Android 2.2 on the T-Mobile G1

How do you get to the recovery screen? According to everything I've read online, you push HOME and POWER at the same time but when I do that, I get the exclamation point and phone symbol and then nothing else happens. Am I supposed to do something when that comes up?

Is there an easier way to upgrade? I don't think the G1 can handle Froyo fully and I can safely bet not evything is working to it's best. I think G1 should be okay with Eclair best, Froyo is too much for the G1, to think this was the first smartphone to have Android. Wow 2007 seems like a long time ago, time flies so fast. Too bad the android hasn't changed that much I mean it's nice and all but the apps looks dead, it needs a little animation, live apps like I always said and true multi taskin

Can you bypass the 'first startup'. I wiped mine and i forgot i didn't have a data package and dont have a way to log into my gmail and cant get past the android. Anyone know??

im surprise it runs on this G1 (192 MB RAM / 528 MHz Qualcomm cpu)...

2.2 runs amazing on my htc incredible (512MB ram / 1GHz Qualcomm)

@chapinsito12 root your phone.. this is the process where you have to get to 1.5 and then install and app and flash a recovery image... if u dont know what im saying, go to youtube search engine and type in how to root G1

Hey Im just wondering Im getting the G1 soon and I coming from Iphone, And I want to root it and have custom roms but should I get 2.1 2.2 or just 1.6. I just want it to have a nice visual look, stability and I want to be able to have the latest 3rd party tweaks and hacks. But is 2.2 on the g1 stable and fast?

@Superbling26 Hope you did not get the G1 yet, especially when you came from iPhone. You will hate it, due to slow hardware speed. I would suggest you to keep your iPhone (yes even if its 2G) or get the latest Android Phone.

@RealGame22 Compcache is basically compressing your cache... it lets more "stuff" be crammed into the same amount of space making it look like you have more cache... but it takes more time to put data into cache, and take it back out again (you have to compress and decompress it). Sometimes it can help speed things up... sometimes it does the opposite.
