The guy in front of the kit is probably because the bass drum is slipping everytime he kicks it. It would fall off the stage if the guy wasn't lying there.
@leckie182 Nope dude, thats me actually my name is Guy, I have been to a billion SOTY shows and they grew to know me over the years that they have seen me front row at their concerts, so they asked me if it would be cool if I did that because they are freakin weird and they thought it would be funny. I have remained friends with them and everytime I go to a show they always bring me on stage or bring me backstage. they are amazing people, its a shame they arent bigger!
@viirevox what are you talking about?! I think YOU need to look up the lyrics, here's some just to knock some sense into you!: Do you really think That it's a choice, a way of life? Played by discrimination You're narrow-minded, quick to judge With Bible belt tunnel vision... ....Rejected, forsaken, for being born... ....I can't believe that this is still a question That needs an answer A bigot's eyes judging lives Based on the sex of who you fuck!.... Now tell me it's not about being condemn
@TheCASTskater lol... okay, you're either being extremely sarcastic or ignorant. go look the lyrics up someplace. i'm really hoping you're just being sarcastic. O_o
@TheCASTskater your first comment wasn't entirely clear, viirevox read it wrong, but you both agree on what the song's about... as do I (it's not hard!)
@stuart5137 They used this as their final song when I saw them about 3 years ago. I hope for your sake they finish on this song again. You know you see a fair few concerts and one or two songs really stick out as highlights. This is one of mine. It will blow your mind.
I'm glad Story of the Year found their own sound. "Page Avenue" was way too studio influenced. It was amazing! But studio influenced. "In the Wake of Determination" and on... are pure, solid, raw Story of the Year.
Man, I can't get enough of watching/listening of this performance of this song. I like Ryan at 2:40- looks like he's got fire ants or something on him.
i think if their lead singer changed his style, it wouldnt match their kind of music .. his voice is perfect for it, and it has become even better now, which you can hear on their new song "To the burial" .. The thing that is holding them back is that they aint mainstream enough, srsly, its only all that pop shit and rap that sells good nowadays, they used to be huge back in 2002 in USA, but times have changed .. Plus they make more and more hardcore music, and people just dont like it =/
They released 'Until The Day I Die' and Anthem..." in like late 2003/early 2004. I'm glad they aren't too mainstream. I wouldn't want them competing with Britney Spears, Pink, Taylor Swift, Daughtry, etc on top 40 stations. Real talent doesn't get fair airplay, unfortunately, but us music lovers know where the good music is. Not that manufactured, shoved-down-your-throat sh|+.
@PhilTheEar it's music it's not about fame man..i like their music..if they get more mainstream they will probably not make the same music ever again..it's not about what most people like..plus hardcore is the best music to express most of their lyrics..it's not about what sells,it's about what they like to write..it's the way music should be..heart and passion not fame and money
Not to attack you or anything, but what i mean with "They arent mainstrem enough" is that they are making fucking awesome and epic music, but its the style the majority of the people like. Thats why they arent huge, becuase the rock / metal genre is something you rarely hear on the radios now =(
Story of the year has some of the best guitar riffs ive ever heard. There song writing is epic. The only thing holding them back from being "huge" is in my opinion their singer. His style is nothing special. Hes got like a screamo hardcore thing goin on which is what alot of bands are doing right now. If he would develop his own style and sound like the rest of the band has done, story of the year would be a truly epic.

i LOVE this band. but dude...lets be honest..their riffs are repetitive and not too original although theyre sweet. lets not get ahead of ourselves. their music is just a mashup of other bands. theyre already bigger than they should be because of their poppy radio sappy hits. yes the singer has that typical sound and his scream has even changed with the times, but man thats pretty much what this band is about. nothing to look too deep into. their lyrics are pretty sweet though.
I love reading everyones comments on this vid, that person on the drums is me, my name is Guy and im good friends with SOTY, they asked me before the show if I could do something random during the set which I did as well during anthem i laid on top of their amps, I am not a doll like one person said and I did this at a few shows in the tri-state area lol this was filmed at FUSE studios in 05 in NYC, but please keep on with the comments I love the creativity....rock on dudes
I love all of story of the year's albums but page avenue was the best. Now they are straight out rock when they used to have a punkish feel. and plus that was the only CD that they played on the radio... Soty rocks!!!!!!!!!!
The reason the guy is laying in front of the drums is because he just passed out. Lol, jk. He's there to represent the "He,' that is in the title and repeatedly mentioned through the song. If you read the lyrics you'll understand.
All three records ARE amazing,, but they're different
Page Avenue is amazing for it's melodic qualities
In The Wake of Determination was sooo badass
But The Black Swan has both of those
Still very melodic, but mixed with badass solo's and breakdowns
I found that In The Wake of Determination seemed like they tried a bit too hard to get out of the genre they started in, so the songs weren't as solid as they could've been
'Page Avenue' came out in the midst of the emo era and took on the emo sound. That's when I was turned on to SOTY. I loved 'Anthem..', but then my other fave SOTY song is off their next album- 'Take Me Back', which didn't have that emo style. Page Avenue had that clean, fresh, innocent, new sound, but the subsequent albums are more rock. I like 'em all!
I love how the 2000's have had a huge increase of bands that sound better LIVE than on CD. People take pride in there showis because you dont make as much money selling cd's anymore. its more about the music than sales now.

lol it's so funny how at the end Dan lays on top of the dude lying in front of the kick drum. cuz of what the song is about. don't get me wrong, i love the song, i love this band, but i just think it's kinda funny.
This is, in my opinion, the best song they've writin so far. It's just so full of this raw energy that a lot of their songs just don't have. This song really just makes me wanna jump in the pit.

This is, in my opinion, the best song they've writin so far. It's just so full of this raw energy that a lot of their songs just don't have. This song really just makes me wanna jump in the pit.
