better.

It doesn't matter how many people you use, there will be a point where there will be the best player.

    /your logic

  • @Stridershadowclaw I understand your point, but there are so many people in the world practicing, you'll never know. People are getting better every day, some faster than others. Records are broken every year by different people, but even then, you can't be sure they're THE best. I can tell that I could probably argue with you forever, so let's give it a rest.

  • Lol, two guys playing smash with like 10 people behind them is considered a tournament?

Starcraft in Korea draws tens of thousands of people, this isn't even close.

  • It is ridiculous watching how far Falco has come as a character since this tournament.

  • 1:22-1:28 = awkward reverse timeline.

  • @cmondefeatme

    LMFAOO!!!!!

  • Where is he now?

  • @PiloGHosT because they like the game.. duh.

  • is ken the commentator? sounds like him

  • PC CHRIS!!!!!! =D

  • the commentary sucks...

  • @iChocolateAddict You probally just hate the fact he called ken King of Smash

  • 0:50 Should've used a reverse(d) dolphin slash

    2:33 Should've used an ADA

  • does that about ur control? i guess thats a noobie coment XD that i dunno is that Why is (PC) i mean does he always using a PC????

  • After watching this it's amazing seeing how Melee has evolved over the past few years. It's a testament to how much depth Melee has, especially considering it was released in 2001.

  • wait, how did ken choose the stage? there wasn't stage striking then was there?

  • @LiangRome it was random

  • they didnt wavedash once this whole match...when did wavedashing become big in tournaments?

  • @iamdirectlybehindyou ken wave dashes twice in the first minute. once after the second grab. and a second time to get the ledge hog.

    0:46 - 0:53

  • @iamdirectlybehindyou 0:49 0:52 watch Ken's Marth closely. PC @ 1:15 Ken @ 1:41 and so on. No point in mentioning the lack of wavedashing in any matches nowadays. Useless argument starter.

  • lol "Ken is playing marth... who's got a big sword."

  • Hahahahahaha 3:34 Ken puts up his arm to celebrate, pc looks over and he's just scratching his head.

  • Halo is a console fps, it failed before it started.

  • you're dumb

  • Let me guess, I hurt your feelings. Cry more it won't make consoles better than pc for fps... or anything game related.

  • haha lmfao, here we go again with a PC gamers thinking PC's are better than consoles. You can sit at your computer and play, while I can take my console anywhere and play with friends with controllers on my bed or couch and chill on my 42 inch HD flat. PC games are too easy to pirate anyways, the PC gaming industry is falling fast.

  • You know what a lan party is right? Eh, not going to further argue my point, anyone thats played an fps with joysticks and then with a mouse/keyboard will know that consoles come out inferior to pc's. Sorry you can't realize that because your head is so far up your ass, guess "mine is better because it's what i have" mentality will have to do for you.

  • you're saying Halo failed? Then you are an idiot indeed

  • @AnarchyGuy6 It did, it's a terrible game to play on console. What made it successful was the fact that it brought in every casual kid with an xbox.

  • Comparing a shooter game and melee is idiotic... in terms of sheer "tech" stuff, theres more in melee yes, but its infinitely debatable over reflexes and "counterpicks/strategies"

  • PC however is playing a character with alot of power, FALCO!

  • Falco? Power?

  • Ken is using Marth. He's a human type character, he's got a big sword.

  • at the end, ken raised his hand in the air cuz he won and no one really payed attention haha, so he pretended to scratch his head

  • That's a rather belated fist-pump.

  • @savge25 haha that is painfully awkward

  • as amazing as the commentary is nowadays, this is some really good shit.

  • its really something how different this match is than m2k vs shiz at rom. the current competition blows 07 pros away

  • please don't talk about brawlo in a damn ken vs pc melee match xD

(i play brawl too, but these matches make me forget what brawl is.)

  • the good ol days

  • Your name clearly says why you said that statement.

  • indeed.

