  • I'll give you $50 scrap value...

  • Oh Corvette is a failed attempt at a sportscar, the zr1 is a plastic pig with a tractor

engine, it will last less than a week and then disintergrate, its american engineering

what do you expect... take a bus its less embarrasing...usa=fail

  • No volvo is a great car, all driven by ageing old farts who want to transport their

grandfather clock to the menders, volvos are dull cars for sandel wearing beardy

men...japanese cars are for tight old gits who care more for budget than anything else, american cars are just outdated manure thats why toyota is king over there.

German cars are ok if a bit common, the best of all worlds see Italy,.

Yank take that civic and shove it....

  • In England there are two names that the Brits are afraid to speak aloud, Lord Voldemort and Sir Joseph Lucas. Lucas is the Prince of Darkness. Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices. Lucas is the reason the British drink warm beer, all their refrigerators are made by Lucas. Lucas is the patent holder for the short circuit. The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."

I should know, I own a 1980 Jaguar XJ6 here in Los Angeles.

  • @fourptsixliter Actually the handling / cornering was excellent but very harsh.

  • Mike has admitted in another programme (uks 100 favourite cars) that he hates corvettes, and despite pretending to like them for this show, you can tell he is hating every moment as he drives that dog of a car, it was one of the roughest ones featured on wheeler dealers.

  • @tiffneedle of course it was rough. He picked an 84. most of the roads in America are smooth so I'm sure he got the shit beat out of him driving it where he was. another thing is the rear end only steps out if you don't know how to drive a vette. But honestly it's really not much different than driving a 911. go into a turn with your foot off the gas and both cars rear ends will slip.

  • @GTVAlfaMan Yeah and Japanese cars are 100% more reliable than American cars... So why don't we all just go Japanese then??

Question: Why most of the British car industry is owned by foreign companies and why American car companies keep going bust and require government help?

Answer: Because of the Japanese cars.

  • Comment removed

  • @GTVAlfaMan you attack my homeland and made sweeping comments, makes you feel like an Alpha Man perhaps?

I know nothing about "real" cars, then I must know alot about "fake" cars then...my fake car has AC, no heat ( its hot enough here!) and good electrics, but very bad trimming. But my fake car still takes petrol, brings me to places and is not made of paper! I wonder what you mean by real and fake cars then.

If only more of your countrymen were as patriotic as you nobody would go bust

  • Comment removed

  • @GTVAlfaMan You Chinese? Well I am a Chinese living in Malaysia, my grandparents had it from the Japs, now I am having it from the bumiputra policy here... I know what is suffering, no need for you to teach me. I don't blame the Japanese population for what their grandparents did, I just blame their leaders, and that doesn't make their cars suck.

I currently drive a Volvo, which at the time was under Ford. The main mechanics work, its just small things like lights, central locking, etc goes bust

  • @panzerschreck89 The old Volvo's were great cars, very roomy, sturdy and strong. However, as they age they get to be very expensive to fix all the little things that need repair. I see lots of old Volvo's here in California heading to the scrap yard with perfect bodies because the owners got tired of fixing them. You can pick up a Volvo or Jaguar XJ6 here in Los Angeles for almost free because everyone is dumping them. If anyone in Europe needs a project car, Los Angeles is the place to look.

  • @GTVAlfaMan Ford was a Nazi anti-semite, and the only reason they managed to survive the 2008-2010 crisis was a string of loans they obtained in 2007, before the crisis. Besides, Chrysler, GM AND Ford requested financial aid from the Government, just because they did not take it doesn't mean they weren't in trouble. And American Auto Industry isn't made out of Ford. 2 of the big 3 went bust, 1 barely survived, and you still claim that the American Auto Industry is healthy? thats funny

  • It doesn't matter about some old 80s sports car.

Now a days, American could wipe all of the UK in a day, and probably half of europe in a week if they wanted. Nuff said

  • Great Job!

  • my god i live in malaysia and at this price even double that price i ll buy it on the spot.

