Is it wrong if i install a Intel prosessor and has a Radeon Graphics card? My old prosessor has 3,1.... And the Intel is on 5,1.. Will it be better? (Laptop)
Does it matter if it's a dual core/ quad core processor? Or does each Motherboard support different cores in that regard.
For example I have an i3 single core processor in my computer right now, I know it can take an i5, but not an i7, I don't know however if it can take a dual core/ quad core.
@Xadanar a good dual-core processor will allow you to play the latest games (Skyrim, for example). I'd recommend the AMD Athlon II X2 (dual-core) processor. System bus speed of 4000 MHz according to AMD's website. Though you probably have an Intel motherboard, so go for an i5, which is also a dual-core processor.
And replacing the processor is simple enough. Let it fall into place, don't push it. Apply thermal compound, not too much or too little. Don't worry about it if the processor already comes with it. Lock the heatsink onto the motherboard and screw in the fan, plug it to the motherboard, and viola! You saved about $80.
@2290Sean Look up your motherboard on newegg or something. That way you'll be able to see all the specs and compatibilty. For example, mines compatible with AMD Phenom X2, X4, X6 and a few other ones.
so your telling me when i update my cpu i just unplug it and plug a new one in, haha I had a feeling that it was this but i did not think it would be so easy
my amd ii x2 220 has am3 socket so can i replace it with the amd phenom ii x4 quad core 960t black edition run in ths socket its am3 aswell but will my motherboard run it
I do have an old Intel E6600 Dual Core, I am planning to upgrade my CPU to a new i5 2500, I was wondering, do I have to upgrade the power supply in order to do so? If not, in what case a power supply upgrade is required? Upgrading to a more powerful GPU maybe? Thanks in advance!
When I install my dual core intel pentium processor on my intel motherboard. It won't even start up, But when I put the original processor in. It starts up. What is a possible problem?
do you have to reinstall this OS after install new CPU or is the bios automatically updated once you boot the system, i have a dual core AMD AM2+ chipset and am thinking of updating to a 4 core AMD CPU
@skellytoon273 thats an AMD motherboard, so it only takes AMD processors, so to answer your question, No.
also, thats a motherboard for a slim/mini tower, so making a supped up gaming machine might not happen with that motherboard, (thats if your tryin to play games like CoD:MW3, Battlefield, Dead Island, ect. ect.) if your doing it for like Sims 2, typhoon, or games like that, you should be ok.
@gtamission100m It's a dual-core processor. Most of the newer games have dual-core processor as a minimum requirement. Quad-core is recommended, but dual-core is more than enough.
I got a P7h55-M pro board and today i finally went and bought a new core i5-2500 processor, because I have seen everywhere (even in the handbook) that its compatable with i5 processors, but thwne I came home I found out something horrible, it didn't fit -.- the two dots on the side didn't fit, what can I do?
So i have a AMD athlon x4 635 but want a Phenom x4 965 My socket is AM3 and the phenom is AM3, Can i just replace the CPU and not worry about replacing Mobo as well?
do you not need to clean the cpu if brand new? i noticed a lot of other people cleaning it with rubbing alcohol or something else. is this unncessary, just put it in and put thermal compound on and then fan and it's good to go?
I'm thinking of building my own, although the whole process of installing the CPU really worries me. I can't afford a mistake & I'm likely to make 1, true I could just buy a computer but I'll be spending more in the long run to upgrade it rather then just building what I need now. So I'm still not to sure what I'm do, but I gotta decide ina week.
@danerdsskaters Yeah I decided to buy a prebuilt 1 lol. It costs around the same & has similar specs to the 1 I was goina build. Now I just gotta make another 100 bucks so when I actually buy it I wont be flat broke.
@danerdsskaters Yeah, for what I do building 1 wouldn't come much cheaper until I got in the 1k range. I kinda doubt I'd ever need a computer that beast either. @TheOriginalRuskin Well, thats not good. If it was made at the factory it should, but if you put your pc together make sure to get one, of your going to destroy your CPU. And they dont cost that much, actually.
ok, I installed a new chip but when the Computer starts up. the Computer runs for about 2mins and then turns off. also there is no power going to the Mouse or keybored when this happens.
Now Power isn't the problem because I also just got a 850W power supply. and the chip I have isn't anything needing a lot of power it's only 3.0ghz Deuo.
I'm guessing the chip is not meant for the Current Motherbored., but that's my guess. anyone have any idea?
@Dogmeat1950 check the processor type and the motherboard socket type...i recently had that problem with my build, i bought an intel core i5 which was an lga1155 socket type and an intel motherboard that was an lga1156 type, go to intel and look up your chip and motherboard they have a compatibility checker. i ended uo having to get a new motherboard but now my system runs perfectly....im suprised it does too because i built the whole thing off of youtube videos lol
Thanks dude i have a OLD computer its from like 04^_^ It has Windows XP and intel inside 4 So i want to just upgrade it so what your saying is i could just buy a intel i7 chip and it would make it better spite the fact it has 200 Gb?
@eskimO3184 Umm I don't know much, but I looked a few things up about upgrading it, and if you want to go buy Intel i7, you'll probably have to get a new motherboard. Especially with an old computer like that.
It depends on your motherboard. You have to look up what socket your motherboard has. Now the processor youve selected has an AM3 socket (as the name already says), so you have to have a motherboard with the same socket. hey what's higher than intel pentium d 915? i have the money to upgrade into decent ones but i wanna know my options. i would get a new mobo to upgrade to i7 but i don't game hard with my pc.
How many times do you think he says "prong". Especially when it isn't a prong like "this is a 3 prong connector...", not it's not! It's a 3 'pin' connector
My current processor is by Intel. I guess that means I should upgrade with an Intel CPU. Also, do I absolutely HAVE to change my fan? Or can I keep the fan I have now?
well ive looked at all wires and havent noticed anything lose or out of place .. i thought i might of blown my board as i didint use any earth tool .. but surely if the fans workin the board is ok ?
hey need some help .. i brought a new cpu after installing it i turn my pc on and nothing boots up .. no bio'os menu no boot option .. so ive but my old cpu in and the same is still happening .. im gttin power to the fan thats above the cpu so still could it be a motherboard issue ?
@drterrybrown this may sound obvious but did you pull the lever down on the processor? it sounds to me like it's just an issue of something not being tightened. do you get a video signal at all? that'll determine whether or not it's your video card too. the biggest thing you can do to troubleshoot is simply isolate the problem. figure out where something would go wrong. think about it from a logic standpoint.
hi i just got my new chip .. i watched the video they havent given me any hea sink ive just phoned up a shop asking them for a bottle and they said it all depends on the proccers to see if its compatible.. is this true ?

