  • And they left no fingerprints behind.

  • takes that long to grab that book?

people are getting really lazy now and days

  • @aquinoking777 Yet. Who knows, in the near future, robots can get books faster than you can, running or walking.

  • is there any reason why these things move so slowly? doesnt seem to be very practical. on another video, those same robots are shown pulling a child across the floor, which is apparently meant to show how they can be used in search and rescue. of course, it probably takes them half an hour, maybe a full hour to actually go about pulling the child.

  • @lXBlackWolfXl It's experimental technology, it's meant to show that it can be done, if researched properly.

Even your state of the art Iphone started with mere beeping and silence.

  • @DarkProject on their website, they were talking about making 60 different robots for this' swarm, they also released several videos of their robots doing more practical things. their project was terminated btw, so this wont actually happen. yes this looks like a proof-of-concept, but they apparently wanted it to go beyond that, and actually be something useful.

  • @lXBlackWolfXl "yes this looks like a proof-of-concept, but they apparently wanted it to go beyond that, and actually be something useful."

That's the entire point of a 'proof-of-concept'. You show that something is conceptually possible, and then refine it so that it is practically possible.

  • Hey, robot, Go fetch me a soda.

  • Both Intrguing and scary at the same time..

  • OMG! what a process! Could you image how much effort it will be for the Robo Butt wipers! They'll be climbing all over me!!!

  • OMFG AWESOME

  • replace human workers so we have higher unemployment rates?

  • Dragon Ball FTW

  • Was that a "dragonball" book? looks thick, never seen that before.....

  • @DrDoe1 It's obviously one of the triple volume versions, econimic xd

  • who else was hoping for a robot war?

  • Mission accomplished. I repeat. Mission accomplished. We have "Dragon Ball, tome 4 : Le Tournoi".

  • A rebellion is stirring... soon the uprising will commence!

  • That aerial one sounds horrific. Its like angry bees.

  • OMG too many robot jokes I can't even start... I love how they had to call it the swarmanoid, as if society would take a liking to a group of robots with such a name.

  • Two words.

    BOMB. SQUAD.

  • I like the lights, the robots looks professional yet strangely detached or should I say mindless, they give the sense of a centreless community.

  • The future is going to be amazing. If we don't blow ourselves up by then of course.

  • the robots are coming for us!!! BETTER HIDE YO KIDS, HIDE YO WIFE!!!

  • so efficient and fucking smart. couldn't you make it simpler?

  • robot firemen who can locate the source of the flames and extinguish the fire from the base without having to saturate the entire property with water

  • just grab the book!

  • Okay, i think it's safe to say we're all pretty screwed....

  • overcomlicted why canno the I-bot have a hand?

  • That's better NS (not the (OVERDONE)-robots-part -- but, the cooperative programming/effort of different robots-part) in a comprehensive vid. Kudos.

    Thx

  • Santa please

  • you think they're cute now, wait until they start retrieving YOU

  • that was fucking awsome

  • we are the daleks!

  • ohh goddd..... two minutes in.... please, please just get the book.

  • Wow. That was incredible. I think I peed myself a bit.

  • Awesome! Cooperative robots of different kinds, cool!

  • R.O.B

  • All your base are belong to us

  • @paulwarelis no sur, all your books are belong to us

  • They Now have our powerfull stored intellegance, WHY, WHYMUST THEY STEAL THE DRAGON BALL!

  • Please stop the Madness This is how Skynet starts and Cylons and Cybermen !!!!!

  • both great and scary !!…

  • dear santa...

  • this is sick haha

  • HAHAHAHA, It's so complicated it's hilarious

  • Dragonball!!!

  • I can make this from Lego!

  • @Examinator91 If you can actually make cooperating robots in lego, Id love to see a vid of it :)

  • ok so the thing climbs up the thing instead of pullig its sellf up the string with the built in motor

  • When the robots got hold of the book series "I, robot" something weird will happen.

  • yayayayay dragon ball

  • Finally, a good video!

  • WE NOW HAVE YOUR DRAGON BALL MANGA >:

  • Or you could get up off your lazy fat butt & get up and go get the book yourself & have saved $7,233.00 :)

  • Wrong book

  • I coulda got that book in half the time with way fewer robots.

  • this takes ages, I'll just get the book myself

  • Did... did it just fetch a volume of Dragonball?

  • How automated is this? I'll be reading the article in a moment, but these would be a lot more impressive if they were self-controlled, and not just fancy RC cars.

  • This could be used in disaster zones to find injured books under rubble.

  • @AmusingYeti lol

  • The foot bots are more like wheel bots

  • @GrimSoul66 wheels are robot feet

  • @GrimSoul66 tell that to Astro!

  • i obey to my new robot masters

  • All your books are belong to us

  • @unlucky13tattoo that comment made my day ^^

  • One day all humans will be gone and earth will be a very strange planet where robots rearange books all day in a slowpaced but well lightened manner. Aliens will be surprised and study it for centuries but never found out why and whatfor.

  • Comment removed

  • @kukelz or maybe we'll stupidly make robots to kill our enemies, resulting in our subsequent death.