  • 800 GBP not worth all the work and time

  • Chrome pieces are retarded. Why would they spend money on something like that? The would have had £800 if they didnt put that crap on

  • @dudamara Agreed. IMO they should have left that shit out. I'm not crazy about choosing black for the door either & those stupid looking mirrors need to go. If I did this Job I would have changed those back to original and detailed the engine bay by simply cleaning it with a degreasing detergent, hot water, a little elbow grease, a hot water pressure hose & maybe some silicone spray. otherwise it was an okay job. Now somebody find me a BMW at that price with 200Hp & handles as good or STFU!

  • They should've taken the time to polish the taillights.

A soft cloth, and plain old cheap white toothpaste will polish old colored plastic lenses to a like-new shine.

  • that bloke outa knight rider LOL!

  • All the buyer needs is a cowboy hat and a southern American accent and the image is perfect. He has the arrogance and attitude already.

  • I love this show but every now and someone gets involved who is incredibly annoying, in this episode it is the buyer of the Corvette, Darren. He really does make me cringe and comes across as very arrogant and cocky.

Not to mention his obsession with the word "obviously". Nine times!!

  • did i miss the part where the fix that actual paint job?

  • the knight rider jokes are annoying.

For one, the car on Knight Rider was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, not a C4 Corvette. Same basic company, but the 2 cars are completely unrelated.

Second, The Corvette is a sports car, NOT a muscle car. The Corvette has NEVER been a muscle car. Fucking stupid Europeans.

  • @Z34teen Well it's a better muscle car than a sports car. Except if the american definition of sports car doesn't mention going around corners.

  • @KapsGTA Very funny. Is that why the Corvette has dominated track racing for years? Not to mention the Corvette racing team abd the Corvette ZR1 which has demolished all it's competitors on the Nurburgring. American cars can take a turn. Europeans are just too stuck up to either notice this or accept it.

  • @Z34teen C6 is excellent, no doubt about that. But even though the C4 was a huge step forward from the C3 in terms of handling, it still has this dodgy american feeling. Don't give me wrong i absolutely love american cars with their big fat full of torque engines and their feeling, but you have to admit they're frankly let down by their handling. (And i'm only talking about handling here.)

  • @KapsGTA even before the C5, the Corvette has been entered in races around the world by private owners. It's taken many class championships around the world. I wouldn't ever describe a Corvette as a poor handling car. It's common-sense that the older models don't handle as well as the new ones, but for their time, they were very competitive.

  • @KapsGTA it actually out handled many other much more expensive sportscars from europe (farrari and porsche s included) in its day...it was able to pull 1G in the turns. and handlerd like its on rails...I know I have one...the z51 package gave it a harsh ride in 1984 though...they later softened the ride to make it a bit less of a sportscar and more a grand tourer for the wealthy wives and old folk who bought them for a status symbol. It still did over 140mph too with only 205hp

  • everbody knows american cars are built like crap even the americans do now.

  • Sorry, but this wouldn't work in the real world. Labor costs are much more than the profit you can ever make.

  • dodgy electrics? Should bought an 80's Jaguar, love to see him crying over that crap. It's like a Adrien Brody making fun of someone for having a big ugly nose.

  • Brits are just jealous....their Government wont allow a large engine....so they can only bash American cars due the small penis and bad teeth that they have....LOL

  • @beetlekill123 as far as im aware there are no engine size restrictions in the UK. I once saw a car with a rolls royce merlin in it and that was road legal. no idea what your on about.

  • @1HOLYDIVER1 ok...my bad...just figured all the little motors that run around on the other side of the pond and your current political state, that you are only allowed so many liters.....

  • $5700 US for a Chevy??!?!?!??!??!?!? I see them all the time overpriced at under 1k but then I'm in the states, still good job (considering miricles can't be worked w/ anything Ford or GM, imo)

I'd like to see these dudes get a real car, perhaps a Charger or Fury, now that be worth a spruce up!