@mustang96100 How can I tell if the fan is compatible?
starboomer11 1 year ago
My current processor is by Intel. I guess that means I should upgrade with an Intel CPU. Also, do I absolutely HAVE to change my fan? Or can I keep the fan I have now?
starboomer11 1 year ago
would you think upgradeing from a 1.60 ghz to a 2.13 ghz prosssors would actually make a diffrence?

hey need some help .. i brought a new cpu after installing it i turn my pc on and nothing boots up .. no bio'os menu no boot option .. so ive but my old cpu in and the same is still happening .. im gttin power to the fan thats above the cpu so still could it be a motherboard issue ?
drterrybrown 1 year ago
@drterrybrown make sure all your cables are tightly plugged in.
joshemane 1 year ago
@joshemane well i noly unplugged 1 cable and thats the fan one .. and the fan works fine
drterrybrown 1 year ago
@drterrybrown this may sound obvious but did you pull the lever down on the processor? it sounds to me like it's just an issue of something not being tightened. do you get a video signal at all? that'll determine whether or not it's your video card too. the biggest thing you can do to troubleshoot is simply isolate the problem. figure out where something would go wrong. think about it from a logic standpoint.

I have another question if I have a Heatsink that came with the computer and it already has thermal paste do I have to replace that thermal paste?
Gerome63120m3 1 year ago
@Gerome63120m3 NO don't replace it, Check it about 3 to 6 month later if it gone then you add it more thermal paste on it.
