Awesome vid. What's your ftg. Cuz I'm getting metal to metal noise from the front every hard turn when I lowered my car. I heard this is fixed with the fk shorted sway links, true?
Iv just noticed how big wheel arches have gotten. You could cram a grown man into one of the ones on that golf. I mean there are family hatchbacks driving around with wheel diameters bigger than that of an SUV.
@vwtania Used when needed, when you turn wrenches as on occupation you have a pretty good idea of what you and each of your tools can produce for torque. Torque wrenches are saved for the most critical measurements.
true about the new GTI must be said, this car was announced as a economic fuel consumption car, and it is until the point of use as a transportation to take the kids to school and a trip to the supermarket. The official data about consumption is some 8 to 9 liters, maybe 12liters in sport mode. They lye because i spent a quarter tank in a small drive using the paddle shift and driving like PS3, the onboard computer was registering 41,5 liters p/Km.....
I think upgrade in software chip to increase hp is bad politic. What i really like is the improvement in the hardware parts like exhaust air filter, suspensions, lights, tires, and so on down the line. As standard i think it´s ok, i still haven´t cornered and handled it as brave as i would like you know why? I think the vwgti2010 is too heavy and the worst is it is too tall, my previous bmw coup was down to the ground as a 911.
I really like the idea of team installations. The extra set of hands can speed and ease the process and greatly reduces personal injury or property damage.
I could see how this could knock out an installation like this in a couple hours, which could be a real selling point to a customer waiting.
Thanks for the reply, I have another question. I noticed on the rear suspension MK4-MK6 they dont have the coils over the struts. Is that why my buddys mk4 has a better ride then mine? But! his mk4 jetta handles really shitty compared to mine. I have a 97 GLX with neuspeed sports and bilstein sports though :)
@JoshChadwick the MK1-MK4 use a solid rear axle, the MK5/6 have independent rear suspension so they are superior handling. The separate shock/spring still requires a coilover perch/shock rather than a conventional coilover shock design.
@kirkieb1111 At our shop we charge $350 for MK5/6 coilover installations including alignment. Rear swaybar install is one hour or less if we're working on the rear/suspension or exhaust. We don't usually recommend the front swaybar but if you want a labor quote its about $250 for the labor.
@gtstunt11221 Larger front bars cause the front end to feel heavier and can also cause plowing (sometimes called understeer) the larger rear bar makes the rear end more planted and also active if driven in such a way, both of which are more desirable so we tend to recommend rear bars to pretty much anyone, front bars not so much. If you'd like a heavier feeling front end and can live with the added understeer (think of the car wanting to go straight as your entering a corner) try a front bar.
Nice vid! You guys made that look too easy. Shop and employes look tidy. Must have been nice to work on a car with only 88 miles. No corrosion and rusted bolts to deal with.
Thank you, fortunately on the west coast we don't have rust most of the time anyway, but working on a brand new car was certainly a very clean experience.
@cuddlypoop If its anything like the DRC system on the RS6/RS4 it would effectively remove it by installing coilovers. We did not get the adaptive chassis control in the US.

hows the ride?
im thinking about installing these on my 2010 golf but i dont it too bumpy.
also when you install coilovers properly, can you expect some things to break because of the rougher ride? (ex. ball joints, tie rods, etc.)

Does the front have upper control arms like the audis now? Or is it still just a lower cause it doesnt look much different from my mk3.
JoshChadwick 1 year ago
@JoshChadwick No it uses McPherson style struts and a lower control arm like the MK5, similar to the MK3 in basic principal.

about how much would the installation fee be for this suspension kit and both front and rear sway bars?

Can u tell people why not to get a front sway bar on these cars please some people go ahead and do it anyway thinking its good for our cars.

Quick question - does changing the suspension affect the car if u have the adaptive chasis control option?
