  • thats some epic planking

  • leckie182.for real ur the guy on the floor behind the drums?????

  • DAMN!!! Dude in front of the drums is PLANKING back in 2006?!?!?! He must be from the future!!!! HAHAHA

  • respect for the planking guy=D

how can you plank an entire SOTY song?

    DAMN GOOD!!!

  • Was that guy's objective to plank an entire SOTY song?

  • Good music on TV...this must be what other planets are like...

  • PLANKING PIONEER!

  • The guy in front of the kit is probably because the bass drum is slipping everytime he kicks it. It would fall off the stage if the guy wasn't lying there.

  • @leckie182 Nope dude, thats me actually my name is Guy, I have been to a billion SOTY shows and they grew to know me over the years that they have seen me front row at their concerts, so they asked me if it would be cool if I did that because they are freakin weird and they thought it would be funny. I have remained friends with them and everytime I go to a show they always bring me on stage or bring me backstage. they are amazing people, its a shame they arent bigger!

  • They are AMAZING live!!!!!

  • story of the year > metallica

  • the only thing that makes this the best live preformence ever...is the guy lying infront of the drum kit.

  • anyone else get chills when the beat drops at 3:14

  • The best ending to a song I've heard...and the lyrics are perfect. Such strong meaning

  • ive asked myself why that guy is laying in front of the drums for about six years now.

  • GOLDFISH!!

  • Your Not Even A Man Your A FGgotive Witj

  • screw the seven people this song rocks

  • how pathetic, 7 people rather listen to JUSTIN BIEBER than this.

  • haha

  • this song is RIDICULOUS. I can't believe it's this insane live...

  • @viirevox what are you talking about?! I think YOU need to look up the lyrics, here's some just to knock some sense into you!: Do you really think That it's a choice, a way of life? Played by discrimination You're narrow-minded, quick to judge With Bible belt tunnel vision... ....Rejected, forsaken, for being born... ....I can't believe that this is still a question That needs an answer A bigot's eyes judging lives Based on the sex of who you fuck!.... Now tell me it's not about being condemn
  • dude, epic song. best part is none of them are gay but this song is clearly about condemming gays and how its fucked up. <33333

  • @TheCASTskater lol... okay, you're either being extremely sarcastic or ignorant. go look the lyrics up someplace. i'm really hoping you're just being sarcastic. O_o

  • @viirevox

how am i being sarcastic or ignorant??

He's saying how it's fucked up to condemn people for being who they are.

  • @TheCASTskater your first comment wasn't entirely clear, viirevox read it wrong, but you both agree on what the song's about... as do I (it's not hard!)

  • Story of the Metallica....

  • Goddamn, I fucking LOVE Dan's screams.

  • going to see these guys in two weeks in Melbourne, hoping they finish on this song, If they do I'm going to loose my freakin mind in the mosh pit.

  • @stuart5137 They used this as their final song when I saw them about 3 years ago. I hope for your sake they finish on this song again. You know you see a fair few concerts and one or two songs really stick out as highlights. This is one of mine. It will blow your mind.

  • @shell0689 - Yep they finished with that song... my neck is still sore today from the chaos it created in the mosh pit. love every minute of it!!

  • Comment removed

  • THIS IS IGNORANCE

  • Goldfish and their struggle for freedom...nice.

  • LOL at the guy infront of the drums!! HAHA! but, seriously, SOTY is awesome!!!

  • guitar.... metallica..

  • I'm glad Story of the Year found their own sound. "Page Avenue" was way too studio influenced. It was amazing! But studio influenced. "In the Wake of Determination" and on... are pure, solid, raw Story of the Year.

  • i love the guy lying in front of the drum set xD

  • best band ever!!

  • @kecske18 That's an understatement.

  • is that guy playing the laying down game by the drums? awesome

  • Yea ... Like Metallica do anything like these vocals O.o

  • that green guitar is so sexy

  • i love how he goes "this song is about goldfish and their struggle for freedom" at the beginning. hahah.

