After all the shitty fucking teenage years I and I'm sure many others had to endure. This song and band in particular would be so soothing and calming after another shit day...While people were going nutz over Nirvana and Pear Jam ( which by the way were and still are great bands) this was the music I would turn to...once again this was truly the music that could tamed the savage beast in me...Thank you sincerely for the upload....it's been too long.
a guitarist friend of mine who wasn't even that big of a fan of this band once said of this song, "That is God playing the guitar - and even if it was God playing it, he'd probably screw it up."
I think Jeff started smoking too much weed. This led to these types of "sleepy time" indulgences - as opposed to the heavy stomp of stuff like The River - as well as his belief that Scott Stapp was a significant musical figure. I mean, how many bong hits would a guy have to do in order to come to that conclusion?
@35thedog no no...the one uploading this shit is a fag...he s sitting right next to me every fucking morning in the same office where we work together...i can tell u that he s definitely a fag...he also has a huge dewlap and he wears bigger shoes than his actual size...he s disgusting...
I just saw Jeff Martin last night solo in Hamilton ON.
He was absolutely amazing. Played a bunch of older TP songs and he definitely hasn't lost it. He also mentioned that he has been talking to the other members of the Tea Party and that they may be trying to settle their differences and come together again. This would be amazing, and I hope it happens
Sure, for the dipshits out there that don't matter. They probably saw it simply as some stupid tea party. Little did they know that a 'Tea Party' was a beat generation get together, ala Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, etc where anything and everything was discussed and debated all while under the influence of 'recreational pharmaceuticals'.
The ones that didn't know the meaning are the ones that never mattered.
@HallowedHoly That's just what people have said. I've never read an instance of any band member making any direct correlation. "Jeff Martin once answered in an interview: When William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac [founding members of The Beat Generation poets] would get together in the late 1940's and early 1950's and discuss philosophical ideas, write poetry and smoke hash, their code word for it was to go have, 'a tea party' "
They were a great band, but yes you are spot on dude. The name definitely had part to do with the marketability. The other part is that the music was too complex for the simple minded peons of today's music buying public. They did well in Canada, but were God's in Australia and also pretty big in parts of Europe. Jeff Martin is such a talented player and writer.
@greenblueprints Two words. Mainstream music. That garbage always drowns out the real music around the world. In my opinion, it's music like this that should be on everyone's ipod instead of all that bubble gum pop and hip-hop trash.
@greenblueprints Because The Tea Party is Canadian thats why their not more famous....but the ppl who should know do know and will know....lets keep it that way
@greenblueprints If I had to guess, I'd say it's because they tried to do more popular, classifiable stuff. Transmission wasn't terrible, but it just didn't have the soul of Splendor Soils and Edges of Twilight. I recall Jon Stewart saying to Tom Waits that the reason Waits was so formidable was because he just did his own thing without really caring about fitting in. Early Tea Party had that same thing, but lost it at Transmission, and didn't really get it back before breaking up.
my last name is Badger in case ????????

@veedub87 And Jeff as a poet, lyricist & artist would love a name/title that deals with multiple meanings, so...who knows... : )

Some words should be kept to a self. Name calling is too far from successful communication.
