40% of homeless teenagers are gay teenagers who have been thrown out of their house when they came out. - Where the hell did he pull that statistic out of? I've been working with runaway youth for almost a year now and that is the biggest load of crap.
@SlimShaney08 Actually he said "THEY'RE a chicken shit" - not "THERE a chicken shit". And I do hear where you are coming from; at first that statement sounds callous. But I don't think you got where he's coming from. Ultimately it's about societal responsibility and personal ethics. He's harsh in the way he says things, but the things he says make sense.
Homosexual activists understand the power of words.
Please visit my channel to watch a one-minute video clip in which popular atheist author Richard Dawkins admits that homosexual activists "hijacked the word 'gay'".
The word "homosexual" is more appropriate and accurate because it, unlike the word "gay", actually describes the behavior/attraction/relationship being discussed.
The word "gay" helps homosexual activists push their agenda.
I like you Dan but Im almost 26 and I still havent come out to my family but my friends and coworkers know. I'm in my 3rd year relationship with this guy (he is 100% out) Believe me when I say that my family is homophobe. Sometimes I want to come out but my partner & friends beg me not to do it because they know my family. My point is, you can be 30 years old and still be closeted to your family. It's not about being a "chicken"
@Redst100 then why havent you come out. Do they support you with money. If they arnt then the worst that will happen is that they dont talk to you and ignore you. if they are as horrible as you say they are than you shouldnt care what they think, they are shitty people and you are better without them.
PASS? wow I PASS for a christian when i'm working, all the time because it's polite to pretend I belive in your crazy shit. I PASS for a makebeliver. How stupid.
The worst thing Dan Savage has ever done is to describe GOProud activists as quislings. I'd rather see Savage hanging at the end of a rope than any of my fellow gay fiscal *realists* in the US.
@PosthumousAddress Lolz, homophobe pretending to be gay to get people to take him seriously. Typical. Go fucking hang yourself you bigot piece of shit.
@ShaneMacgowanFan93 Go fuck yourself loser. What are you, a 17 year old nobody who hasn't even been to college yet, who probably hasn't even had a blowjob, you're going to lecture me about what I am and am not?
@Snoep76239 All I wanted to know is whether anal sex hurt passive guys. I got to videos of Dan Savage talking about Santorum. What has Rick Santorum done? This guy Dan Savage is obsessed with him.
@taxiride1 Anal sex does not hurt as long as one goes slow and uses enough lube. Dan has said this many times. What has Rick Santorum done? Besides what he's said (that gays sex is equal to pedophilia and bestiality), you need to look at what he's TRYING to DO; making all sex except man-on-woman in-the-vagina sex ILLEGAL. For straights and gays. Plus no abortions and no birth control for ANYONE, and no sex-ed for teenagers. America is supposed to be about freedom.
@Snoep76239 I wiki'd him. So I only have one more question and then I'll leave you alone forever. Santorum is still in office. If his views are so abhorrent why do people still vote for him and why is he still in a mainstream party? In Britain he'd either be voted out or thrown out by his party.
@Snoep76239 Well said Snoep :-) If I were a US citizen, I'd want an AR-15 in my house for when the American Taliban comes calling. Oh, and one for my boyfriend too.
You don't HAVE TO come out as gay... just like it's not a requirement to come out as straight. It's a personal choice. So I don't see how that makes someone a coward for not doing it lol.
This man is a hero to gay people. Many gay friends of mine have told me about his sense of humor making a difference. No one could ask for a better movement. Humor to understand what we should know about ourselves as people. I dig this dude. Gays are important to America as a sign of our freedom. I think he's a good contributor to our homosexual friends in the United States. He's a good man.
You can be 'out' and about, yet still live a dishonest life with next to zero integrity. It is a personal decision, nobody has nay right to judge anyone about coming out of whatever. People must realize that life is tough as it is - nobody needs an army of selfish and overzealous queens schooling them about coming out. Trust me: nobody would want to remain closeted - it is what you must do sometimes, and that doesn't mean you are a worthless piece of shit.
He is just the type of gay who wants everyone to be out, because he believes in 'strength in numbers'.If there are 50 gay men instead of 10, then his idea of 'community' will be better equipped and prepared against right-wing attack.
When in reality, you only live for yourself, and whether you are gay, bi or straight is your own business. If you do not wish to announce it to the rest of the world, then you should not have to.
@calaftheeast He wants being out to be SAFE. He wants homophobes to deal with the fact that most love someone gay, to NORMALIZE a normal variation of humanity. Sure, some live where gay people rightly run the fuck away from ie much of middle America (Atheists flee that turf, too) but Iowa has gays too. He also wants people to be happy. You can't make your lover happy if you are lying to them about your orientation&look at Rekers: self-loathing bigotry DOES hurt others. We don't live in isolation.
To all people who complain that his advice is bad....
He gives advice to as many people as possible, and he is speaking from his own experiences and knowledge. Whoever took this advice as personalized advice and acted to it without adapting it to their own situation, are DUMB !
You cannot expect one way to work for everyone, so try to learn usefull things from this guy and use those in your life. OR DONT, and adapt them to your life.
I agree that Dan was referring to "people in their 30s who've known they were gay for a decade or so."
@DoMadrid, sounds chicken sh*t to me. Since when do you abdicate doing the right thing because some other people aren't doing it the way you approve? And, assuming you have an accurate read on things--instead of a distorted, internalized homophobic read--don't you think everyone would be a LOT better off if more of those "normal" gays came out to balance "the queens"?
The excessively narcissistic, flamboyant, hypersexual-addicted image gays portray and present as an "identity" is one of the major things that kept me in the closet for a while. My sexuality is part of who I am, not my identity, and there are MANY gays I wouldn't have anything to do with let alone identify with them! Perhaps addressing that more often would make contentedly concealed closet cases to show their faces. Otherwise, the closet seems like a valid and better option for some.
Ouch, Dan! So, you have no sympathy for gays coming out after 30? Whatever happened to "it's never too late to come out"? I respect your opinion, though.
@toxicomental I think he was speaking from experience and saying that at that point they should be showing their family that if they don't come out then their family still doesn't accept them for who they are because they don't know. If their family doesn't accept them then they didn't accept them anyway. For a 15 year old who are living with their family and could be potentially sent to a camp to be taught to be straight then it seems to be a far more delicate situation.
@toxicomental I think he was generalizing. There are some of us who do not come out until we are in our thirties because it never crossed our mind that we might be gay until that age. :-)

Some people want young white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very small sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.
If you click on my name “awhitesoul2012” highlighted in blue below this comment, you can watch my video.
Thanks.

I remember being furious at Mr. Savage early on in his column writing when he addressed hetero relationships.
So glad he re-focused and ended up where he is now.
What a wonderful example to young people - gay and straight. :D