  • Man, I can't get enough of watching/listening of this performance of this song. I like Ryan at 2:40- looks like he's got fire ants or something on him.

  • But tbh, the people who dosnt like it suxx, their music is fucking epic! Best band in the world imo

  • i think if their lead singer changed his style, it wouldnt match their kind of music .. his voice is perfect for it, and it has become even better now, which you can hear on their new song "To the burial" .. The thing that is holding them back is that they aint mainstream enough, srsly, its only all that pop shit and rap that sells good nowadays, they used to be huge back in 2002 in USA, but times have changed .. Plus they make more and more hardcore music, and people just dont like it =/

  • They released 'Until The Day I Die' and Anthem..." in like late 2003/early 2004. I'm glad they aren't too mainstream. I wouldn't want them competing with Britney Spears, Pink, Taylor Swift, Daughtry, etc on top 40 stations. Real talent doesn't get fair airplay, unfortunately, but us music lovers know where the good music is. Not that manufactured, shoved-down-your-throat sh|+.

  • I totally agree with you mate :)

  • @PhilTheEar it's music it's not about fame man..i like their music..if they get more mainstream they will probably not make the same music ever again..it's not about what most people like..plus hardcore is the best music to express most of their lyrics..it's not about what sells,it's about what they like to write..it's the way music should be..heart and passion not fame and money

  • Isnt that what ive said all the time??

Not to attack you or anything, but what i mean with "They arent mainstrem enough" is that they are making fucking awesome and epic music, but its the style the majority of the people like. Thats why they arent huge, becuase the rock / metal genre is something you rarely hear on the radios now =(

  • i like it. haha. and im sure most SOTY fans like it.

  • Story of the year has some of the best guitar riffs ive ever heard. There song writing is epic. The only thing holding them back from being "huge" is in my opinion their singer. His style is nothing special. Hes got like a screamo hardcore thing goin on which is what alot of bands are doing right now. If he would develop his own style and sound like the rest of the band has done, story of the year would be a truly epic.

  • why is that dude lying there? Otherwise this song is sooooooooooo AWESOME!

  • I love reading everyones comments on this vid, that person on the drums is me, my name is Guy and im good friends with SOTY, they asked me before the show if I could do something random during the set which I did as well during anthem i laid on top of their amps, I am not a doll like one person said and I did this at a few shows in the tri-state area lol this was filmed at FUSE studios in 05 in NYC, but please keep on with the comments I love the creativity....rock on dudes

  • SOTY ftw.

  • so was that you laying there in this video?

  • FUCKING SWEEEET!

  • Awesome, its kinda Metallica-like, but still a totally Story of the Year song, which makes it so much better! I love the intro!

  • This is my favorite song of their's! They kicked ass at Warped Tour when they sang it too!!

  • I love all of story of the year's albums but page avenue was the best. Now they are straight out rock when they used to have a punkish feel. and plus that was the only CD that they played on the radio... Soty rocks!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs they've ever done. I love every album though.

  • lol the beginnig reminds me of master of puppets

    anyway, I like this performance

  • oh yeah. for me it's more like battery. But it's a great song!!

  • why is the guy laying there in front of the drums?

  • @Ipukeonyourface777

    He is just sleeping. xD

  • @Ipukeonyourface777

If you have seen the "our time is now dvd" the guys wrap the drum tech up in duct tape and they lie him down infront of the drums lol

    Its hilarious

  • @Ipukeonyourface777

    cause he can.

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 Just to make people like you ask questions lol

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 PLANKING!

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 it's called PLANKING

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 hes planking

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 he invented planking.

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 Planking... so stupid.

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 Idk, maybe its cuz the bass drum was moving? Idk, i think thatd happen in a profesional stage, but could be the reason.

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 planking before planking was popular..hah

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 That motherfucker invented planking.

  • @Ipukeonyourface777 i believe he's planking....what a douche.