  • @Begbucks american stuff costs more and is worth more because its foriegn and not as common just as an old 911 is worth more here than in europe.... I cant believe your comparing a charger to a vette?? I have that same vette and am helping a friend restore a 74 charger now....no comparison you obviously never drove both

  • @fathergratwick I'm not making any comparasions just suggesting what would cater to my mopar taste (in case my comment will strike a vibe w/ some producer - unlikely) none the less; you're rite I never drove a vette (no offence, i value my life too much lol) I can understand pricing will be different (customs etc.) overseas however even 3 fold this car toped that figure - so I'm still shocked!

  • @Begbucks the frame on a c4 is made of galvanized steel....body is GPC (like fiberglass and very thick most other newer cars like saturns for example have more plastic in them....btw the 74 dodge we are redoing is a unibody car so its not exactly built like a tank....but I can respect your opinions I have and have had some mopar cars.... I just feel if you ever did drive a c4 or c5 vette you would be thrilled at how fun they are to drive (and safer due to better handling at high speeds.)

  • those prices are NOT real the dash cluster alone is 350.00 without the core. Exaust system is about 1000.00 us, I love the show but please get the prices right for us DYI s...

  • Wow you all mad

  • omg Mike meets his match at the end!

  • the guy who bought it is a dick

  • that car would sell for 10 grand in the U.S..........

  • "American cars have dodgey electrics?" Since when Lucas boys? American cars don't have bad electrics and never did. I own two Jaguars, which I love, but both have had electric issues my Jeeps, Chrylers, SAABs never had. Plus he's a weak suck salesman. I'd fire a salesman with such consistently low grosses. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the show.

  • There is NO proof that freon R12 or R134A causes any enviromental harm. Freon is a naturally occuring gas.

  • Knightrider didn't drive a 'vette you twat Mike.

  • Exactly MarkgcrI never really did like mike he reminds me of jeremy clarkson always picking on american cars

  • mike's a cunt

  • obviously

  • that cunt could not stop saying obviously DAMMIT

  • £800 for what a weeks work maybe?? dont seem bad to me ill take £800 a week or even a fortnight also most of the time was waiting for shipping for bits and parts lol

  • The paint could be better with a "detailing"

  • a lot of money invested AND HAND WORK and just 700pounds?OMG this dude is a saint?or is a trick to watch?

  • chrome was shit....sparks444 has the unedited version

  • No respect for Eds hard work.

  • true

  • The tires didn't match...Critical on performance cars especially this series of Vettes, and Miata's simply won't tolerate it.

What profit? Ed's time is free? Is this the way of English accounting?

Still love the show, but knock off the slights of Americana.

    3Deuce27 ...... "Little Beirut"

  • Excuse me..."Dodgy American Electronics" Some perspective please!

The English 'Electrics' manufactures worshiped the Gods of Darkness for decades. The cure only came when Ford, BMW, and VW bought their auto industry out. Their hydraulics were scary too. I still deal with both issues and cooling on my very low mileage 68' Midget.

Oh! Well! It's fair game to knock Americans.

    3Deuce27 ...... "Little Beirut"

  • He's got the hair ......

    He's got the glasse's .......

HE'S GAGGIN FOR A BIT OF AMERICANA .. ahahahahaha Classic

    (watch till the end)

  • I love this show, but he kept saying that he fixed the "dodgy American electronics," when in fact he just replaced it with the same "dodgy American electronics." I don't think American electronics are inferior. Electric and digital systems go out on all cars eventually. This car was 20 yrs old! I have a 92 BMW 325i that has a number of electrical issues that I'm in the process of correcting. Would we say German electronics are dodgy? Probably not.

  • that money better all go to ED lol

  • This show is great...but did they just sell that car with 3 different tires?

  • Poor Ed....lol

  • lol at edd china he does all the hard work, edd put the kettle on! yes sir! lick my boots!

  • Ed is doing such a huge job, and Mike is like doing nothing.. And "dodgy american electronics?? It cant be worse than crappy english electronics..

  • the '84 vette is a great car and is a blast to drive so fuck everybody who knocks it!

  • the buyer is a classic, one of the better actors, is it Jay Kays brother?? As for the final car, not one of their best still looks ropey, and what were they thinking, that exhaust is one ugly mother. how long before ed's good ol satin black peels/scratches off?

