Yes slavery was the fuse the set off the war but the cause was the issue of a federal government that wanted to over ride the sates rights to legislate their own destiny. Had Lincoln not called for 60,000 troops to invade the Southern States there could well have been a peaceful solution. The common man did not enlist to keep slavery but to defend his home. Plain and simple. Both sides screw that. Had Lincoln not called for 60,000 troops to invade the Southern States there could well have been a peaceful solution. If I only look how our goverment rules it counties by raising taxes and economic measures that doom us even more. If I look at the bank policies and the coruption. The reason the Andersonville is assumed a horrible place was because at the time the Union Army closed in on the South which mean that the Confederate soldiers were only getting food by getting stuff in the wild, the P.O.W.s were suppose to be getting the same rations as the Confederate Soldiers, but seeing as the Union army either burned or took their crops the Confederate Soldiers had to find their own food. Now the Yankee's starved the Confederate Soldiers on purpose, the North had everything
