  • what the hell is it with the music in the foreground? um? post production rubbish in a production studio? how odd?

  • just another example of background music abuse. and by a musician. blah.

  • check out my channel for more vids on chord progressions and melodies.

  • get that background music off! can't hear the man!

  • Let the song have its own life, dig it.

  • backround music is irritating.

  • best advice so far

  • stay awake to the things that motivate you, that is some great advice for real.

  • look i look at songwriting this way:every song, every musical piece, every chord progession, every melody, represents something. an emotion, a person, but something to YOU. if you wanna write a good song, than first off have an instrument your comfortable with, that you know, and then think of how that emotion or event or whatever would sound if it was music. think hard, and once you figure it out, if its quality, just set out completing it and building it. LET THE LIFE YOUVE LIVED DO THE WORK.

  • i took these tips into consideration and came up with a song. its in my vids and possibly in video responses if the video owner accepts it

  • "it's a pure expression of... not much" thats a good quote

  • Great insight into the songwriting process! I'm making a series of songwriting videos for my youtube channel, come check them out and see what you think!

  • good talk

  • Agreed, except I don't particularly care for Glover's voice. Living Color just remind me of Extreme, Kings X and a whole bunch of other late-80's light rock bands.

  • Watch the live performance of Time's Up fro the early 90's. i would not call it light rock

  • @ProblemWithTheTrucks- Light rock? King's X light rock? What the fuck?

  • Comment removed

  • right and the band was called Living Colour

  • smart guy. good tips can be applied anywhere.

  • Get rid of the canned background music so we can hear what you have to say

  • yeah I know i'd like to be able to focus more on his talking and not the background music. They could've just turned the music down a notch and his voice would've come through so much better.

  • Fuck it's annoying trying to listen to him with that background music going on...

  • nice tips

  • That's the way I like it is Zen? Never thought so. Songs come to me many times as complete. I mean verses and chorus. They are so different it's almost scary to think about where they're coming from. If I have an idea that isn't working it's usually because it's not worth writing and for me not worth building a catalouge of idea or licks that didn't make it.

  • Oh, writing songs is kinda funny. we make em up that's all plain and simple. either you gotta feel for it or you don't. and either you got access to all the gizmoes and biz connections. you got it made. blah blah blah.

  • Thank you !!It is so refreshing to hear you say that. I cannot bear theSE assholes who state the fucking obvious time and time again when it comes to how to write a song. AHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!Either you can do it or you FUCKING CANT LOL...Its that simple :@)

  • I love how u stated that!! LOL.. its deinitely something u have to be born with dont just get up one day and decide you wanna write a song.. from ppl that i know who THINK they can write.. they try it out then it sounds like shit, they reallize it sounds like shit and then they get frustrated. This is my passion so its easier to relate with what vernon is saying, it is a very frustrating job. I know I'm not famous but my best advice could be BACKGROUND VOCALS!!! they make the song sound full!

  • thanks dude maybe take a listen to my songwriting on my page ??

    Gav :)

  • You can actually grow into the songwriting process. It has nothing to do with being 'born with' anything. You may be 'born with' a greater desire, and may take to writing songs easier than others, but it would be foolish to give up after a few attempts because you weren't 'born with' it.

  • What he said about focusing to hard and losing the inspiration does happen to some. Stepping back sometimes could actually help ya finish the tune and bring back the heart. Good to know.

  • What's the song in the background ??

  • nice tips

  • shame about the backing music

  • Very interesting. Thanks for the post!

  • that's the way - uhuh uhuh - i like it - uhuh uhuh

    excellent stuff

  • it's a pure expression of ... not much. Wow!

  • That man is a genious, i love you explains things with metaphors.

  • Vernin is good in making good mix between Jazz and Metal!

  • vernon mixes jazz, funk and heavy metal, successfully!

  • wtf is the living colour videos?

  • LOVE