  • so pumped for the new one coming this fall

  • so powerfully

  • The reason the guy is laying in front of the drums is because he just passed out. Lol, jk. He's there to represent the "He,' that is in the title and repeatedly mentioned through the song. If you read the lyrics you'll understand.

  • Is this before, or after "Page Avenue?"

    It is definitely quite different...

  • i think it was after, but i could be wrong, i think this song was oing 2 b on the black swan, but they didnt...or else its a bonus track?

  • yeah, this song is on In The Wake of Determination

Which is after Page Avenue, and before The Black Swan

Written way before The Black Swan, so it wasn't going to be on it

  • After Page Avenue

The record In The Wake of Determination is a lot different than Page Avenue

They said that with The Black Swan, it's a mix of Page Avenue, and In the Wake Of Determination

    Which is really true

  • in ur opinion whch is ur fav of there 3 albums

my fav is in the wake of determination cuz it has its soft songs it has its HEAVY songs it has its catchy songs it has everything

  • In my opinion, The Black Swan is my favourite

All three records ARE amazing,, but they're different

Page Avenue is amazing for it's melodic qualities

In The Wake of Determination was sooo badass

But The Black Swan has both of those

Still very melodic, but mixed with badass solo's and breakdowns

I found that In The Wake of Determination seemed like they tried a bit too hard to get out of the genre they started in, so the songs weren't as solid as they could've been

  • yeah i loved the black swan but idk it had less screaming

i love the solos from wake of determination

and i love your point and agree with u on that they tried too hard getting out of the page avenue type

  • 'Page Avenue' came out in the midst of the emo era and took on the emo sound. That's when I was turned on to SOTY. I loved 'Anthem..', but then my other fave SOTY song is off their next album- 'Take Me Back', which didn't have that emo style. Page Avenue had that clean, fresh, innocent, new sound, but the subsequent albums are more rock. I like 'em all!

  • i would say Page Avenue is more about growing up rather then emo.

In The Wake i think is about a mixture of things,

the new one has some political songs, some about the world, some about problems i guess u could say

its just a good band all around they dont have a lot of restraints

  • this is after Page Avenue, its the album ""In the Wake of Determination"

  • 2005, 2 years after page avenue

  • hast du ne erklärung xD?! xD

  • why lying in the front of the drumsset a guy?

  • i'm wondering about that too

  • yea i dont get that either? i thought he was there for a reason.....soooo anti climatic....lol

  • i want all their guitars. espeicially ryans green prs that things beautiful.

  • goldfish and there struggle for survival

whats with the guy near the drums?

  • I love how the 2000's have had a huge increase of bands that sound better LIVE than on CD. People take pride in there showis because you dont make as much money selling cd's anymore. its more about the music than sales now.

  • Rofls. It's about goldfish and there struggle for freedom. ROFLS!!!

  • nice job pare

  • ya its cool

  • i like story of the year but they sound alot like metalica here

  • is that a bad thing? i mean if its st anger metallica then yes its bad but otherwise id take that as a compliment

  • great song and band. I<3 em

  • lolz wtf lying guy

  • hahahaha i know i was like wtf who is that

  • amazing! and lol on the dude in front of the drum set! XD

  • metal + old skool punk on the chorus. how damn creative, bitch!

  • s o t y has multiple genre. this one is kinda metal. and this song is sick fucking suppa great

  • worale que cool :B

    sexo for you fuck xD

  • Great performance and singing!!! Awsme song

  • their best cd

  • Wow. Scary performance :| I believe this is one of their best ever :D

  • i would have to agree

  • Whos that random guy lying infront of the drum kit?

  • haha well depends which way you're going

the string that in normal tuning is G is G on this song

  • dude i totally have my "facts straight"

every single tab has this song tuned the way i said and if you've ever seen them live you can see ryan playing on the frets 6-8-10-11-12-13 for that part on the 4th string which means that its tuned to G

  • it doesn't matter because you don't need them

i've actually played this song ON STAGE with story of the year so i think i know what i'm talking about

  • it doesn't matter because you don't need them

i've actually played this song ON STAGE with story of the year so i think i know what i'm talking about

  • sik song

  • omg cant believe i saw them live.

