After running an engine dyno for years, there isn't anything about Pontiacs that I don't know. I know, for example that low RPM GMC truck engine (Pontiac, look it up) is good for boats. The chain slides nicely through the gap between the intake and the valley making it perfect for an anchor. That I DO know. Try buzzin' that 3'' main bearing slug 8500 like a Chevrolet and you'll shovel that bottom end into the scrap barrel.

@CrudeDude hey buddy, My firebird will smoke any chevy at half throttle...yea your little 350 chevy will put out 375-400hp but only at 350 ft lbs of torque....now a 400 will match that hp probably go above it AND THEN have close to 500 ft lbs of torque. so how about you learn something about pontiacs before bad mouthing them.

hey im working on a 79 firebird and as of now it has a 301- but i hav in habd the 305 eng- with a 350 turbo tranny- how can i get about 400 hp outta this 305? thinking on a turbo- would it be woirth it?

dont bother that motor is no good no matter what you do to it you can get a junkyard 400 and put a stroker kit in it and get 400 plus for less than $2500 and that is less than a turbo and the 305 still wont be there .

Its basically a stock 400 i put a 296 lunati cam in it and a decent set of 4x heads edelbrock performer intake and an 850 demon carb. Right now im installing a turbo it should be done soon ill post some vids.

The smoke is from the leaky valve covers there is no rod knock it had a dead spark plug it had a miss sounds better than your gay naked gto

i had that happen on my gto i just sprayed both heads with that high heat ceramic silver header coating then a light clearcoat of engine enamel everywhere except in that hot region.. nice carb by the way

if you put headers it should reduce the temp by a couple of hundred degrees the manifold restrictive design creates that super hot iron but who cares as long as it runs good

That's awesome. I just rebuilt a 1970 400 4-bolt main, bored .40 over, slightly higher cam, and put on an edelbrock manifold & carb - we just got it started yesterday. I dropped it in my 76 GP. Now, it's time for putting all the small things together (wires, brakes, etc).

Anyway, badass firebird. It's going to be REAL sweet when you're done working on the turbo. I like the color scheme of the engine. I don't see many Pontiacs painted green - it's cool, new look.

The bottom end is completely stock i pulled the 400 out of a grand prix checked the bearings they were ok so i slapped a set of 4x heads on it and a 296 lunati cam. Its basically just a test engine for the turbo if its works out ok ill build a stout 400 probably a stroker.

Dude, I know a guy that has made a 71 GP go 5.5 0-60 and prob high 13's with just a stock pontiac cam swap. hit me up, he loves to help. my 71 Formula is about .3 faster now in the quarter thanks to him. and will at least that much faster when I get the parts.
