Accent................from the perspective of us folks around here, it is you who have the accent, not us. The difference being, we don't really find humor in the way you talk. But we do try. No offense (really). ;o)
This man was such a treasure. Does anybody know where I could find recordings of his story telling?? All I've found was an audio cd on Amazon with four tracks on it. Surely somebody recorded him.
@jerry36031 Hi Jerry, I was a little confused by the @. Only comment I made was to RocksRevenge, he kinda ticked me off saying the accent was hilarious. To me Ray's voice is like music, it's like being back in Tazewell visiting with the old family. I could listen to Ray's stories for hours.
I know what u mean. I was 4 yearz old (or something like that) when he died. Ray is (was) my uncle. I din't know him.... But I miss him. His son is still alive! :) I see him when I go to see my grandparents. (I MISS THE MOUNTAIN A LOT!!!)
We really miss Uncle Ray too,We are his keenfolks. Ray is my husbands uncle. My husbands parents live right up the road from his house, they live on top of the mountain in Banner Elk .I wish I could have meet him while he was telling folk tails, but I meet him when he wasn't that well. Rosie his wife is a very old fashion lady, very sweet.
We really miss Ray! I knew him for about 40 years and my husband for about 10 years more than that. We recently visited his widow Rosie on "the back side of the Beech," and his son Ted in a nearby convalescent home. This is a good video of Ray. It brings back many wonderful memories. Thanks Alan Lomax Achive!
I wish my children could have met Ray hicks. This man is an icon within my family and he is greatly missed. I hope my kids get to meet him again one day. He was a dying breed of real GOOD people. Ray, you are missed.
I have been looking for this guy for a while but had forgotten his name. I have read a lot about him but this is the first time I have listened so good work for putting it up.
So Precious... I just love it.... Don't see this anymore....