  • Yeah but your too busy being a noob at halo3 aren't you?

  • i used to play this like 4 years ago or something

holy SHIT these guys are good, this is CRAZY

    like its fucking nuts

  • It's so funny hearing serious sports discussion over a video game, not something you hear everyday.

    I like it.

  • We all like it. It's SSBM!!! There's MONEY involved! =D

  • lol @ censorship. get raped.

  • Melee is not balanced. Everybody knows that

  • To Jakester12621: No way. Brawl+ is NOT balanced. I think it breaks the game too far. Meta Knight was enough.

Plus, think about those who DON'T use hacks.

  • What do you mean "think about those who don't use hacks?" That was random. And how is Brawl+ not balanced!?

  • damn u nintendo

  • i loled when they said, "He's a human type character" hahaha

  • I was expecting something about a "bird type character".

  • By the way, Brawl was never meant to be competitive. It's supposed to be a party game, and it's a lot better than melee in that regard. Melee, however, is a damn good competitive game. Probably the most difficult around.

  • your stupid lol

  • I like how people still abuse Brawl, just shut-up and play Brawl +.

  • B+ isnt that good of a game. The DI is too limiting and the movement is the same as brawl normally. the only difference is the combos, which are pretty boring and kinda broken. all in all its about as good as brawl.

  • its more fun than vBrawl, and you clearly haven't played enough of it, or played too early a version.

  • They're constantly updating it. Eventually, it will be as awesome as melee

  • so you fall faster and there is more knockback, whats so awesome about that? everyone is as floaty as jigglypuff but has the DI of sheik. they would have to increase weight by a large amount and they would also have to give more DI options. each character should feel different, which sadly none do.

  • There isn't more knockback, genius.

If you want melee, play melee and quit bitching, but one thing brawl+ is is balanced. A lot more so than melee or brawl. You will be able to play as your favorite characters with a fighting chance to succeed at a high level, no matter who they may be.

  • i meant hitstun not knockback, my mistake.

no, b+ isnt more balanced than either game. the game wasn't even attempted to be balanced, afaik. its all about playing for fun, which is really what you should be doing no matter what.

but yea, melee is the most balanced, just because there are more ways to trick and outsmart your opponent. even if you play a bottom tier character, you can still hold your own vs top tier characters (even sheik!) if you avoid certain mistakes and punish theirs.

  • good support to your argument.

  • You're attempting an argument by analogy, except your analogy is irrelevant and inaccurate. You might as well make the argument, "Ken is Vietnamese, so Bowser has to be the worst character in the game."

  • Then why are you replying each time if this arguments a complete "joke."

  • ^ ^ I miss you more reaction to falco after bounce

  • its not that brawl sucks, its just in brawl you cant really get combo'd, cause you can air dodge right after you get hit, so it fucks up the combo, melee you cant air dodge till like 2 seconds afterwards so you get combod like hell

  • no, it's that brawl is a piece of garbage

  • brawl is an aiight game. its how they intended melee to be, a fast spacing game with little margin for error but minimal repercussions for each mistake.

  • noobking in tha house!

  • these commentators should be replaced with HMW and Phil

  • YEAH AND I'M IN ONE TOMORROW BITCH

  • yea

  • ooh man i can tell that this game is better and faster than brawl.

  • the announcers are fucking annoying damn

  • the where on there dragon ball z sht

  • This so called "shit" is harder then Halo 3 dumbass.

  • Your shitting me right? You need to do alot more then you think.

  • This involves more skill but halos more stragetic

  • Now that is True Halo is more stragetic.

  • Are you guys misspelling on purpose? That's tragedic.

  • Well Its youtube its not like a Grammar contest or something... Computer slang/ misspelled words are aloud...

  • L-cancelled aerials oh man, so broken

  • Ken the king of smash

  • Ken should have taken the first stock.

    Why didn't he roll up?