  • Same here mate,£800 profit after all that fuken labour that went in to the yank tank, fuk that for a game of marbles!!!

  • I can say the guy buying this car was a classic example of a douchebag.

  • FUCK THIS GUY

  • dude looks like a sweaty hobbit

  • are you kidding, american electronics are reliable, your piece of shit euro electronics are shit, you short little fat ugly wanker

  • he is even larger in the new series. almost reminds me of Harry seacomb

  • I got a negative reaction? do I need to bring up lucas? so while you're little brittish engines are pissing oil all over the roundabout and your electrics are kickin the bucket, just think about the "dodgy american car you could be driving... you know the reliable, powerful, "don't fuck with me" kind. So why don't you jam your fat sweaty hobbit ass into a tiny brttish car and piss oil all the way down to the store where you can buy tampons for you and your POS british car.

  • lol. defensive.

  • Bring up lucas?how do you know about lucas?they went bust years and years ago!

  • lol, I work on cars with a friend of mine who's a retired airforce major/carnut/corvette enthusiast. I told him about this video and we were both laughing at the idea that a brit would call "american electrics" "dodgy"... lol he was like haha let me tell you about lucas, the dark lord.. or something like that some nickname of darkness.

  • "Thermostat"? Edd added an aftermarket thermoswitch.

  • Its really funny hearing British car guys talk about dodgy American electrics. **cough**LUCAS**cough**

  • 46 for a thermostat?

  • Nice to see some Brits enjoying Corvettes. Damn you, Jeremy Clarkson.

  • I have to point out, grayparatrooper, that the cars of the 80's were actually less restricted than current cars. We have far more horsepower today because of technology. Technology is always advancing. That's why we have cars that are way faster than the 1960's, while under greater emissions regulations than the 1980's. Last year, I could buy a 205 mph Corvette that does 11 sec 1/4 miles, for example, that blows away any 1960's Corvette, and puts out less emissions than this 80's Corvette.

  • They only got 205hp because during the 80's cars were horribly restricted so thats all the hp they coud legally do. Look at all cars from the 80s none have big hp.

  • Why does he keep saying, "American cars have really dodgy electrics". No they don't !!

Just remember Lucas "Prince of Darkness" and the TR7's that caught fire. Nuff said you tosser.

  • sure, jaguars, bentleys.. they are so weak .. no effort at all.. stupid opinion

  • and Aston Martins

  • Who is the fat guy? Ed does all the work and the fat guy takes half the money?

  • how can 5.7 litres only make fucking 206hp, that appalling

  • only the yanks could manage to get 206hp out of 5700cc!! pathetic.

  • i find it hilarious how the english complain about american electrical, when there's never been an english car with wiring that worked properly. Also, we call it a small block v8 for a reason, they think a 350 is huge... haha silly lil' english.

  • Well all ye can mangae is a lil over 200 ponies out of all them litres. A standard 2 litre sports saloon over there produces that much lol

  • 500000 kms later, the 350 is still making 250 hp, and yer lil 2l is a paper weight. lol

  • Paper weight? lol Well I own a Sierra Cosworth, 4 doors, big boot, leather interior,4wd, and an extremely well sorted chassis and 270hp with a stage one chip and no engine mods mods... Oh yea and I can get close to 30 to the gallon, all in an 18 year old european car.

  • but a sierra cosworth looks like shit compared to a vette

  • @curancho You what!!! lmfao!!! Sierra cossie one of the coolest working mans car ever!! You have poor taste my friend.

  • and 250hp aftere all that long?? So it found 44 hp in all them years, because they came with 206 hp standard.

  • I called the UK to get some parts for an old Triumph that I bought for $50, but I guess they suck at making cars in Britain so they gave up and make crappy imitation-American motorcycles now. lulz

  • i love how the big thing is the v8 there every where over here

  • petrol guzzling yanks

  • buyer looks like brad pitt lol

  • have these britts ever heard of lucas electronical systems?

