is there any reason why these things move so slowly? doesnt seem to be very practical. on another video, those same robots are shown pulling a child across the floor, which is apparently meant to show how they can be used in search and rescue. of course, it probably takes them half an hour, maybe a full hour to actually go about pulling the child.
@DarkProject on their website, they were talking about making 60 different robots for this' swarm, they also released several videos of their robots doing more practical things. their project was terminated btw, so this wont actually happen. yes this looks like a proof-of-concept, but they apparently wanted it to go beyond that, and actually be something useful.
@lXBlackWolfXl "yes this looks like a proof-of-concept, but they apparently wanted it to go beyond that, and actually be something useful."
That's the entire point of a 'proof-of-concept'. You show that something is conceptually possible, and then refine it so that it is practically possible.
OMG too many robot jokes I can't even start... I love how they had to call it the swarmanoid, as if society would take a liking to a group of robots with such a name.
How automated is this? I'll be reading the article in a moment, but these would be a lot more impressive if they were self-controlled, and not just fancy RC cars.
One day all humans will be gone and earth will be a very strange planet where robots rearange books all day in a slowpaced but well lightened manner. Aliens will be surprised and study it for centuries but never found out why and whatfor.
Pretty slow and primitive. You would think once the robots have vision on the road to the books they could make it there without the help of the other robots. Why do the other robots have to line up
@HeatherMeadow Unfortunaly, the book they got is from Akira Toriyama, so they can now learn from Dragon Ball. We are safe......for now. If someone teaches this lil robots to watch TV, they'll become stupid and lazy robots LOL
@richhaddon Only because this is still in its infancy, and that the tasks we do all day, and consider so easy, are actually quite complicated and require a lot, but we don't notice because it's not consciously done. Given time, and more hand entities actually doing something and not just being redundant fail-safes, the speed of the system will increase.
why be afrade of this? you would be shuting out posibilitys of grate things.. robots that kill humans? well its maker must be angry at you just like a gun it kills people becouse its operator want that persan dead.. robots only do what they are told to do and only in steps if it skips one they do not know how to counter for the mistake and fallow another step inplaced. but they can not plan for the unexpected.. why not make these have more than one job?
@omri9325 well rite now they still have truble doing simple stuff and need somone to tell them exsactly what to do and when. but by learn is not what you think they are programed to act a sertan way until they get a signal or a sencor that tells them to act another way until they can get to a check point where they are told to do or act another way. eather way it cant make a disision to go bat shit crazy on us it is told to do something and it will obay where it has no revenge or any ideas
@omri9325 and they also dont have brains to think of greed or any other emotion or thought there "brain" is a computer that tells them "when you reach this obstical turn left" or "if you reach this door and it is closed open it what at that point it dose then it continues on with its original order. this is what people mean by learn from the environment.. but if its not told how to open the door yet it faces the problem it will stop unable to make a disishion on its own
@omri9325 "they can also learn to do what is best for them."
That's a tricky topic, because currently they can't, not really. But even in the future, it's not necessarily true. If you have a robot which is designed to be a butler, then it makes sense to give it the ability to "learn" to become better at what it is designed to do, be a butler. This doesn't mean it'll learn how to fire a gun or could crush your spine.
@BullShitThat robotics is not that simple. you can not make a robot brain.. its like asking your computer to turn on a light when it wants to. it will only do it if you say it can do it and its timeing is eather a random timeing or when you say it can happen for as long as you say.. it dose not have a free mind it runs chaines of programs somone made for it to do when he says to or when a program he made told them to eather way he starts the proses and ends it as well
@MrStemkilla you miss the point, what if I made chains of programs that can mimic free will? In the future we will have the tech and the know how to make AI s that can do this very thing. It's maker does not need to be angry or have any hate issues against humanity. All they need is to give the robot the capacity to do so when it feels like it, and it will eventually happen.
You speak as if there is no such thing as an infinite program, the program doesn't need an end, its called a loop.
@BullShitThat then its maker would have to program it to have the abbility to kill and that ability needs to be trigerd by something becouse the action of harming anything would be at the end of a psasific program but in that program it must start with a spasific human action or order.. robots do not skip steps if they do they can not function. and its keys to start programs are spasific and conditions need to meat b4 it acts
@BullShitThat why would we give them free will they are machines tools that have absolutly no feelings take only whare and tare but do not get tired and will work in any conditions where humans can not. i know what your thinking but we freed slaves becouse they had feelings and they were human not animal and living. robots are not any of thos things
@MrStemkilla if every human thought the way you did about machines we would be fine, unfortunately thats not the case. "why would we give them free will"? why do humans do half the stupid things that we do?... If we have the option and the power to do so, it will eventually happen. That is human nature... its never the machines that worry me, but the mentally of the people who have them in their hands.
@BullShitThat be more worried about others giving them vireses that are programed from the start to do no good.. its going to be a long time b4 we give a public robot any type or wepon but wen we do somon will make that robot bad not with free will but with a vary vary bad program in the form of a virious. but then agen we will never give them a better wepon than what we can get.. but it will start as sabotog of robot arms in factorys for compitition advantige of another company
@MrStemkilla but robots are also more suseptible to surtan things we can easily make.. lets say whe have these advanced robots but they will still be no mach to a magnetron out of an every day microwave. thos will easily distoy its electronics and distrupt its comunication and any kind of function. but besideds all the things magnatrons can do to us it will be nowhere near what it will do to robots.. you can also easily sheald yourself from its rays this is why they r evrywhere
If you shoot a scout drone the area will be swarmed shortly probably. Not recommended, unless you have a big bomb and want to take a large amount with you to hell.

The people saying and thinking along the lines of: "Get the book yourself".. The book was just an example! The video was trying to showcase the robots' communication and sychronisation, not how they've made a breakthrough in getting books from shelves.
And they left no fingerprints behind.

@zassounotsukushi "Look, I have RC cars, and although I don't have all the PLCs and whatever, I can string a small book to it and have it out of the room in 2 seconds flat."
That RC also isn't trying to search its surroundings for a target, or trying to drive itself, and while there are automated systems that could drive the RC quickly, the research isn't about speed so other aspects are ignored until they are needed.

The people saying and thinking along the lines of: "Get the book yourself".. The book was just an example! The video was trying to showcase the robots' communication and sychronisation, not how they've made a breakthrough in getting books from shelves.
