The great depression lasted 10 years do to government intervention. And what FDR did, was only an expansion to what Hoover did. It's somewhat like bush. People see it as Hoover(Bush) as this free marketeer (Even though they were clearly not) and FDR/Obama as the people who bring "change", which they didn't/haven't.