  • Comment removed

  • Any British car enthusiast knows that if you're buying an old car from the 70s or 80s, then British, American and, to a lesser extent, French cars will give you notorious problems with electrics. Since the car here was American, there's no need to acknowledge old BL products. So the Americans on here need to chill out and stop being so pathetically insecure. Nothing in this world is worse than the bruised ego of an American male.

  • There really is no reason to defend the American auto industry. Especially nowadays.

  • i wish cars still had pop up headlights they were all pretty much awesome

  • giles, the 88' XJ40 is the worst possible Jaguar for electric gremlins, so not suprised it faired worse than the C4

  • what an asshole, doesnt he know that microsoft and mac are american ? the two biggest electronic related companies on earth...

  • Yeah, because Microsoft and Mac both do car electrics, retard.

  • but thats the thing, he never said "dodgey american CAR electronics", just electronics, which means he could have just thought american electronics in general were shit, thats why i said, retard.

  • Poor attempt to backpedal, it's in the context of cars. This might be new to you, seeing how you're American determined to defend your country's poor quality of automobiles but you don't have to define the adjectives target if it's in context. But apparently you need everything spelled out for you.

  • I'm sick of reading shit like that. It's okay to correct someone on something they've gotten wrong, but talking down to them as if they are a lower being is just out of line. Every video on YouTube that dares to mention a Corvette is flooded with European dudes talking about Americans like they used to talk about blacks in the 1850s and it's disgusting.

I know Americans have a bad reputation with the rest of the world, but you're not exactly helping our image of you guys with shit like that.

  • From discussing about automobiles and "shoddy american electronics" to slavery in America, how exactly is this related in any way?

  • I wasn't referring to any comments pointed at the electronics, that's fine.

What I was referring to was the attitude of smug superiority constantly displayed by Europeans toward Americans on these kinds of videos. It was originally a response to someone's comment, in which he characterized another guy as if he were a slow or mentally handicapped child, to whom things must be explained slowly. No one on either side of the pond has the right to treat the others like that.

    That's all I meant.

  • So you're comparing our attitude towards Americans the way Americans acted towards slaves in 1800's? Pretty far fetched when most of the criticism is because people losing context completly and not generally knowing how electronics for example are related, which in this case would call for an insult seeing how cocky the original comment was regarding American electronics.

I see your point tho, but in this case it doesn't really apply.

  • Of course, it was a large exaggeration. But you have to realize that my observation wasn't merely restricted to this video, but rather to what I've seen on YouTube at large. Like I said, whenever a Corvette or a Viper goes on the screen, you can bet that the fertilizer is going to be clogging the ventilation systems before long.

Granted, American cars have lacked a great deal of sophistication and track performance for a long time. But now, we're starting to get surprises at the Nurburgring.

  • Then again it's only been one Dodge Viper and Chervolet Corvette that has lapped in top 20 of Nürburings lap times, and now since Radical is concidered as a production car Viper no longer holds the record for the fastest lap time. It's getting better but then again the cultural diffrence between American and European motorsports is alot diffrent so we can't expect them to mix up that easily. But i still don't think that my hostility towards previous poster was totally uncalled for.

  • As I've said before, the reprimand was coming to the guy, and I would never support a policy of shutting up in the face of stupidity. But I would recommend to the world that you be careful to insult someone based on their stupid idea or whatever else is wrong with them, without generalizing that flaw to an entire group (Americans, Germans, etc.) Comments about all Americans being egotistical hotheads, or any other mass generalization should be avoided. Only the loud Americans are like that. :-)

  • Then again, it's the same way how most people see Americans, loud. But you make a good example how polite and factual Americans can be, then again "exception proves the rule".

  • You yanks don't like us Brits giving you any criticism do you! Chill.....

  • That guy buying is soooo weird, gives us brits a bad name

  • taxi for mike if he crashes it when he's driving it around after it's done

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • well there is a good reason for anti american egineering there isint however a reason for anti jaguar engineering

  • i think 80 % of this show is fixed, oh here comes the moment of truth. hey it works! how many times didnt it work?