  • The drums where PERFECT!!!!

  • First of all, this song/performance rules.

Secondly, I made a video for this song and would really appreciate it if you watch it, rate and comment if you want.

  • wow did he just say this is about goldfish and there struggle for freedom?

  • Ehm, the so called guy in front of the bass drums is a doll.

  • i like metal but this is too good to dislike :) , but whats that guy doing in front of the bassdrumms? bit crazy, really not healthy fr your ears

  • I think that that guy in front of the drum bass doesn't really have a good faith, and he didn't ask them LOOL, por guy btw SOTY \m/

  • Burn....Burn....Burn....

    oyeah

  • G... goldfish? I thought it was about discrimination.Hah, silly me, right?

  • ok so whats with the guy in front of the drums through out the whole vid?

ryan has a prs custom 24 and phil's got that prs custom 22 or it could be opposite i can never remember

  • i think this is one of my fav story of the year songs cause it slows down an speeds up....oh yeah an its fuckin badass guitar too ha

  • please can anybody who knows reply at this comment!! I wanna know what the name of the guitar is!! (the green one) is it a Tempest? Im very thankful for an answer!! SOTY owns :D

  • PRS Custom 22 Lime Green

  • its his custom guitar Phil is always playing his custom, both made by prs. check out the new dvd and you will see! you will also see alot of other awesome shit!

  • also ryan,(the dude with the green guitar) names all of his guitars. right now he's playing "snake"

  • This song fucking rocks because it's about the death of goldfish

  • this song reminds me of Rise Against

  • Im trying to play this awesome song on the drums... this guy rocks at base drums! Omg its fast!

  • err right ? do you know anything of music ?

    this rox o.O

    Great song

  • >err right ? do you know anything of music ?

    Obviously.

  • are u fucking serious,

theyve never been hardcore or tried to be

if you look on there myspace the genres are clearly "rock/alternative"

but just for the record, story of the year have been around since long before hardcore came out.

  • Story Of The Year came out in 1982?

  • AHA! THEY DO PLAY IN C STANDARD!

  • C standard?!!!! they play in standard down half a step lol. C standard would be wwaaaaayy too low.

  • story of the year drops like linkin park, drop c#

  • They dont play in a drop tuning. They play in a standard tuning. But yea your kinda right.

  • "the Virus" is played in drop tuning. Drop C i believe.

  • This song is played with the High E, B, G Normal tuning and ur D string as E flat, A as B flat, and low E as E flat.

  • hmm i dont think thats right. this song's tuned with all strings a half step down.

  • they play in drop d

  • Nope, half step down. Eb Ab Db Gb Bb eb.

  • wrong again

its Eb Bb Eb and the other three dont matter

  • greaat!! LoOoOove! :*:*

  • im going 2 see them this friday!!

  • I saw these guys live yesterday.. They ended with this song.. Gives me goosepumps

  • lol it's so funny how at the end Dan lays on top of the dude lying in front of the kick drum. cuz of what the song is about. don't get me wrong, i love the song, i love this band, but i just think it's kinda funny.

  • Best SOTY song ever :D

but really ... who's the dead guy? xD

  • GOLD FISH

  • am the only one that wonders why this band is not on rockband or guitar hero???

  • I agree, they really should be

  • This song is about Gold fish and the struggle for freedom.

    LMFAO.

  • haha i was thinking the same thing.

  • i just got pumped

  • whats up with the guy near the drums?hes juss layin there.

  • That's my best friend Guy!!!!!!!!

  • waths that dead dude in front of the drums lmao

  • This is, in my opinion, the best song they've writin so far. It's just so full of this raw energy that a lot of their songs just don't have. This song really just makes me wanna jump in the pit.

  • What Album is this off??

Love Dan's comment at the beginning:

This song is about goldfishes and so on^^
