  • Fuckin great album!!!!

  • Awesome.

  • Easily one of the most inspired bands of the 90s. For as accessable as their music is, its a damn shame they didn't break out!

This is one of my favorite songs from them, off of my favorite Afghan Whigs album, "Gentleman."

Greg Dulli deserves some serious credit for being a musical genius. Enough said.

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • 27/01/2008 Roma, I will go to look the GUTTER TWINS. I love Mark and Greg

  • Can't believe that with this melody and lyrics these guys never became mainstream. Got all their records.

  • Im kinda glad they didn't, it can ruin some bands and soften them up if you know what I mean.

  • Man; this song reminds me of the shitty marriage I was in at the time it came out.

  • the frontman is so damn cool, it very impressed me back then when MTV played underground videos

  • I'm starting to get into this band, but do not know much about them

Can anybody give some advise of where to start? Thank you =)

  • Start with their 1992 album "Congregation", it is amazing. If you like the Afghan Whigs, the frontman Greg Dulli is very talented and has had some more recent projects like "The Twilight Singers" and "the Gutter Twins". I suggest you check them out too.

  • "What Jail is Like" & "Uptown Avondale" are two good EP's as well. I think the band was defunct by about 1996, so the bulk of their output will be from 1992-94.

  • Hey, I just started getting into these guys. My buddy has always been into these guys and he got me the Unbreakable: A Retrospective 19902006 cd...it's got a little bit of all their stuff. Very cool. I'm hooked!

  • As an ethnic Afghan I am very proud of these guys... But Jesus I hated thier band name

What the hell is a "whig" anyways?

  • There was an old political party in the US called the "Whig" Party. Whig stood for With hope in God. I dunno if that's what the Afghan Whigs meant with their title. I also heard a rumor that the Afghan Whigs were named after a biker gang from Florida. I don't know how true that is though.

  • shit man with ur jesus wat u tryin to say

    Afghans rule bithc

  • I never said anything bad about Afghans, not Jesus

Please learn to read, and understan the English language better...Because I am embarressed by your rudeness

  • The Afghan Whigs were an old muslim biker gang in the 60's.

That's what I heard anyway. Could be wrong.

  • Top, top notch stuff.

  • Thx Subpop!

  • Afghan Whigs never got the proper accolades as some of the other Alternative Rock back in the late 80's inot the mid 90's but Greg Dulli and crew still kicked ass regardless!!!

  • I'm not a big Afghan Whigs fan but I have heard a lot of their stuff and I can honestly say that this is definitely my favorite song of theirs. I also like the song retarded.

  • wicked song....dulli rules.....him and lanegan rule with their new band GUTTERTWINS

  • Greg Dulle and Co. Rule. Rock On Brother

  • Ow man

First time i heard saw this on TV, i was drunk, stoned and bouncing through the living room in the middle of the night. And singing along although I never heard it before.

  • these guys are great...greg dulli is the reason i picked up a guitar.........

  • Everybody view all my favorite and video.See how much I know. Imagine. Thank me later. When you see me. Universe technique

  • These guys, Soul Coughing and Morphine were the kings of the 90s.

  • On the male emotions/behavior I'd agree. But it's a picture of what culture and female behaviour does to us. Women are complicated and sometimes it's their own fault for being that way. You can flame me and give me poor ratings now, k thx bai.

  • Back then showing someone smoke in a video wasn't a big deal. Music videos have changed a lot because I remember seeing guns in videos but can't have that now. See back then we knew better. Glad I still have the video tape of Debonair but you know I had to come on here to read people's comments. I'd still rather rock out to this instead of what's out today.

  • 5*****

  • the uncesored video shows a girl having an abortion in a bathroom stall. i saw it on jbtv when the cd first came out. i never stopped listening to them since ,they are so fucking awesome.

  • Tonite I'll go to hell...for what I've done to you.

    Such hauntingly powerful words.

  • all time favorite - know every word to every song...pretty lame commenting y'all...

  • Got suspended foe having the Gentleman tape in my private HS. 14 years ago.

  • I hate the name of this band so much. good music though i guess

  • whats wrong with the name asshat

  • asshat would be a lame band name...dont use it.

    learn to use commas, dumbass.

  • you're hilarious, why don't you use your wit to respond to the question instead of pointing out grammatical mistakes

  • I just think it's a dumb name. it just doesn't fit the bands sound that well i think. does that answer your question asshole?

  • It does answer my question, I'm guessing they thought it fitted pretty well.

  • I hate you. but I realized i would probably like you in real life because its rare that people have a good music taste now a days.

    peace.

  • Oh no doubt I'd probably like you too, people come off different online, anyone whos into the whigs is okay in my books though.

  • haha. weird how this sick world works.

    :)

    peace man.

  • Great music to get drunk to and fuck all night long. Cool post.

  • they don't make songs or videos like this anymore..

  • the band "afghan whigs" put out this song called "debonair" back in 1993, so i think that you're mistaken here, kiddo. please keep your mouth shut when the grown-ups are talking from now on, ok?

  • Wow, Smokin a somke in the video. Didnt they ban that shit on youtube? It might corrupt the kids that are cookin up asprin and cough syrup to make tea.

  • listened to this album everyday during my 1st divorce

  • lol @ this...

  • amen ! this album got me through so much shit it isnt even funny .

  • Bad song.... Hate it from bottom of my heart.