  • The traditional scripted, Anti-American engineering is a little aggravating as well. They don't see us in our car shows talking shit when we fix up a Jaguar.

  • ur right, he went on way too much about that but let me assure you that we moan most about our own British cars...British motoring programmes loath cars like the TR7 and anything by Leyland or Rover...Lots of Brits love US cars and the amazing engines that go on forever!

  • haha I found this out shortly after when I saw the CJ-7 British review. They loved it compared to the Rover. That attitude was mostly focused towards the writers looking to spice a show up. Such as the Top Gear writers. I do apologize, that comment wasn't really focused towards British in general.

  • no need to apologise your point was right, you can see how much he loves the car tho despite his few criticisms... that engine is a true masterpiece...

  • the bloke out of kightrider hmmm i wonder who he was???

  • Finally..a girl that likes tall guys :d

  • This guy thinks hes american, what a loser lol oh the brits...

  • taxes if you restoring cars profesionaly and it is your job, and many others costs) So once again it's just tv show and has very little with reality but it is nice to watch how fast end easy they repair those cars.

  • Well Mike gets some negative commnets but I will give everything for a guy who look after parts and just bring them to my garage. It make job three times faster and five time less flustrating. BTW It's just a tv show they skip many things and they sell those cars way under their real value. (Please add price of a labour, tools- they are very expensive, gas and time for searching all those parts, garage renting money, light and heat in garage,

  • Bloke buying it was a bit weird! - bet he was an actor rather than a real punter...

  • apparently the people buying them are family & relatives of people working on the set

  • Soooo, he basically sold it to the very first guy who looked at it?

  • if you ask me Edd is an awesome mechanic who has a real attention to detail and mike is a douche who doesn't do anything and uses Edd and trash talks Americans

  • I can't stand Mike either...he's a moron!

  • it would be hard to find a v8 in britain

  • :D didn't Mike say "Night Rider"?

  • Right after popping up the lights :D

  • yep £800 profit. Now take off labour costs, workshop running costs etc. Oh look it is a massive loss! Mike is one of the worst dealers I have ever seen. Good job he is also a tv presenter otherwise he would starve.

  • "dodgy american electronics" that sounds so funny when said by a brit

  • I agree...£800 profit?!! What about the labour cost Mike....forgot that?!

  • 780 pounds? That covers the labor about - doesn't seem like they did too well to me.

  • damn corvettes are expensive over there

  • well they are that expensive in the whole of europe, not just in britain. here in germany the cheapest runners start just under 6.000 euros, thats about 10.000$

  • Rofl Mike finally found hes nemesis? they are so alike

  • Edd is a fine tech man, but GM parts are easier to get than say, Maserati or Lambo.

  • That doesn't really say much now does it?

  • the buyer is genuis :-D LMFAO

  • Mike appears to be getting a lot of negative comments - I think he is whats known in the trade as a bit of a lad - he monkeys around and seems to leave Edd to do all of the donkey work but, this is simply a ploy to make Edd look even more of a genius - Edd without Mike would be like a Bugatti Veyron without its inter coolers - they are such an awesome team + are really nice lads - can't wait for new series of Wheeler Dealers!

  • i agree wit every1 they dont fix up the car for the money, but edd did put in a lot of hard work and to sell it for £800 profit is ridiculous, once they even made a frikin loss Mike suckss

  • Everyone stop arguing - heres my advice; just sit back, relax and enjoy the genius that is Mr Edd China doing what he does best - fixing cars

  • Fucking hilarious. 800 Pounds profit for a months worth of work. Maybe next time He will actually make a worthwhile profit.

  • yeah, who needs 800 pounds, if it isn't at least 5000 profit it's not worth it, right?

  • here is a bit of info for You. It took about 300 man hours to do what the mechanic did. 800 is about 1/5th of what He should have got for that job. if He and the other guy split it that is 400 each. One of them did all the work, And one of them drove the car around. Who deserves to feed his family. I know they are both being paid big bucks to do this, But for the Average Joe it would be a loss of money.

  • that's why he probably doesn't do this for money
