@Israfvel Thats because the current generation are so poorly booked and marketed, and are controlled so much by the wwe in developing their character and what they can say on the mic, that nobody cares for them or relates to them. That is why Punk stands out.

But I'll assume that this is in fact a reply to that, and say this: I have no doubt that creative has its faults, but the fact is that you cannot book everyone to be a main-eventer. Not everyone has the qualities you look for in a main-event talent; either he's extremely limited in the ring, has a crappy gimmick, shorter than most of the roster, can't or won't do promos, or doesn't exude enough charisma.
Another thing: you can get over even with a mediocre gimmick if you improve on other facets. It doesn't necessarily mean you get to the main event or even to a mid-card championship, but it does help the WWE make money, and the WWE values that sort of dedication to your gimmick.
@Israfvel to add to my comment, Cena has had anti-Cena heat from the half the audience on almost every Raw for over the last year, thats just obvious. He had the first 10 minutes on the live Raw in London to shoot a promo, and got booed with the kind of heat that some of the best heels in history have failed to. His fanbase is stronger at home, hence "lets go cena/cena sucks."
He's getting a solid reaction. It may not be the kind of heat that a face would usually want, but think of it this way - would Punk's shoot and everything that came after have made its impact if Cena wasn't getting this kind of reaction?
@mmscott9 If you take Jack Swagger, they pushed him too early, had terrible booking as world champion (as did the Miz who was about as credible a champion as Mantaur), and gave him a neo Kurt Angle schtick gimmick which was just ridiculous. Sheamus should be more over if not for being horribly inconsistently booked over the last year. The talent has suffered because the WWE has attempted to keep up a clean cut image, which means they have had little freedom to develop individually
If Jack Swagger had it in him to get over, it would've showed even with the crappy booking. Look at Santino for instance: nothing more than a jobber, but extremely over with the crowd. It's got nothing to do with being clean-cut or edgy, but with mic skills and charisma.

Have him face somebody whose reputation wasn't built during the Attitude era or isn't a crowd favorite - say, Miz or R-Truth - and you'll find that Cena gets plenty of LET'S GO CENA chants. The divided reactions are pretty much exclusive to matches with guys like, say, CM Punk or the Rock.

But I'll assume that this is in fact a reply to that, and say this: I have no doubt that creative has its faults, but the fact is that you cannot book everyone to be a main-eventer. Not everyone has the qualities you look for in a main-event talent; either he's extremely limited in the ring, has a crappy gimmick, shorter than most of the roster, can't or won't do promos, or doesn't exude enough charisma.

Another thing: you can get over even with a mediocre gimmick if you improve on other facets. It doesn't necessarily mean you get to the main event or even to a mid-card championship, but it does help the WWE make money, and the WWE values that sort of dedication to your gimmick.

@Israfvel to add to my comment, Cena has had anti-Cena heat from the half the audience on almost every Raw for over the last year, thats just obvious. He had the first 10 minutes on the live Raw in London to shoot a promo, and got booed with the kind of heat that some of the best heels in history have failed to. His fanbase is stronger at home, hence "lets go cena/cena sucks."

@mmscott9 If you take Jack Swagger, they pushed him too early, had terrible booking as world champion (as did the Miz who was about as credible a champion as Mantaur), and gave him a neo Kurt Angle schtick gimmick which was just ridiculous. Sheamus should be more over if not for being horribly inconsistently booked over the last year. The talent has suffered because the WWE has attempted to keep up a clean cut image, which means they have had little freedom to develop individually

When he debuted, he was just another generic no-name no-gimmick wrestler who showed up to stay toe-to-toe against Kurt Angle. Then he was given the wigger gimmick and became so successful he became the top face and top draw for the company for the last six years and then some. But of course being a wigger didn't cut it with Vince, and so he gave Cena a more well-rounded goody-two-shoes gimmick to suit Cena as face.