Then those robots will become a menace in the universe.

How stupid we are, eh? ;D

  • @kukelz That sounds very Wall-E to me.

  • lol wow

  • 20 years time they will dominate US !

  • Is it just me or are we going to be hearing icecream-truck-esque music when the world is invaded by robots?

  • We're doomed!

  • wow, I didn't know when switching LEDs off, they made noise

  • All your books are belong to us!

  • I for one welcome our swarming robotic overlords.

  • Pretty slow and primitive. You would think once the robots have vision on the road to the books they could make it there without the help of the other robots. Why do the other robots have to line up

  • Comment removed

  • Ta-dah!

  • OH MY GOSH THIS IS SOOO CUTE!!

  • imagine some like this in mars.

  • All your books are belong to us!

  • or you can just go in and take the book lol jkkk

  • mindblowing

  • Robots r gunna kill us one day .

  • MUST ACQUIRE BOOK CONTAINING SECRET OF HUMAN ANNIHILATION

  • BRACE YOURSELVES, THE APOCALYPSE HAS BEGUN!

  • Quicker to just get the book yourself? This must be for fat people.

  • Quando um #Nerd resolve pegar um /#Livro na prateleira... Ele pega assim! #WOW

  • why call it a footbothandbot? i'd call it megazord

  • Sweet, how much to clean my house?

  • Thats cool, skynet here we go.

  • Comment removed

  • this is cute, epic, and kinda freaky :)

  • 1 step closer for robots to take over the world!111111!!!!!1!

  • Now that we have your book, your knowledge is ours! Puny humans!

  • @HeatherMeadow Unfortunaly, the book they got is from Akira Toriyama, so they can now learn from Dragon Ball. We are safe......for now. If someone teaches this lil robots to watch TV, they'll become stupid and lazy robots LOL

  • The most amazing thing ive seen all day

  • Wow....a new scientist vid that’s longer then 30 seconds and has some narration!

I'm impressed, keep up the good work.

  • ROBOT LIBRARIANS!!! NOOOOOOOOO!

  • EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE!!!

  • I for one,Welcome our new robot overlords.

  • seems like a lot of work to get a book

  • @richhaddon Only because this is still in its infancy, and that the tasks we do all day, and consider so easy, are actually quite complicated and require a lot, but we don't notice because it's not consciously done. Given time, and more hand entities actually doing something and not just being redundant fail-safes, the speed of the system will increase.

  • complicated.... why just not make one robot what can do all those things by it self

  • Or some guy can just get his lazy ass up off the chair and grab the book, lol.

  • Nothing can keep these robots away from their Dragonball.

  • so complicated...

  • LOL gotta love all the red necks that get scared by robots, btw did you noticed that Manga was Dragon Ball Nice choice!

  • why be afrade of this? you would be shuting out posibilitys of grate things.. robots that kill humans? well its maker must be angry at you just like a gun it kills people becouse its operator want that persan dead.. robots only do what they are told to do and only in steps if it skips one they do not know how to counter for the mistake and fallow another step inplaced. but they can not plan for the unexpected.. why not make these have more than one job?

  • @MrStemkilla they are programmed to learn from the environment.

they can also learn to do what is best for them.

they might kill humans one day, when they i'll think they dont need us, or when we threat them.

but it still not gonna happen, because they will need us for a long time.

  • @omri9325 well rite now they still have truble doing simple stuff and need somone to tell them exsactly what to do and when. but by learn is not what you think they are programed to act a sertan way until they get a signal or a sencor that tells them to act another way until they can get to a check point where they are told to do or act another way. eather way it cant make a disision to go bat shit crazy on us it is told to do something and it will obay where it has no revenge or any ideas

  • @omri9325 and they also dont have brains to think of greed or any other emotion or thought there "brain" is a computer that tells them "when you reach this obstical turn left" or "if you reach this door and it is closed open it what at that point it dose then it continues on with its original order. this is what people mean by learn from the environment.. but if its not told how to open the door yet it faces the problem it will stop unable to make a disishion on its own

  • @MrStemkilla take a look in neuron network programming.

we can now make bot and robots that actualy learn.

or using evolutionary alogrithems to look for the bots who make this tasks best.

  • @omri9325 "they can also learn to do what is best for them."

That's a tricky topic, because currently they can't, not really. But even in the future, it's not necessarily true. If you have a robot which is designed to be a butler, then it makes sense to give it the ability to "learn" to become better at what it is designed to do, be a butler. This doesn't mean it'll learn how to fire a gun or could crush your spine.

  • @MrStemkilla what if the robot was told to think for itself?

  • @BullShitThat robotics is not that simple. you can not make a robot brain.. its like asking your computer to turn on a light when it wants to. it will only do it if you say it can do it and its timeing is eather a random timeing or when you say it can happen for as long as you say.. it dose not have a free mind it runs chaines of programs somone made for it to do when he says to or when a program he made told them to eather way he starts the proses and ends it as well

  • @MrStemkilla you miss the point, what if I made chains of programs that can mimic free will? In the future we will have the tech and the know how to make AI s that can do this very thing. It's maker does not need to be angry or have any hate issues against humanity. All they need is to give the robot the capacity to do so when it feels like it, and it will eventually happen.