  • lol @ guy who thinks people win by relying on chaingrabs

clearly, he doesnt know how to get out of those chains and got raped by someone haha

  • Stop trying to argue coherently. This is Youtube.

  • good point.

  • Using advanced moves like this have become part of the smash community and if you find them to be "cheating" or "glitching" know this...

L canceling and Wavedashing were discovered in the BETA before melee was released but was intentionally left in the game.

If you choose not to use them, fine, but don't judge others for playing the game as it was meant to be.

Besides if these techniques didn't exist, we'd all be playing a very very shitty and easy game. (Brawl)

  • it seems like mabye they just didnt have the time to fix them or just didnt see it as that big of a deal, so decided to wait until brawl. the game could have at least shown these techniques somewhere. are the characters all equally good at these techniques? for example, it seems like aerial attacks are favored because of the short hop fast fall technique. what if your character has terrible aerial attacks is was meant to fight on the ground?

  • Sigh, yes they certainly 'fixed' things in Brawl. Note however that teching was left in the game. And just like L-canceling nothing in the instructions tells you about that. So it's not that they changed all the 'advanced' aspects, just a few. Chaingrabbing and overpowered moves are far worse in Brawl.

  • well then you can assume that the only one theyre okay with is teching.

and id rather have it that way.

in this video there are just l cancelled aerials and chain grabs. i think they simplified the game by making the other moves obselete, rather than making it deeper.

  • 'rather than making it deeper.'

This is the key. They indeed decided to make the game less deep but they left a lot of broken stuff in. In Melee combos and chaingrabs kinda cancel each other out. In Brawl there's no such thing. Which is why competitively it's such a bad game.

  • no its not.

just ban the chain grabs, they shouldnt have been allowed in the first place.

the old melee glitches were at least hard to do, they shouldnt have a no skill equivalent.

brawl took out most of melees glitches. the next step is to get ban chain grabs in all tournaments, would it not be balanced then?

  • The next step is to play melee.

  • Chain grabs should never be banned. If you know that your opponent is going for a grab, it shouldn't be that difficult to fend them off. For instance, if you're playing against the Ice Climbers, they're going to take every chance that they can get to land a grab. Taking this into account along with the fact that they have awful grab range, the Ice Climbers can become very predictable and you can easily punish them for failed grabs. Just make sure to watch out for the desynching...

  • You explained the situation perfectly. Ice Climbers game is completely focused on landing grabs, while yours is staying out of range. That's what I mean when I say it has become degenerate. That type of fight is too boring and centered on one strategy. I think the characters would be more balanced and the fights would be more interesting without chain grabs.

  • Well, I guess I can't argue with your opinion, however I disagree with it. The fact that your opponent knows that you are going for grabs will lead them to take precautions against you getting a grab on them. Because you know this, you can decide to not grab, and instead do something that they aren't prepared for. But, who knows, maybe they'll be prepared for the "not grabbing" option instead. Sure, the metagames of the characters are degenerating a bit, but the mindgames are flourishing.

  • I see what you mean. One other thing I dislike about chain grabs is how much they affect the tier. Some characters become practically useless because of being too vulnerable to chain grabs, or lacking a good chain grab of their own. It seems Nintendo is barely aware of this tactic and really doesn't care to balance it. So we end up with characters like Ness and Lucas that are sometimes unplayable because how easy they are to chain grab.

  • Nintendo unfortunately doesn't seem to give two shits about tourney-level gameplay, hence why Brawl turned out to be a joke. They probably just sit around a table and think 'oh yeah that move will look cool, let's have that, ooh and that'. I won't be surprised if Metaknight's whirlwind hits with the strength of a baseball bat in the next game.

  • I guess that explains how they came up with tripping in Brawl.

  • I think they did actually make an effort to make it balanced, I mean there isn't much that's completely ridiculous(aside from glitches and developer oversights like CGs). I think their main concern was making the game a fun party game, which it is. it's better than melee in that regard. They also seemed to concentrate on making the characters' moves and attributes fit them, and they did a great job there too. It just isn't a competitive game.

