I like the video, a lot of white wash though. I say it this way if you fail to plan then you plan to fail, Having fun is OK but pay your way. Do not let society bear your debt be responsible for your own life and debts.
@Smithpolly Oh Yeah! That is the other side of the coin. I know, I lived it! I'm just saying that life isn't all about play, it should be about doing something useful too!
Minimalist work to me involves removing the "clutter" of the day and focus just on work to get it done quickly.
In my own case, I see my fellow employees spending their entire day chatting, playing on the internet and doing "just enough" work - 8 hours of waste in my opinion.
For me, I minimize the unnecessary parts of the day (like the chatting) and get my work done in 3-4 hours maximum. I'm the top seller in the company and I don't have to sweat it. This is minimalist work.
Life to me is about finding balance-I agree with the minimalistic concept & try to find that happy balance between doing the things that make you happy & doing what is needed to be responsible. I also agree that in our own way we should contribute something back to society.
I do however plan on saving money in an emergency fund, and I will need to keep in mind to put away money for when I do get old as dirt. But, there's one thing I don't understand. When you say we must contribute to society, contribute how? By working for big companies? Were you just talking about contributing in terms of having a certain job?
@AjaTrinidad What I meant by contributing to society is not necessarily working for some big company. Let's say you write music, but due to minimalist ideas about work, you only compose one song a year. You could do more, but that would interrupt your skateboard time, or whatever.
I just meant that some people could use the minimalist work idea to not do what they could to make the world a better place!
@TheFungeezer Ok, I understand. I definitely agree with the minimalist lifestyle, but I would disagree with a situation that you're describing. So I get your point. :-)
I actually want to thank you for your perspective on this. I'm a new minimalist and while I don't want to "play" all day, I do want to work hard on my online business (sites and blogs), and use my free time to learn and absorb information so that I may use it to help others. When I was working "regular jobs" I barely had time to sit and read and do things of that nature. B/c I'm 25, I tend to not think that I'll ever get old as dirt so I never thought about what you were saying before. (cont..)
Totally agree...thanks

On the other hand, you can do the sensible thing all your life and then "Congratulations, you're the lucky owner of an Enron pension."

@InvisiMan2006 See, that's just what I'm talking about! You get things done. Some people think minimalist means working as little as possible!

You are so right! Balance is key!
