@eliudaranda well according to fitch he's 1-1 against shields in grappling competition, so his grappling isn't on "another level" like Joe rogan says. He was almost out in the fight against Hendo, and his takedowns aren't quick or explosive, GSP will sprawl him all fight, and frustrate him with his superior standup. Maybe the fight will end by dr stoppage like Koscheck should have.

True Strikeforce doesn't have any deep weight classes, but they have a few top fighters in most divisions. Gilbert beat Aoki when he was ranked # 1. At middleweight Shields beat Robbie Lawler who was ranked 4th at the time, then Mayhem Miller top twenty & Dan Henderson #2 ranked MW and #4 LHW.

Heavyweight is their strongest division, but Gilbert will get some good fights before moving on to the UFC.

His contract had one fight & over a year left on it, so he got more fights 4 a little time.

Melendez is gonna have a hard time if he joins the UFC. They'll hand him a tune up fight with a couple gatekeepers and i don't think he'll look too impressive.

He's a big fish in a small pond. It wouldn't benefit him to even join the UFC, he'd have to start all over again, and get ufc fans to notice him, he could even fail at this. Imagine if he joins the UFC, does poorly and fails to gain more fans than michael bisping, getting cut and going back to SF would be humiliating.

Melendez is good, but he really hasn't been tested outside of Aoki, and even then Aoki got destroyed with a flying knee in his "exhibition" match. Melendez is way bigger than those Japanese fighters and he still did not finish Aoki. And what does Strikeforce have to offer him? Seriously dude needs to get to the UFC if he wants the kind of respect and recognition he's looking for.

Strikeforce is a good organization, but they don't have a good enough Lightweight division for Gilbert to really showcase his skills or make a case for himself as the best in the world.