  • love this song and vid...cool lyrics

  • OMG I absolutely loved these guys!!!! I hadn't heard them in YEARS! One of the best underated bands ever.

  • super

  • omg i love this song! one of the most under rated bands by far! they rock!

  • the bass line roars! I can't find tabs for it anyway! help me!

  • I can probably help you with that. Drop me a message on my youtube account. I could work it out...

  • Gorgeous song. They fall into that catagory of "Greatest Bands You've Never Heard Of" I caught them on The Alternative a few years agos and have been a fan ever since.

  • i grew up with dulli im in this video im the guy with the fking mullet

  • Which one? lol

  • Really, I live in Hamilton, where you from?

  • ...раздирает...

  • Still one of my favorite songs and albums.

  • I have been trying to hear this song and see this video since 1994. I had forgotten the name of the band, but then I saw Letterman last night, and there were the Gutter Twins. I knew I recognized the guy with the black hair... it was Greg Dulli... wouldn't you know, I find him on Wikipedia, and the AFghan Whigs on YouTube... Great Song! Thanks for posting!

  • I love it when stuff like that happens. Unforgettable songs that you remember for more than months...years, but never know the artist and look and look and when you find them its like your life is complete

  • Thanks, brings back great memories!

  • Exactly right! Very well put. At 3:30, he looks so dejected, defeated, and spirit crushed as he sings, "Tonight I go to hell". Powerful, moving stuff. One of the most profound, tragic songs ever crafted by the human hand.

  • thats what i been trying to say for years ever since i purchased gentlemen i applaud you for your words so well put take a bow

  • uh, i desperately waited for mtv's 120 minutes to see this video. gone to favorite videos, saynomore.

  • oh man..it brings the memories back.for me-the best band ever,over the years.luv ya!

  • ONE OF THEIR BEST

  • AFGHAN WHIGS STILL RULES!

  • Awesome!!!! I thought I would never see that video again. Thanks again.

  • great tune

  • oh :D

  • i m thinking , for my part, that it s quite more an allegory of the devil taht a pure critic of Society

  • great video, notice the family's and children. The American patriotism, kapitalism and tradition, it all points towards republicant critism

  • one of the best bands right up there with Kurt and the boys

  • thx 4 added !

  • fuckin decadence, what a great song from the band that could do no wrong. i miss these guys

  • great band ... great song

  • Gangs, bikers, anti-colonialism ... that is all very funny but I fear, it is a bit off. While there have been Whigs ( as opposed to The Tories) in England since the mid 1800's. I'm pretty sure that Greg Dulli picked the Afghan part up because the word was constantly in the press. The Soviets were slowly losing to the Afghans (Osama & pals backed by the U.S.) and it was in the morning paper every other day from '78 to '89 or so.

  • wef

  • God I miss them!

  • Still one of my favorite tunes from the 90s. Gentlemen still gets regular plays in my CD player today. Loved the Afghan Whigs.

  • i always loved this song.. more than that other one i can't remember the name of right now "your attention please..."

this one is soo ominous though!

  • "your attention please" is from the song Gentlemen.

  • thanks.. i realized it after i posted! :)

  • nice, i don't think i even knew there was a video for this

  • Mmmmmmm Greg Dulli, *wipes drool off*

  • can someone tell me why they called themself Afghan Whigs?!... PleaseXD

  • After a biker gang from the '60s. All black (possibly Muslim) membership I think. The (gang) name originally appears to have been reference to opposition to British colonialism in central and southern Asia during the 19th century.

Whigs were originally Scottish Presbytarian sepratists in the 17th century. In opposition to the British crown they supported the Americans in the War of Independence Google Whigs (or, god forbid, open a book) it to find out more.

  • I've always been a death/black metal guy, but this song has been a favorite of mine for years, very dark.

  • This ex -girlfriend of mine had the biggest crush on greg dulli- i personally thought the guy looked like an asshole- Im so glad he turned out to be so fat- Im the same age as greg an as of yet- not fat all-

  • We dont care about your ex-girlfriend your fat and slow retarded brain.. Realy

  • i met dulli at topcats in cincinnati and sat next to him at the bar, hes an amazing artist and person, but a real asshole when he's drunk.wouldnt stop me from seeing the whigs or(havana sugar kings aka)again though...soul shaking shows everytime

  • Great stuff. One of the most underrated bands of the 90s!

  • I miss those days...

  • I'd fuck Greg Dulli. Even in his current mega-fat incarnation.

  • yes, egg. i ditto this.

  • Hell yes, I know. Just because he used to be this hot and is such an amazing person.

  • one of the best greng bands in the best years of the 90

  • hahahaha

  • What is this to do with Afghan?

  • An awesome vid for an awesome song.

  • being that i am a full-fledge metal head; i still love music of diffrent gnres that move me and i can recall grwin' up checkin' out afghan whigs on mtv back in the day... gregg dulli did a very good job with the group back then and i remember this video so much!!!

  • Remember the fanzine "Fat Greg Dulli"? This vid reminded me of it and gave me a chuckle. Its a good song regardless.

  • One of my favourite Afghan songs.

  • Nope, the dipshit from 3rd Base was trying to look like Greg Dulli

  • Sorry, Pete Nice was first by about 3 years. Quit suckin' Dulli's balls.

  • I love it. Thank you!

  • Wicked band.

  • Shang is the most terrifying screen villian since Falconetti!