  • 'there isn't much that's completely ridiculous'

lol metaknight and, to a lesser extent, snake. I agree with you on the 'fun party game' point though.

  • i agree. When i wanna play a competitive game with other ppl at my level, i pull out melee or smash 64. If i just wanna play in a party with a bunch of ppl at various skill levels, I pull out brawl.

  • You can't really blame Nintendo for it. Of course they know about the tactic, but chances are they didn't know about many of the games CGs. I'm guessing that they didn't worry too much about technical details, though, because Nintendo's really been gaying us lately with just about everything that they do. In fact, I'm considering giving up just about everything that Nintendo has put out since the Wii.

  • Chaingrabs are and can be deadly some characters like the ice climbers are all about chaingrabs and can rack up a ton of damage but you know there grabs are there strong point so it's predictable characters like mr game and watch have very unpredictable throws so ti very hard to tell where he will throw you but at least he is unpredictalbe some characters in melee can combo after they throw some one example dr mario, jigglypuff mario, marth, roy, peach, pikachu, pichu, cap.falcon and sheik.

  • It would be insanely hard to make a good fighter where every character is equal. And about the advance techniques, they were intended and left in, that is the point of the competitive level of games, using techniques that arent just in the handbook, to make the gameplay more intense.

  • theyre exploits and glitches. i really doubt they meant to keep them only to take them out in the sequel. it makes some characters and moves obselete, which makes the game simpler. notice how only the super fast aerial fighters are chosen and almost no ground attacks are used (other than chain grabs of course). is the game really that bad on its own that you have to play it like this?

  • Sakurai didn't keep them just to take them out in Brwl, he just wanted Brawl to be less competitive of a game to appeal to a wider market. L-cancelling isn't an exploit, it was intended to be in the game, has been there since 64 and was even in Nintendo Power. Wavedashing is an exploit that makes the game more competitive. Without these things the competitive scene would be lacking.

  • l canceling is alright then.

but wavedashing is unnesessary and probably one of the reasons ground fighting is completely obselete, all you do is hop up and down, replacing running. and it seems to make all characters the same speed. it doesnt matter if it makes the gameplay faster if its a broken part of the game that wasnt meant to be used. any glitch can be of competitive value, so thats a horrible way to assess them.

  • So you're saying that if you're playing for large sums of money and you can choose to either have a chance at winning by using something that is "broken," or you can definitely lose by not using it, everybody should choose the losing option? Besides, something is only broken when it's unbeatable. Everybody can wavedash. Why do so many people have a problem with wavedashing. It's one more element of the game that adds speed and adds to mindgames. For god's sake people, get over it.

  • oh god dont even bring up that mind game bullshit.

prediction is not skill, its a guessing game and is a luck factor in fighting games.

pros are so stupid theyve convinced themselves that theyre psychic and know exactly what the opponent will do.

    thats impossible.

im not saying you should go lose a tournament by not using them, im saying they shouldnt be allowed in the first place.

  • lol no......mindgaming is seeing how you're opponent plays, making them think one thing so you can come with another, giving you the advantage. And about wavedashing, if anything wavedashing increases ground game and every char is not the same speed because WD lenghts differ...........it's not like it totally changes every single thing in the game it just speeds it up.

  • its still based on prediction though.

you guys should probably just put the game on 2x speed and use every glitch if you really just care about how fast it is and how many techniques there are.

there is a perfectly fine video game underneath all the glitches you use. if you dont like it the way it is, dont rip it apart and make your own game out of it, play something else.

  • Mindgames are predictions that are not skill.

so let me get this straight. If you and another person have a weapon, say a sword, and your both equal in skill in the use of this weapon, it comes down to who has the quicker mind and can set the other person up first, provide an opening, and go in for the kill.

This also means that chess does not require skill.Thats all about being ahead of your oppenent and setting them up. Go tell a chess master that his game requires no skill. I will lawl