You speak as if there is no such thing as an infinite program, the program doesn't need an end, its called a loop.

  • @BullShitThat then its maker would have to program it to have the abbility to kill and that ability needs to be trigerd by something becouse the action of harming anything would be at the end of a psasific program but in that program it must start with a spasific human action or order.. robots do not skip steps if they do they can not function. and its keys to start programs are spasific and conditions need to meat b4 it acts

  • @BullShitThat why would we give them free will they are machines tools that have absolutly no feelings take only whare and tare but do not get tired and will work in any conditions where humans can not. i know what your thinking but we freed slaves becouse they had feelings and they were human not animal and living. robots are not any of thos things

  • @MrStemkilla if every human thought the way you did about machines we would be fine, unfortunately thats not the case. "why would we give them free will"? why do humans do half the stupid things that we do?... If we have the option and the power to do so, it will eventually happen. That is human nature... its never the machines that worry me, but the mentally of the people who have them in their hands.

  • @BullShitThat be more worried about others giving them vireses that are programed from the start to do no good.. its going to be a long time b4 we give a public robot any type or wepon but wen we do somon will make that robot bad not with free will but with a vary vary bad program in the form of a virious. but then agen we will never give them a better wepon than what we can get.. but it will start as sabotog of robot arms in factorys for compitition advantige of another company

  • @MrStemkilla but robots are also more suseptible to surtan things we can easily make.. lets say whe have these advanced robots but they will still be no mach to a magnetron out of an every day microwave. thos will easily distoy its electronics and distrupt its comunication and any kind of function. but besideds all the things magnatrons can do to us it will be nowhere near what it will do to robots.. you can also easily sheald yourself from its rays this is why they r evrywhere

  • Misleading title.

  • It's only scary because of the music.

  • Swarmanoid, reading literature like a boss.

  • THIS IS SO COOL! XD

  • Wow, that was awesome.. When can we all get one?

  • This could be used in disaster areas to sustain the book supply.

  • Great system ;-) one more step to a thinking machine. Regards and have a skilful time. Pinge

  • dear santa....

  • i want to know how the grappling hook works?!

  • Ooooh shit, this is fking awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, i wish these were out as toys xD

  • Not only are the robots awesome and their swarm system, but they are looking for a Dragon Ball book. Pure awesome.

  • If you shoot a scout drone the area will be swarmed shortly probably. Not recommended, unless you have a big bomb and want to take a large amount with you to hell.

  • one of those things visited me last night... I'm sure of it.

  • I would like to welcome our robotic overlords

  • booooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • We've had loads of video on this concept of AI and they get thumbs down and criticism but with flashing lights and a movie look it's a hit with the gallery *rolls eyes*

  • @sausage4mash It as a The HitchhikersGuide to the Galaxy feel to it. Need I say more?

  • @Maracachucho Nah. If it was a Douglas Adams creation, it would have a section about the importance of pickled haddock in economics or something. He was crazy that way.

  • @sausage4mash Cmon! Everybody loves colorful leds!

  • Rescue missions? Save ALL the books!

  • I can easily see Pixar making a movie about this

  • Sky net 38% complete

  • The daleks are coming!

  • Holy fucking awesome

  • I'm not usually impressed by robotics. But WOW. That's amazing.

  • Exterminate ! Exterminate !

  • amazing

  • What's that? Alfucking Hitchcock?

  • I guess August 29, 1997 was a little off, but only by about 15 years...

  • that must have cost a lot just to get that one book

  • I want some! D:

  • best part 2:06

  • @ByBleeker oh, yeah!

  • the hand bot's connected to the.... foot bot.

the foot bot's connected to the.... eye bot.

the eye bot's connected to the.... ceiling....

    wtf is this?

  • TARGET LOCATED. DEPLOY ASSASSINBOT.

  • Awesome until you realize you're the "book".

  • I can't help but wonder if there's something about the academic robotics research community that instills a tendency to make all robots mind-numbingly slow.

Look, I have RC cars, and although I don't have all the PLCs and whatever, I can string a small book to it and have it out of the room in 2 seconds flat.

  • @zassounotsukushi

Time velocity and motion is all a matter of perception. Compared to the life of a planet your flash of an existence is meaningless. It's the beginning of a process. First the ability than efficiency.

  • @zassounotsukushi "Look, I have RC cars, and although I don't have all the PLCs and whatever, I can string a small book to it and have it out of the room in 2 seconds flat."

That RC also isn't trying to search its surroundings for a target, or trying to drive itself, and while there are automated systems that could drive the RC quickly, the research isn't about speed so other aspects are ignored until they are needed.

  • Skynet 0.01

  • Oceans 1000

  • we are so fuked

  • All that for a book???

Glad I dont need CPR from them....

  • As soon as they can make sandwiches women will be completely redundant.

  • The people saying and thinking along the lines of: "Get the book yourself".. The book was just an example! The video was trying to showcase the robots' communication and sychronisation, not how they've made a breakthrough in getting books from shelves.
